What evidence is that the Thargoids are from the LMC?
None. "Presumed to be".
On the Alien site:

Just got two data types from one scan, so I would say it is safe to rule out any correlation between alpha/gamma and activation order etc.

Omg this thread is so broken! Where can I get a refund!?
Seriously though, why put Gamma at the end. Also "Scane".
Maintaining this thread has to be a full time job. [big grin][up]
Quick Question: Are people using Mobius or some sort of Cannon private group to visit the ruins?
I always play in open and went to the ruins last night.
Was enjoying chatting to all the other commanders until someone in a cutter blew up all our parked ships.
Fair enough, that's open, and I'm loathe to leave it for any reason but I'd actually quite like to have a look at the ruins.

Edit: The monoliths/pillars do not match up to stars in either of these shots
4C could be the third coordinate. In hexadecimal 4C = 76
Could be the designation of a planet "blah sector a2-12 4 c" if the messages that haven't been decoded yet provide a system name.

Where did this idea come from, lore or speculation?

It's pure nonsense. As far as I know the LMC has never been mentioned once in Elite lore. It has never figured on Galnet either.
The LMC is just a view.

Thoughts
It was suggested that frontier add barnacles / meta alloys to jaques and other nebula in deep space, as of yet it hasnt happened, some opportunity lost on that one

My theory is this is a very large landing pad of sorts.
The outer wall buttresses have an internal latch / locking mechanism very similar to a clamp that something would slide in and be locked down
The triangles dotted around with the metal roadways are a sort of Scart style 'male' input that when whatever it is lands connects and uploads 'whatever'.
Hey it's a wild theory but the buttresses dotted about both on the wall and internally look like large clamps with a hinged internal part.
I also doubt the site will yield anything further other than being a link to something else. What we have physically found is it!
