"Star Citizen will be the bethtest game in the whole wide universthe and if anyone says otherwisthe, my daddy saysth he will hit them" - Chris "Roberto" Roberts and his wife (2017).

Posts like this make me sad. Evolution is supposed to make us smarter in the long run.

But I guess by the time we've evoloved enough as a species, so that everyone realises this is , Star Citizen may be in beta.

You just don't understand species development.

that would be a shame..... receiving bad news (assuming its related to the VR info) sucks, but better to get it out there now rather than me install S42 in 12 months time don my rift and.............. nothing!.

BTW I like that despite working on (allegedly) the best looking space game out there, his twitter background is still Elite Dangerous. :) he should come back to the fold, there is lots more eye candy ED could do with ;)

Derek Smart tho.... (and no offence meant if reading this) I do not know why his beef is with CIG et al and neither do I want or need to know... but it is sad when a dev (who also seems pretty capable) seems to delight in the failures of others.... CIG / RSI (I do not know the difference) are not just 1 man or woman, there are a lot of people paying their bills off of Star Citizen and will be trying their absolute best to get the game out.

I know internally we all have these thoughts but no need to constantly rub it in imo... esp as a lot of us here (myself included) have money sunk into SC as well. I WANT SC to do well and bad news from their camp makes me disappointed, seeing others clearly loving any bad news makes it worse.

PS didn't FD do the same with a few of their staff? SJA springs to mind.

Yet, despite it not being about me, and you not knowing what my "beef" is, you still chose to render an opinion. About something you already admitted to knowing nothing about. Nice.

FYI. This thread is about Star Citizen. Not about Derek Smart. Get with the program.

Interesting to see whole threads in their own territory that get more doubtful than we are here, and it's no longer being leapt on by the hoard. Is 3.0 going to break SC?

The problem is that some of these guys don't even know what they're supposed to say, and what not to. Since most of the backers are patently clueless about gamedev, it's guys like us devs who tend to raise the Red flags. And so far, every single one of us devs, has been right. About all of it.

Back when Ali B posted that, and I tweeted about it. I wrote a short missive about the implications of what he had said.

Funny thing also is that I had Tweeted that once they got wind of my post, that some change would be forthcoming. And so it did. Except that because I had noted that Ali B (who is now apparently a contractor, not an employee) only had 2 posts on that account; he subsequently went back and edited it from his CIG account. Which, up to that point (according to our metrics), only had 22 posts. Go look at how many posts Ben (who, good, bad, or ugly, engages the community more than all the CIG devs combined) has.

I'm just going to remember that Derek said too that Ali B had left the company last year. It's funny that the "proof" is that Ali B posted with his account, and saying what he says xD.

Mindblowing logic

I didn't make it up out of thin air. It happened. And FYI, he, like a bunch of others who were employees, are either gone, or are now contractors. Which is probably why he had made the change of employment to reflect his own studio.

Get the facts right. It's not that hard.

This is what I wrote about the matter.

Ali B posted first with his personal account and later posted the same with his official account. I don't see how that(a mistake on which account you post from one different worker), guide anyone into the "Ben has been muzzled" story.

The only drama should come from what Ali B said, not from the desires or imagination of Derek.

What exactly did I "imagine"? That he made 2 posts from his personal account. Thought nothing of it. But as soon as I tweeted that he had only made 2 posts; hours later he goes back, edits it, posts an apology from his dev account - which up to that point only had 22 posts in the THREE years since he has been working on the project?

Are you serious, or just so far gone that even common sense and facts are a distant memory?

I've accused Derek of what? Because I have no source for what you claimed, talking about the "Ali B said that he left". While like with other people in the company he said that left and continue to work there.

So I made this up then?

Oh no, I criticized Derek because without any "proof" other than Ali B posting, says that Ben has been muzzled. Amongst other stuff. There is enough to criticize SC, CIG and others without using lies. Simple as that.
But I may be crazy...

Yet, for over FIVE days, you have FAILED to provide ANY proof or tangible evidence that I LIED. About anything.

I reported about Ali B changing his work status. He did. I reported it. It was a fact. Not a lie.

I called sources who claimed that he, like several others, were now contractors - not employees

I made an opinion that Ben, who seemed to have been MIA since our last dustup over his VR comments (before that it was LumberYard), was probably muzzled, and that Ali B (his boss) was now back posting again. It was a fact. Not a lie.

What exactly are you missing in all this?

3.0 doesn't exist. It never did; and I've been saying so since the slide was shown at CitizenCon 2016 That's the long and short of it.

They are now on 2.6.1 and then it will be 2.6.2. Which brings us up to end of Mar/Apr. The entire Q1/17.

To think that they are going to stop at 2.6.2, then jump right to 3.0, is hilarious ridiculous. There will be other 2.x patches after 2.6.2.

Not to mention the fact that, as they've done in the past, regardless of what they promised in 3.0, they can release any build as 3.0 if they wanted to.

And as you guys have seen from the Jan 2017 monthly report, they are so far off, it's not even funny.

Highlights:

- Oxygen modeling
- New "language" for backend development

They're nuts. That aside from the fact that it's all rubbish.

In LoD, right now, there is an oxygen meter that's monitored if you go under water. When you run out while under, you die. If you come up, it refills. Just like what happens if your jetpack runs out of energy; you fall to the ground.

And I have modeled oxygen in all my previous BC/UC games for the same reason, and it uses the same method. It works, and there is no need to reinvent the wheel or chase bull fidelity.

There is no reason for any oxygen modeling (which can use the same modeling they do for eva btw) like they're suggesting; let alone a new 'language' for any backend work. Of course, notice how they didn't even say what that is; other than give it a fancy name.

I think all of this is a ploy to justify the nonsensical development and costs. And these devs are just pulling a paycheck now, without asking any questions.

Just as I took one look at a Summer 2015 monthly update like this, then concluded that the project was , which prompted my first blog; this update is just another nail in that opinion coffin.

And we're still here, a full 18 months later, 350+ people, $142m+ and neither of the two promised games is anywhere near completion.

Anyone reading this latest update and thinking, "yeah these clowns are making a game", and didn't ask for a refund, deserves to lose their money.

Just as I said back in July 2015, there is no way this game - as pitched - gets made.

ps: have you seen the latest backer and funding analytics?

Derek, 3.0 is a work in progress, of course it doesn't exist. They have an ambition of it existing with a feature set consisting of a small progress towards what they are trying to achieve.

That said, the lead devs are sitting around in meetings (I'm not saying that word synonymous with the whole project) just pondering on how some features will work.

Not going to happen ever.

Other things are unpredictable he said ominously.

Actually I am confused about something, I remember Ben (the blue haired guy who hangs upside down from trees, plays XCOM Long War) did say that when Ali wasn't in the studio (Manchester) that he pretends to be the lead (edit : course he was joking). The guy puts in that he left and joined again on LinkIn, how is that an issue for Derek's honesty.

Anyway I'm on XCOM 2 Long War 2, I actually wish I hadn't started it now, but I think it is the greatest game made. Just takes too much time out of your life, you wake up and need to have revenge.

An just reading the monthly letter, they are still working on core systems. Honestly this must be the worse team of developers around.

At least one programmer is getting a chance to create a new programming language, apparently a dream for some programmers and I love to see people achieving their dream.

But apart from that, really, what is the point?.

An it seems they love repeating information, multiple times, how many times do we really need to be told they are lighting maps for a game that was due out last year?

Infinity Battlescape will be completed and out before this game is even in beta.

I very much doubt that he's writing a new "programming language". I have written a programming language from scratch. For AI. Like three decades ago when we didn't have all these nice toys today. When you have Lua, Python, C#, and you read that someone is developing a new programming language, all you can do is lol and keep on scrolling.

It's rubbish.

Nonsense!

There's going to be lulzillions of players in tiered instances, MegaOrgs having fleet battles with thousands of player-owned capital ships, with players at each gun turret or system control position, merch wings of fighters will swoop in to help the highest bidder, entire nations will devote themselves to farming mud, and of course mud will need to be mopped up in case it gets all over the Idris.

Starports will be vast and populated by people and interesting AI - who all have jobs and a set schedule to keep to, missions will be dynamic and non-repetitive, even system factions will constantly be in motion due to this "algorithm" thing.

Nobody wants to play in a empty and lifeless playground. That is why Genuine Roberts has had the foresight to DENSIFY the universe - 100 systems at launch would fragment the playerbase so putting everyone into ONE system is the only sensible thing to do. Think of all the exploring everyone could do together! Org could battle Org over the rights to Big Benny's franchises.

Or something.

And in every one of those lulzillions of players, tens of squijillions of oxygenated blood corpuscles will be faithfully programmed regardless of if you are there or not, because it's a PU after all.
And every player will experience 0.0001 FPS, and the Internet will overload and die.

And CRoberts will be blameless, apparently.

Hey Derek

Well the issue is for me is either are they are being the most unrealistic people possible or they are being purposefully unrealistic to keep the funding going. I had a bit of a blowout when they mentioned you could have wildlife on the planets??!!??

Frogs man.

EDIT : I did look at your Trump being illiterate link, I think there's a strong case there. Mind you, he could be dyslexic or just lazy and he's just winging it. I saw this film with Robert McNamara talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis, even with sensible people making decisions, a precession of events can go out of control. What chance have you or we got with this person?

The only way to respond is to add other stuff

  • You want to farm - play SC
  • You have run out of carrots - go to the store and play SC
  • You have broken your leg - go to the hospital and play SC
  • Your mother has been thrown in jail for nefarious activities - go play SC

My leg has been broken for 5 years irl. I'm waiting until I can get it fixed in SC! It hurts but it will be worth the wait! Immmerrrshun!

Star Citizen Handy Hints.....

For those of you worried that your commando may run out of oxygen in Star Citizen, here is a handy hint.

Map the i and o keys to make your commando breath. i for in o for out. Simples.

This feature is not in the game yet, but you may want to start practicing, as you will need to do this the entire time you are playing.

You're welcome.
