Like running in ship corridors while pulling 15g battle manœuvres ?
"quick, get to that turret" => splat => "is that soup my gunner ?" lol.
I guess in a universe with space-bending drives there is also the possibility for inertia-dampeners.

however I would make it like the turret in the SRV. You select a turret from a weapon overview panel and you see from that point of view.
all turrets are automatic, but you can change between turrets to get the manual sight up.
That sounds like intentional over-obfuscation for something that is pretty much elegantly solved by what they showed yestarday.
Hey, in a WW2 sim its pretty much expected that every turret has its own gunner and view. In todays crafts, it might be technically possible that there is one gun command position that remotely controls all turreted guns with camera images replacing the gun sights. In the 4th millenium? No idea. And Elite is not the simulation to elaborately simulate a fictional fire control system that it woul dhave to develop first. With the assumption that there's one turret control position, whatever they see on their holograms/get projected to their retina seems well represented by the external camera. It works and doesn't trip over itself at horse poo attempts of simulating an elaborately fictional fire command to chip away at hull and shield life bars.

The ommission of any external view has been an eyebrow-raiser in ED from the start. Even today's bloody cars have rear cameras and with autonomous driving being actively developed there'll be quiet a couple more cameras and sensors.
Honestly, threads like this make me lose my faith in humanity...
Please, let no-one complain about the views of immersions purists being overlooked or openly mocked on these forums again.
Anyone that desires to make such a post should come here and read the OP, for it will provide all the context necessary to understand why some here get so frustrated by those who will willfully throw common sense out of the window for the sake of their precious "immershun"....

This is not about immersion purists. This is about the FDEV pushing out of low quality season upgrades which has barely any content to compliment the new feature or the base game and its first person gameplay. Enjoy your 'non-immersion but easy to join multicrew ships and third person turrent', then get board in 10 mins and never use it again due to the lack of content to enjoy the feature with. Then just spend a minute or two to ponder how, if the same low quality and lack of forsight is applied to other upcoming seaons expansion packs this game will shape up in the future.
Elegantly solved by a frankly unimaginative 3rd person view which breaks away from the game's long history...
Well, my point is the solution demonstrated is very simplistic and not very well executed in my opinion, to me it make that game more arcady and not very appealing.

People wanting a gunner view on a FP space game to be FP makes you lose faith in humanity? And they, not you, lack common sense?

You're literally external to the ship with a vantage point of your choosing.
Good. because the game's long history is rooted in 1984 and that's best left where it belongs: 33 years in the past. Ever heard of KISS? "Keep it stupid and simple". It's usually considered a mark of good design. For once, I have to agree with Frontier's choices.
See above: KISS.
As for more arcadey... How much more arcadey than chipping down life bars do games get?
This word "literally". I do not think it means what you think it means.![]()

The 3rd person style doesn't flow with the game. The game is rooted in the cockpit. That is probably the one reason most backers paid for it and potentially why a majoriy went and bought it. One of the HUD or HDD views described would still be simple to operate, not be simmy but still provide some suspension of belief or immersion AND stiill be fun for young and old alike. Over simplifying the turret operation doesn't mean the game will suddenly sell more. As previously stated, the likes of the Battlefield games with great cockpit views sell millions. Players scrap with each other just to get into the choppers and tanks. Likewise the more simulation rooted ARMA games.
It won't work. You can't have a fixed FP view for turrets when they are dotted all over the ship, It's not like an SRV turret where it is one emplacement in one place, there could be 3 turrets spread a hundred metres apart! Only way it would work is a view external to the ship, disembodied from the CMDRs head.
It makes me loose a little faith in humanity that people so concerned with a FP view cannot visualise this in FP and how it would not work![]()
It's a very nice looking and full and complex game that will go on for very many years I hope.
But it is still a game, it is not called Spaceship Simulator.
