The Star Citizen Thread v5

I still can't get over how an entire site was created for just one Star Citizen article, with the rest consisting of blatantly and unquestionably plagiarized articles added just to give said site a thin veneer of legitimacy.

According to the site creator, the StarCitizen article wasn't the reason the site was created.

You can ignore that and just accuse him of it, of course.

Look at all those Youtube videos who parade SC tech demos with "amazing new gameplay" etc. in description.LOL.

..or the endless parade of "new Thargoid encounter!" videos on Youtube, or so many threads on it that the mods spent all weekend closing duplicates.

It's just people excited about their hobby, interest, or whatever. Welcome to Youtube.

Accepting his explanation would be an accusation too. Copyright infringement is dealt with pretty harshly these days…

While I think EverQuest Next and SC aren't easily comparable, I am just astonished by reaction towards this poke by SA. In ironic twist of fate I am saddened by failure of EQN, because I liked all ideas in WoW setting and I think that would make great game I could play. They overreached and forgot how to start small. That IS comparable to CIG and SC though.

Man, you wouldn't know what people do for SEO these days. It is all about gaming Internet. And people are that stupid sometimes to fall into those traps.

Look at all those Youtube videos who parade SC tech demos with "amazing new gameplay" etc. in description.LOL.

So much Hate.
Is it really bothering you that much that people like Star Citizen ?
Do you know how many Videos and other Stuff we got going on the Alien Encounter in Elite Dangerous which is nothing but a Cutscene Video so far ? :)

Why not simply accept that Star Citizen is there and will stay there :p

That is kind of the problem. SC is there, right at the bottom of the plopsbucket, and will stay there - until GIC get their act together and actually deliver meaningful and tangible advances to the product. They have had years to get their act together.

Yes, the Thargoid encounter being something that actually happens IN ED, while those videos of the tech demos of Star Citizen purporting to be "in-game", are patently not the case.

I'm sure you can discern the difference between those two examples.

Also just being there - how it changes criticism of it? Not sure I understand.

Do Sunleader really thinks we just want SC to be gone? Heh.

According to the author's (short) Reddit history, he is an entrepreneur looking at startups.
So he's climbing on board the SC lulzwagon and trying to make a quick buck.

From whom, I wonder. What financial gain can he possibly get from this?

I think certain people don't quite see beyond the X vs Y point of view. I certainly want to see SC released and be successful - a lot of people have put a lot of hard work and effort into it, and a lot of people have paid lots of money towards it. What I personally find most distressing about the whole thing is that whenever a certain level of advancement is made, it seems that Genuine Roberts immediately stomps all over it because it doesn't fit his vision - and everything goes back into the pot to be refactored. Again, and again, and again, and again....

Errr no thorn-. Those videos are obviously click-bity, suggesting already existing, already playable game - BACK ME BACK ME - while those are just tech demos. Ethusiastic about SC? I would take honest to Earth, funny 2.6 videos over such trash any day. But guess what, those don't attract that much green.

In opposition, I can try to find UA in ED, pack it and got visit of our new Thargoid overlords. And it beats a [censored] of anything I have seen in SC tech demos, including sand worm (because I understand they are just tech demos...finished SC/SQ42 might have their own WOA moments, despite what I might think of their development).

There are people who just play SEO game and this is just another angle for them.

I am even getting sick to call it a "business model", but hey, people think it is even more legit job than make funny/informative YouTube videos.

It is just a person exploiting cult. Which really doesn't surprise me at all because grey market are full of those.

SC article is the only one that wasn't plagiarized, of course it was the reason the site was created.

…on a site that's 5 days old and has already gathered a five-digit following; where the articles are plagiarised from news.au.com; where the same IP holds the single author's personal marketing page (which he immediately took down when this was revealed); and where for the longest time, the SC story topped “Most commented” with zero comments.

Nice SEO:ing there, CIG. Is this a relative of Sandi or something? :D

Yeah, they've been doing this. I wrote about several similar incidents before

odd how the original article is by Nick Burke, who now has no articles on the site, and the new article and all the other "articles" pulled from http://www.dailymail.co.uk among others are "by" Andrew Maher

That's HIM in the picture! https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrewmaherbne

I can see no reason why someone who stands to profit and benefit from lying would lie. You can ignore that, of course.

I expect he makes enough from advertising on the site to write what he truly feels, and thus retain his journalistic integrity.

Well that's weird...

CIG are really doing their best to alienate the early stage backers.

It's strange how arrogant the GIG people seem to be sometimes. It's almost as though there's someone in the company deliberately sabotaging customer relations. It makes me feel indignant on behalf of that poor backer, especially when he's tarred and feathered by his fellow Redditors.

I suspect it's really just that CIG doesn't have much understanding about how to manage customers, not that they're being deliberately spiteful. They need to start acting a bit more like a multi-million dollar company if they want to be taken seriously.

Well I'm going to put my rarely-used 'defend CIG' hat on and say that
Why you do not look up the information yourself here you have the information spoonfed like a baby
kind of deserves to be deleted (and we don't know how he phrased the other messages).

Just because you're $8k in doesn't mean you get to be an at on a forum.

That's not to say CIG don't control the message, or do care about the early backers, but there's a third option here.

A scripted event, not a cutscene video. Pretty big difference.

Its more of an Custscene video.

I know its Technically different because its not an Video but an actual Animated Object.

But as the Pilot cant do anything except move his Camera around.
It pretty much ends up being an Cutscene Video rather than an Scripted Event this way.
