"Oh, its not just me - so DDoS confirmed!"

Who is that idiot? Twitch would have to go down for it to be a DDoS. I hope that was sarcastic. I hope that person was kidding. I REALLY hope they were kidding. Especially with the "transparency" and "honesty" bit at the end.

Oh wait - that's a person on Twitch that is most likely getting paid (at some point, maybe... ding dong hopes so at least but have to sell virtual ships that don't even exist in VIRTUAL FORM TWO YEARS LATER for that to happen) for this.

This has been one of the worst development processes of a game I have seen... except for Duke Nukem Forever/Daikatana and games of that nature.

Freelancer was saved by an evil publisher... after that evil publisher gave him several million to build it in the first place... and they booted him to the curb to actually get a game out in under a decade - not to mention how many more tens of millions CRobbers would have run up since his development strategy is to announce a game, pitch the game, market the game, ??????, ???????, ??????????????????????????, and then he runs out of money and puts out a MVP or someone else builds the game for him after kicking him to the curb.

Here we go for round 3, will this be it? Of course not, it's already gone down the same path as his previous games that he over promised, scope creeped, and hasn't a clue what he's doing.

As per the Daikatana ads - Chris Roberts is going to make you his bit.. sucker/rube/mark/whale/etc.

I've heard people cry DDoS when their frames drop. Seriously.

I'm still finding it difficult to believe that Chris Roberts would blow almost half his funding on motion capture. Do these figures make any sense at all? Has anyone got details for anything remotely similar which might indicate whether it is even possible?

I'll ask an old school friend, he works in Hollywood on visual effects (non tech) but he can maybe find out for me.

According to SA/Derek sources situation is dire - SQ42 Ep 1 is broken, they are trying to salvage it, they have actually have ran out of money, and were forced to take 50M loan to keep lights on. Every planned update - 2.6 and 3.0 - is at broken state at this point. They are shifting artist resources to East/Central Europe (yaaay), for decreasing costs, lots of devs are on chopping block.

I never expected to say this - but we will soon witness meltdown of "biggest KS project ever".
I don't believe it. ;)

How is an Atmospheric planet suppose to effect the gameplay?

Flight - I'd like to see smaller ships like the Sidewinder (or perhaps the F63 Condor) deploy aerofoils for atmospheric fight and behave like an aircraft, suffer from effects like wind and turbulence - but the upside would be better maneuverablility compared to a ship without aerofoils.

A lot of that depends on wether the Samdwormies are modelleled on a viscoelastic string :)

I know it's fiction, but what do those sandworms actually eat to get that big and stay alive in the desert? It must take a vast amout of energy to grow that size and just move around. All seems rather too implausible.

Ooh! Ooh! And on the T9!

What do giant sandworms eat?

The energy requirements for something that size would be astronomical. and could it support it's own weight given that the gravity appears earth like?

I don't reckon we'll be seeing anything like that in elite unless they've thought it through a bit more scientifically. (low G high oxygen worlds?, or sea dwellers?)

Ninja'd me - though I am many hours out of date catching up :D

It might be a bit early for such bold claims. I'm sceptical as to whether that is true.

I don't believe some part of it - more likely they needed loan on broken mocap animations to redo them. I don't think they are out of money - yet. I am inclined to believe that they have issues with pipeline, as 2.6, SM or SC Alpha 3.0 - is nowhere near pre-alpha testing stage.

It will be interesting nevertheless. Chris might decide to stop pretence and come out explaining situation. However longer they linger on not showing SQ42, harsher questions will be.

I am skeptical. But assuming worse case scenario - this looks the end. If CIG wiggles out of this situation - they will finish games, no doubt. This is their lowest point so far.

Why is it that Obsidan Ant's coverage of the video gets me hyped for SC and hopefully, but CIGs presentation just made me think this is doomed?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bvOTqolIYg

Same stuff, just how its presented. Perhaps because with CIG i don't have much faith and there seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors. Whereas OA simply talks about what is there, gives criticisms and kudos where due, and overall quite balanced, therefore trustworthy.

Perhaps CIG could learn something from him and tone down the hype and make it more objective.

There again, this might work for Brits but not for Yanks. I remember a story i was told from some german sales guys who went to the US and tried to sell their product. They went in with a very professional presentation highlighting the benefits of the product, which worked well in Europe, but in the US at the end was silence. No sales.

One of their US colleagues told them they had done it all wrong and they didn't understand the market and that he would do the next presentation.

US sales guy gets up on stage and basically starts cheering and hollering and starts bigging up the product, with little reference to actual specifications or what it was really capable of. Made tons of sales.

So, maybe CIG are doing it right for the US market. Hype hype hype, that bears little connection to reality, because it doesn't matter. The yanks will buy into the hype. Whereas us Europeans are a lot more distrustful of hype, a lot more skeptical, and want to see specifications and details.

Perhaps it would be interesting to see if there was any sort of correlation between how much people had spent against where they lived. I'd be willing to bet there is a much higher proportion of whales and backers in general in the US than other countries (adjusted for population differences).

They are marketing a dream, and dreams appeal to the American psyche, and i can even imagine, finished product or no finished product, some people have already got their money's worth in terms of utility (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/u/utility.asp) or will have by the time the game is either released or crashed and burned, whichever happens.

Problem is OA is most likely concentrating on stuff you see in trailer. Rest of internet concentrates on stuff behind the scenes. CitizenCon wasn't a success. It was very close to disaster. Something went wrong, and there are lot of - believable and less believable - speculations what exactly that is. It seems CIG now struggles to even do proper demonstrations they have scripted.

As for different markets having different strategies - sure, but also US sales people know when to stop. CIG obviously don't.

I can agree, about broken state of v2.6 and S42, since if they had working versions - we had actual release dates now...

I do not believe about money, since money is still incoming

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals

Of course if those numbers are correct...

But there is BIG but -> since they have 5 studios and 363 employees, probably their monthly expenses are at least 3m $ per month...
so go figure out..maybe they are low on cash and will go bankrupt in 2017...if "Alfa whales" will not push them thought...

CR needs to hire Obsidan for Europe marketing team ;)
But I guess, most money is coming for US...so focus is US market...

What's the average monthly salary of a middle dev in places like Austin and Manchester? Anyone know? (And of course, its only going to give a very rough estimate of salaries, not even covering other operational expenses. I seem to recall one CFO stating (depending on the business of course) that staff salaries only counted for about 1/3 of monthly expenditure.
