Engineers SDC Commences "Operation SpicyBois 2.0"

Yes don't really want to complain too hard about the exploits because people might well start arguing the 'crack train' which you did use passes the TOS test of a exploit, and reduced your time sinks.

This doesn't personally sit with me. I didn't know the exploit existed until its publication but since then I've been shown some rolls that would have a realistically inviable time sink to achieve legitimately.

Tell that to RNG.
My 2nd account's Conda has 65% HD booster (2nd one is 62%) and 15% resistance booster (2nd one is 13.4%). All of these were rolled with less than 10 tries, believe or not.
It also has a 54% FSD which I got at 4th roll.

Boosters are notoriously among the easiest, if not the easiest, modules to god roll.

However, I completely understand your point. But a single case of "I rolled a couple of modules quickly" is not even anecdotal evidence. You haven't proven what your idea of "god rolls" is in context, or that your rolls are indicative of an average:

Got a God roll shield for my iCutter on first attempt.

There's the funny thing about RNG. It is, well, random.

If the odds were 1 in 4,000 to achieve a given "god roll" (as an arbitrary figure) and every person took exactly 4,000 rolls to achieve said roll, it wouldn't be random now, would it?

So no, to be more clear, I am not saying that "without exploits you can never have a god module". But a ship full of them is another thing, and what many people perceive as "god" rolls is often comical in the face of a couple of the modules I've seen since. More beneficial secondaries covering the screen than primary stats by a decent margin.

Oh and I'll be honest: my idea of a "god rolled" shield was actually lacking when I wrote that. Small regen/broken regen boosts, excellent resistances, increased optimal mass and multiplier. And that...is not a "god roll" over what I've seen since. That a mod intended to simply increase resistances is now expected to make bi-weaves with the cap of an A-rated shield and even more vastly improved regen should at least raise a warning klaxon for engineering on the whole.

It does not conform to the balance passes to heat that were applied several months ago.
Don't you get it? You did not balance stuff. You F#####ng delete it from a game entirely! You killed a game mechanic! What balance are you talking about? We will have now 7-8 boosters mess with no actual care about heat. How is that better? In what world?

@Rinzler, hey do you guys think you can do a Powerpuff Girls campaign for some answers on the RNGineer cheat-fleets? Seems you bois are FD's favourites.
They used in the first place. So no campaign obviously :D It will hurt SDC more than anyone else :D :D :D

See?

Me and some other explorers went and gank-scanned beige planets in the hope they'd complain to FD, but those beige pillocks are all slackers.
I tried ganking these forums to make them complain about me complaining about the FAS cockpit but alas all I got was mildly prickly gumbo instead of the full blown wasabi milkshake I was hoping for :D

Seems if you can't threaten to gank something to prove it is in fact an issue worthy of a single sentence acknowledgement then it's just not something FD will endeavour to respond to as quickly as possible. Hmmm... How does one gank a planet or a cockpit? Answers on a postcard please.

With God-rolled ships and exploity weapons, I pity the fools that don't combat log on those buffoons.

Deja Vu!
Hello again! You may remember our last operation under this banner from September 2016, when the "heat meta" was at its peak. The following patch, Frontier "fixed" heat weapons by hard-capping their induced heat to 95% of a target's heat capacity.

Or did they?

As some of you may be aware, thermal cascade cannons were completely untouched by this balancing pass. This means that they can spike your heat to anywhere between 110%-180% depending on your ship's heat capacity and the size of the cannons hitting you. It might also be worth pointing out that this effect works through shields, so you can just imagine what it's like to fight against. Even if you're idle in an FDL with a low-emissions powerplant and godrolled clean drives equipped, you will still spike to 140% heat after being hit with these weapons.

Currently, the weapons are nowhere near as prominent as they could be, due to the fact that most players have simply refused to use them against each other up to this point (yes, even SDC). While this does kind of solve the issue of removing them from the PvP scene, it still does not solve the underlying issue that they exist and are glitched and broken.

Of course, this has been ticketed and reported to Frontier on multiple occasions, but nothing has been done about it (we did get a few ship kits though, so there's that). Given the detrimental effect it is having on the game (PvP and PvE players alike are being affected) and the fact that they were not fixed in the beta that just finished, SDC is now going to commence that which it does best: an operation to cause enough public outcry to grab Frontier's attention. Cue Operation SpicyBois 2.0.

  • What is it?
Simple. We are going to strive to make the heat cannon glitch as widespread a problem as possible. Unlike last time, we will not be restricting ourselves to using non-meta ships for this operation. While we will still be using stupid things like heat cannon keelbacks and T9's to prove how broken they are, we will also be using heat cannon corvettes and FDL's. All targets will be sent a custom text macro that explains their current situation, and also encouraging them to make a post about their experience on the official forums regarding how stupid the enemy's heat cannons were.

  • Why are you doing this?
The only way to make Frontier fix a game-breakingly glitched game mechanic is through a tidal wave of community tears. It worked for the 2016 heat meta, healing beams, and starport firepower/countermeasures, so we are hoping for similar results this time around.

  • I just got roasted by a wing of SpicyBois, what do I do to stop this?
Glad you asked! Create a thread on the official Frontier Forums' "Dangerous Discussion" board regarding your issue, preferably with screenshots and/or videos to strengthen your case. Get a discussion going regarding the manner of your in-game death and the glitched game mechanics that made it possible. Hopefully Frontier lends an ear to the cacophony that will be generated.

The operation begins now. Everything burns.

Yours lovingly, CMDR Rinzler o7o7o7

Alright Rinzler sir. o7o7o7

Thanks for the great videos, and good luck with the op.

I took a bit of heat in Maia this morning, nothing the 'Conda couldn't handle though.

I wonder if it was part of your campaign.

In the 30 sec between leaving a station and jumping, I wonder just how effective any weapon can be against a preped ship and pilot.

Never laugh so hard.

Tell me though, what can we do as an operation that raises awareness for all the exploited ships flying around?

For heat, we kitted out trade ships and orcas to roast people and prove how OP it was
For healing, we healed each other inside a station and killed people with turrets
For cannons, we're kitting out mostly non-meta ships and roasting people to prove how OP it is

For exploited ships, I don't know what we could do. Maybe go around killing people with godrolled ships (that we obtained legitimately)?

Erm, isn't that what you normally do? :)

For this particular problem I don't think lack of awareness is the issue. It's pretty clear that max-engineered PvP ships are horrifically overpowered compared to absolutely everything else.

I'm tempted to think that's the whole point of them though, as max-engineered PvP ships can't do much else without being extremely frustrating to do anything else in the game.

The absolute best PvP ships though - are still completely stock noobwinders.

I guess it's only appropriate that the sequel would also turn out to be about a bug which Frontier was already planning to fix. Will you carry on the tradition of claiming credit for getting it fixed anyway? ;)

Yeah, people have only been posting about it for the last 3 betas and six months. Way to go FD.

It's been there for some time. Slipped through balance passes and while I'm very ignorant about coding, I presume changing the value on a weapon effect would be a simple matter. It's been a while. I think the plan here is a tad gimmicky but I don't doubt it will bring attention to the issue and maybe even speed things up a tad. Also, it's in game and they aren't breaking any rules. If there's a complaint to be made, it should be to FD about the cannons. As the saying goes, "Don't hate the player, baby; hate the game".

I don't have any new complaint to make about either since, as you say, it's nothing new. Just thought it was an amusing coincidence that the same thing happened both times.

I would suggest a simple test, rather than an operation. As i worry more about the effect of godrolled ship in general than the actual exploit, I would like to see what it means in practice.

A basic test of the effectiveness of different types of builds.

How to do:

- Use a flexible ship. Perhaps the Clipper? Outfit it an a few variations and test one on one.

- One godrolled combat version.
- One standard-rolled G5 combat version.
- One standard-rolled G5 general purpose version. This one needs to have a good fuel scoop, SRV and acceptable cargo space.
- One unengineered combat version.

Test these builds against each other to see how big the discrepancies are and publish it.

You guys have the resources to do this and should have interest in minimizing the discrepancies in combat effectiveness.

OMG the hysteria over the god-rolled ships gets more bizarre by the day, as it now seems to pervade almost every thread related to game changes needed, with Ziljan at the vanguard - he's like a dog with a bone, atm.

Let me spell it out to you...the only people affected by this are serial PvPers...anyone else getting up in arms is overreacting. Ergo, SDC et al have the most to lose by this exploit due to their playstyles. Check out the PvP league - god-rolls are just 'Engineers' in microcosm - how did the organisers deal with the problem of RNG advantages? They removed the upgrades from the tournament with one G1 module (why this one pointless concession? who knows!).

Some of you are implying 'this means I now have no chance if I meet a PvPer ship with god-rolls in open' - I have news for you, Ziljan - one, there is absolutely no guarantee their g1=g5 rolled ships are massively OP due to the very nature of RNG & two, if you meet one of these guys, you have no chance anyway - this is all they do day after day - they're good at it. They fight with others who are good at it...this makes them even better...they do this everyday....for hours...get it?

The god rolls will make ZERO practical difference to 99.9% of players - many commenters are using this issue expediently to put the boot in with unsubstantiated accusations & are just passive-aggressive PvP haters...probably jealous of the skills/ships (hard-earned in the vast majority of cases) on show.

God, I'm beginning sound like Jason Barron...someone kill me!

NO TIME TO PROOFREAD - ARGHHH!

Tell me though, what can we do as an operation that raises awareness for all the exploited ships flying around?
Participate in the forum in the relevant threads, or create them with your insights on PvP. Create one of them SDC videos with the funny voices outlining the issue as you have done with so many other issues.

For heat, we kitted out trade ships and orcas to roast people and prove how OP it was
And it was a failed operation.

For healing, we healed each other inside a station and killed people with turrets
Which was an excellent display to prove a point.

For cannons, we're kitting out mostly non-meta ships and roasting people to prove how OP it is
Since this is the first time I've heard of that campaign, not so successful in creating awareness is it?

Look at this thread, and probably the accompanying one on reddit. Just the traffic in this thread is raising more awareness than ganking people in the hope they'll come to the forum and create a drama about it. Didn't work with SpikeyToys 1 won't work with 2. In both occasions FD reacted before reports of CMDRs being ganked came in. So I put it to you that creating forum awareness has been much more effective than the in-game awareness both campaigns were geared towards.

Don't get me wrong, have your campaign, it's all good. But don't fool yourself that's the effective part of your campaign.

For exploited ships, I don't know what we could do. Maybe go around killing people with godrolled ships (that we obtained legitimately)?
Oh don't be so defeatist. You're creating videos about all kinds of issues like your T-7 trade ship video. Now that was excellent. Cobble some hardcore PvP ship together, show it's stats, see it being shot at heat meta style, and show the ship boiling up accompanied by yodeling if you have to. (But I'd beg you not to)

Or not. I'm just suggestin'. Don't listen to some carebear pillock. My girlfriend doesn't. And she's alright.
