The Star Citizen Thread v5

Hmm, I wonder where some of the most prominent and vocal backers of Chris Roberts and CIG and Star Citizen are right now?

I mean, CitCon happened and Chris Roberts just outright OWNED the gaming industry with the revolutionary reveals of Squadron 42 and Star Citizen he showed yesterday, and how all of this was going to be out before the end of the year, and is playable already and after that... I was SURE they would be on here to tell us how wrong we were in ever doubting Roberts' "Vision" and that we should all be sorry for ever speaking ill of this videogaming Titan.

Remarkable the stunning silence there has been since last night....

They are busy here: http://massivelyop.com/2016/10/10/star-citizen-citizencon-recap-and-squadron-42-delay/
and here: http://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/456005/sq42-to-be-released-later-this-year/p5
and here: http://www.pcgamer.com/star-citizens-squadron-42-campaign-wont-release-this-year/
and here: http://kotaku.com/star-citizen-singleplayer-campaign-delayed-1787602902

Their main approach continue to make lame statements that they are smarter than everyone else, special, in a special mission, doing something different for the best, etc... (remember that video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4oEYQhtsYw)
and everyone else does not understand development and/or is an impatient console child.

As they have, naturally, more resolve to keep going and repeating themselves and talking each other about how they are right than anyone that is sick of all this and prefer to stay away, that sounds like the "majority" of the backers are ok with everything was presented or said, due the number of positive comments "shutting up" the negative ones. And they of course, also will bomb the negative ones with flags so the moderators of the places ban the disappointed backers and make their feedback to disappear from the internet forever (unless they have the resolve to continue, which, once again, it's rare).

That's pretty much what they try to achieve with their comments and have been pretty much "successful" online during all these years. Notice, that somehow, they rarely are banned from any place, because apparently, there is this culture where if you are defending the subject, you are allowed to offend everyone and get a free pass, but if you are in the side of the criticism, you are much more restricted and have to be a lot more careful in what you say, to do not be banned and making your feedback to disappear.

They, of course, think that are doing a good service for the game, project, and never realized how tiny and tiny their community is becoming and how the rest of the world, in reality, is "hating" more and more Star Citizen (yeah, they don't hate it of course, but just felt deceived, conned, disappointed, but they will say that its hate anyway).

They are just giving us time to recover from the earth-shattering revelations of just how fantastic the BDSSE really is, and how we missed out by not funding to higher levels, and they are far too busy hauling sandwormies around the 'Verse as cargo in their new Polaris ships to pay attention to us.

But there's 20 hours of mocap (blimey) and an 1100 page script (double blimey) in the can!

I can't wait*.

* That was sarcasm.

Game will be DVD box set only (42 discs) In 42 different collector editions and 1 Platinum Founders Commando edition complete with Sandworm draught excluder. *

* That was sarcasm to.

So in other words, CIG has ordered the reputation management company handling their PR to swam the threads on gaming press forums because even THEY know that yesterday's presentation was easily the WORST one they have done at any event since this whole thing started in 2011 (NOT 2013 as they tried to imply during that hour long powerpoint part of the presentation!).

Considering most of the responses from the audience (who all paid to be part of this so are likely fully supportive of CIG's efforts) during the actual demo showing were lukewarm at best, Chris and Co are probably wondering what they can do to stave off the increasingly sceptical press core about what is yet another delay to SQ42.

I was hoping to find out how the procedural generation of landscapes was going to be done but, as I feared it was identical tiles dropped on a heightmap.

(sorry for low quality but I got it from the stream)

As you can see all the pillars of rock are identical - until the are manually moved by an artist. Imagine doing that for a planet full of assets.

Anyone who says they have not seen this in any game clearly need a reality check, I bet the use World Creator or similar to create the map areas.
They do not have any special tech to make this, it's all far far from being ready for anything stabile.

What they showed, if in game at some point it will look good, however it is not revolutionary at all, but they are claiming that, and that is a lie.

David Swofford is a very competent man. He has been responsible to keep people delusional, hoping and even discussing a game project, which is nothing more than a marketing scheme, that should be shut down years ago. He even managed people, in general, from press to gamers, to think that is absurd to call the Star Citizen project just an excuse for a scam and who make such claims should be labeled as "crazy" and "radical" (even with so many proof, in front of everyone who pays attention).

That is, truly, an impressive achievement. Credits were credits are due.

And I am sure that he is a man with the feet in the ground too. He is also impressed that was able to make the thing survive until now.

Overall Internet response is meh, with some people who doesn't follow news hyping worm. No one boosts gameplay or anything really.

This is start of downfall. Will get ugly very very fast.

Edit: wow, some of lesser known media still sucking up to CR and SC ilk. This is pathetic on so many levels.

Talked w/ Erin Roberts at the Con, he said it was animations for different things, such as repairing and the like. It would not have looked as fluid as it was needed to be. Literally EVERYTHING else was finished. They want to have that one shot to show off SQ42 in its top condition. Hope I am paraphrasing everything correctly. I’ll be glad to wait for the finished product.
What a nonsense. So journalist just repeats what CR said. No skepticism or nothing at all. Nice chap Chris. He won't lie, won't he.

Sickening.

Actually CR changed the tone a little bit, repeatedly saying stuff like "our goal as always is to make it as good or even better than everything else out there.". CIG is managing expectations very well IMHO, going from "it'll have loads of stuff in 2014, all of it way better than everything else!" to "it will have some stuff, hopefully as good as other games, as some point in the future."

Just imagine SC releasing in 2020 on cryengine 3.x. The advantage ofcourse is that you'll probably be able to run it on your phone by then. :D

To be honest, the Cobra Engine is not ready for the atmo planets yet, I could be wrong though but we haven't seen the technical level reached ATM.

I don't know how to make a planet, however I can make some pretty large maps in World Creator that look pretty nice. The big challenge must be to stitch it all together and make a believable weather system run independently on each planet. then add water and what not, I guess that is where the true magic comes in, and need some really talented coders.

I love how the usual Star Citizen fans (yes, it's pretty much all the same since 2013 going through all websites to talk about Star Citizen) consider themselves (RSI, Star Citizen) like champions of the crowdfunding, like the own meaning of crowdfunding itself, and then, if you criticize whatever happens with Star Citizen, a bad decision, some worker that shouldn't be hired because is not the right person for the job, a deceptive claim in their advertising, a unfair consumer approach, whatever, means that you hate crowdfunding.

Star Citizen is just a project (trying to be built under the basis of a marketing scam, and that obviously, won't work in the medium/long term). It's not the "meaning" of crowdfunding or how crowdfunding should be or is. Even Roberts make claims, that "crowdfunding is this or that" defining his actions to what crowdfunding "is". Nope. It's just his approach to the crowdfunding, which is, in fact, a very bad one, considering that he is only burning many many people to never crowdfund anything else later.

They have been bragging all the way through 2015, and now its time to face the music, the fact is that they can't deliver the promised tech.
It will be good but that is it.

Just a couple jukes, like SM circa april 2015, which means no SQ42 demo during CitizenCon 2017, can't wait

Thats why i think we will have gasplanets sooner then atmospheric planets. If you get the weather done right their and the whole cloud thing aswell as the flying...you wont get fazed by anything after that.
