The Star Citizen Thread v5

We should stick to trying to get Asp onto Eurovision in a knitted jumper with an 80's man perm.

Whenever the thread veers away from discussing Star Citizen it's a much more pleasant place. We should try to avoid mentioning it at all.

I vote for more Hawkwind, less Polaris.

SC could use some new material as well! End of the year end of the year next show next livestream blah blah excuse-ity blah blah.

We should, above all, tone tone the derision a notch. That's right ASP Explorer? ;)

That's the exact same attitude and behaviour you get from Star Citizen white knights whenever they feel Star Citizen "has shown them". Just pointing out that the oh-so impressive Planet tech "2.0" demo (they love incrementing those pre-alpha prototype numbers for no reason, don't they? :p ) fell short in demonstrated gameplay compared to any high profile FPS in the last decade should be suffient, no?

Any news filtering out about changes to the Flight Model in 2.5.x? Do you think they will finally be able to generate some feeling of mass for take off and landing at the very least? I did see something recently where it was stated that some ships are deliberately yaw focused and others pitch focused, to stop combat being cookie cutter.

I'd said it in an earlier post but his posting recently on twitter all indicated that he had significant and worthy things to report in his blog. Instead he releases a rant about the crapness of the citCON presentation which is pretty much common news to anyone with any connection or interest in SC. There was nothing new there but a rehash of much of the old stuff alongside this report on the citCON event.

I think he got a bit shirty with me jokingly suggesting that in his blog he was like Roberts....promise much deliver little. :) it was a joke Derek!

In all seriousness though he needs new material and if he's going intimate this in his prior communications on twitter then he ought to follow up with it. Maybe it's a "legal" thing and he couldn't print or something.

He indicated his latest blog was a response made to Citcon and not what he was hinting at before. It was clearly indicated he's still working on the content of the aforementioned (ones you are holding him accountable to) blogs.

Working on two others apparently while the citcon one was an impromptu 3rd given citcon.

That's how I understood it anyway.

I wonder how quickly they will push the SQ42 gameplay...the longer it falls beyond cit con the worse it looks as even some of their most loyal are starting to question things.

Once again partly due to CR hyping what is going to be shown when in reality that demo was far from being in a public release state.

I mean not even a frame grab of any action from 42..nothing.

Just keep CR away from any and all love gameplay demos and make sure a Hotas intended for use is plugged in ;)

I'm a little concerned that the "mouse brigade" section of the avocados may spoil things for those of us who like Joystick/HOTAS.
I recall getting blasted for criticising the FM when 0.8 dropped (I just didn't get it did I? And, it's just a pre-Alpha), and being laughed at for using a HOTAS (paying out £200, when a £5 mouse is better).
Don't start me off on the Freelancer-style manual gimbal aim....
Anyway, I have been left with the impression ever since, that the space flight portion of the game will always pander too heavily towards mousers wanting a casual experience.
We shall see.....

Hmm If its true that they are moving to the Czech Republic I can understand why, an programmer make a round $1.600,00 USD per month
there are several companies there already operating and it could be a way to refactor the whole thing again.

The EU also have some TAX deduction programs there so again from a business point of view it make sense. However that is NOT what they told the backers back in 2012. They would create job in the US, and they lied again, the constant shuffling around with offices are really a big red flag is you ask me.

maybe it is how they like to do their dodgy business, but it is simply too obvious.

Or in nutshell nostalgia driven Freelancer player base. Which is totally fine, as they are most likely majority of gamers wanting SC to happen.

Basically what CIG/CR tells to public and what's happening in reality are two different things. They are not trustworthy. That's short and long of it.

I wondered why my last reply to him this morning dissappeared off the forum - I guessed some moderation had happened so just left it at that.

Ninjas at work, they work best at nights :D

Yeah, tell me about it, Band of Robbers that is what they are.

If the story of the devs ordering Scorpios is correct, they will have to put in better support for controllers. So maybe your HOTAS will not be wasted.
ED is better anyway, and is an actual game. Use it for that.:D

Whatever... Just look at the last showcases: flying ship is low priority, in SC you'll first be a Citizen walking and shooting at things. Hell, even Space is not there.

Space sim crowd is spent and they have largely moved away from SC towards ED and other space games. Not enough difference for CR to bank on. There's good reason why Space Marine exists - it's sole goal was to attract FPS crowd and their money too.

Such method of money gathering - especially when you have zero proof to follow with it - is disgusting to be honest.

Are they closing any of existing studios (in UK due Brexit?!) or opening just additional one in Czech Republic ?

Currently if you Google Star Citizen Brno the only hit of any relevance you get is this thread. So my feeling for now, is it has to sit firmly in the unsubstantiated rumour filing cabinet.

I bought it for ED (it's a Warthog BTW), and I use it joyfully on other space/flight games as well, but I struggle to enjoy flying around in Arena Commander (any mode) with it, and I've tried the mouse - it just don't seem right using the mouse, somehow it's a shallow experience - which is odd, because I don't mind using the mouse in FreeSpace2 - strange, but there it is.

It is reported by multiple trusted (relatively) trusted sources from SA thread. No one has confirmed this though, and I don't expect it to happen any time soon (considering CIG wanting to contain fallout already from CitizenCon).

It's also that CryEngine has always been designed for KB + M. All games developed on CE are FPS shooters using KB+M. MechWarrior Online uses CryEngine 3 and everyone there says KB+M is the way to go, don't bother with HOTAS. I tried it with HOTAS and it was okay but clunky to use. So I think this is putting it on a path to be KB+M - not to mention all focus recently has been on "space legs" side of thing with a carefully done space to atmo transition that is questionable as to how it was achieved.

Pretty much KB+M is the CryEngine way, or an XBox controller I guess since that is what CR used in the holiday livestream where he could barely play his own game.

I quite like Freelancer (I even built an "Elite" mod for it), though the combat side of things is a bit shallow, it do find it fun to play. The mousey gimbal thing is something I think should be left in that era, or for 3PV space combat games, not modern FPV space combat.

Unsubstantiated rumour, I honestly can't believe they would relocate an office to Czech Republic. Why not just go the whole hog and move to India?

Or use Capita, like every level of infrastructure in the UK? Hah
