Engineers SDC Commences "Operation SpicyBois 2.0"

Do you guys even know how heat damage work? Do you even know that you actually can have a decent protection not from overheat, but from damage itself. Do you know that you can go Sturdy mounts and shielded upgrade? How about you guys GIT GUD?

The thing you have to understand is that once you cheat and pull up the cheat-ladder behind you, it's harder to retool your ship via engineers because now you have to do it legitimately. So going sturdy mounts or shielded would mean going legit. That's apparently a bridge too far, and so of course the only "viable" solution is that Frontier must nerf cannons so SDC can keep winning. Nevermind that it's one of the few effects available to non-cheaters left that can actually combat god-roll griefers.

I get the feeling this is going to lead to some pew-pew handbaggery of apocalyptically epic proportions - yet vast swathes of Elite players will neither know, nor care, and remain 0fg.

As I kept reading that, I began to wonder how it is that you know absolutely nothing about what you're trying to say.

Then I realised the player group you're in:
http://i.imgur.com/P4K33E9.png

The video in the post features an FDL with a godrolled low emission plant and godrolled clean drives, sitting idle (no heat produced by movement or firing). It got cooked to 140% heat easily.
If you played in open and actually fought heat cannons sometime, you would understand why this operation is a necessity. If you like, I could contact IB to set up a heat cannon education lesson for you :)
First, if Huge cannon heat your FDL - GIT GUD.

Second - Clean drives are MORE heat, than Dirty drive. Because of more MW per second used by PP x heat efficient. Surprise for me that you yet don't know it (a good thing to know)

Third - it is very important to not only PP whould be low heat, but also need a gap between used MW power and what you have. Basicly if you have 25MW PP and used only 20 MW of it - you get less damage from heat. It is not about OVERHEAT. Overheat will be always as a thing. It is about actual damage from heat. Anaconda or Corvette can eat 2 magazines of cannons in face with only 40-50% integrity damage on modules. Not FDL ofcourse. This ship was designed for dodge fight and not tanking in face. By that time you whould realise that heat cannons are ok. If not panick after few defeat. Also.. Dropships, FASs, Gunships and other "Bricks" of this game don't care about heat cannons like FDL. So that is a good countrmeasure to use.

The problem is - (it is very important, you'd better listen to it) heat cannons are somehow related to damage. The more damage your cannon have - more heat it deal.

What needed to be fix is DAMAGE = HEAT. We definetly don't want to kill heat cannons just like you already killed heals.. because they are the only thing that force ppl to even use HS. Are we?

4th - I knew it was IB. Just was not sure 100%.

5th - player group have nothing to do with me. It is a nice community, but i am on my own. And play in open. And where is a lot of players who play in open as well.

Holy crap the amount of salt in this thread. Just because you don't like the person delivering the message doesn't mean it's not true.

Heat cannons are absurdly broken. Fighting anyone using them ranges from anywhere between "massively disadvantaged" to "completely futile". In damn near any realistic combat situation with plausible builds & fighting, getting hit with heat cannons = you take module damage. Low-emission PP, Efficient weapons, Clean Drives... none of this will save you from module damage; let alone if you're running Overcharged or Dirty Drives.

To the people saying "Doesn't affect me, I'm in private group": what the hell kind of attitude is that? You're prepared to just hide forever because there's people trying to kill you... and you're unwilling to listen to someone trying to make said ganks less effective? Totally overlooking the fact that this crap also works PvE, burning out the modules of any NPC... what happens if Frontier decides that high-end NPCs should have some engineered modules?

Go get'em SDC. Expose the problem for what it is, hopefully these get changed. As it is, for players actually interested in throwing down against other players sometimes, these things are complete dealbreakers.

It is very important to not exaggerate issue more than it is. And even more importantly is to know what exactly and why is broken in these heat cannons. Overvise we will simply play plasma spam with no diversity for the eternity. We already killed heals with that altitude.. Heat mechanics are a well addition to a game. We have to be more smart on this one. Or we will simply loose it like we already loose heals.

Heat cannons are useless against ship on hulltanking. And are very hard to hit with them on such target.

Operation SmurfyBois 1.0:

Going to promote that everyone start ignoring posts from SDC 13th et al, and refusing to engage in any PVP until they create an operation that protests the recent Engineer Exploit resulting in ALL GOD MODULES BEING REMOVED FROM THE GAME, and PVP viability is restored.

This ^^^^^^^

I can see how this affects PVPers, but why do you say it is also important for PVEers? NPCs do not use heat-inducing effects. Neither do PVE players. Cascade cannons may heat NPCs, but HYS is way more effective. And no sane (or insane) PVEer would use thermal shock due to -20% damage.

Hello again! You may remember our last operation under this banner from September 2016, when the "heat meta" was at its peak. The following patch, Frontier "fixed" heat weapons by hard-capping their induced heat to 95% of a target's heat capacity.

Or did they?

As some of you may be aware, thermal cascade cannons were completely untouched by this balancing pass. This means that they can spike your heat to anywhere between 110%-180% depending on your ship's heat capacity and the size of the cannons hitting you. It might also be worth pointing out that this effect works through shields, so you can just imagine what it's like to fight against. Even if you're idle in an FDL with a low-emissions powerplant and godrolled clean drives equipped, you will still spike to 140% heat after being hit with these weapons.

Currently, the weapons are nowhere near as prominent as they could be, due to the fact that most players have simply refused to use them against each other up to this point (yes, even SDC). While this does kind of solve the issue of removing them from the PvP scene, it still does not solve the underlying issue that they exist and are glitched and broken.

Of course, this has been ticketed and reported to Frontier on multiple occasions, but nothing has been done about it (we did get a few ship kits though, so there's that). Given the detrimental effect it is having on the game (PvP and PvE players alike are being affected) and the fact that they were not fixed in the beta that just finished, SDC is now going to commence that which it does best: an operation to cause enough public outcry to grab Frontier's attention. Cue Operation SpicyBois 2.0.

  • What is it?
Simple. We are going to strive to make the heat cannon glitch as widespread a problem as possible. Unlike last time, we will not be restricting ourselves to using non-meta ships for this operation. While we will still be using stupid things like heat cannon keelbacks and T9's to prove how broken they are, we will also be using heat cannon corvettes and FDL's. All targets will be sent a custom text macro that explains their current situation, and also encouraging them to make a post about their experience on the official forums regarding how stupid the enemy's heat cannons were.

  • Why are you doing this?
The only way to make Frontier fix a game-breakingly glitched game mechanic is through a tidal wave of community tears. It worked for the 2016 heat meta, healing beams, and starport firepower/countermeasures, so we are hoping for similar results this time around.

  • I just got roasted by a wing of SpicyBois, what do I do to stop this?
Glad you asked! Create a thread on the official Frontier Forums' "Dangerous Discussion" board regarding your issue, preferably with screenshots and/or videos to strengthen your case. Get a discussion going regarding the manner of your in-game death and the glitched game mechanics that made it possible. Hopefully Frontier lends an ear to the cacophony that will be generated.

The operation begins now. Everything burns.

Nevermind that it's one of the few effects available to non-cheaters left that can actually combat god-roll griefers.

Trouble is, from my experience at least.. it's the griefers that are almost exclusively using these bugged cannons, because for the unprepared target they can wreck internal modules and prevent an escape.. thus giving the heat griefers their jollies.

The only real counter to them is to use them yourself and have more guns or better overcharged rolls. All heatsinks do is buy you precious seconds.

It still a drop in the ocean, compared to the general build balance in the game.

Making a big fuzz over an insignificant thing like heat cannons, just draws focus away from the real issues.

Oh absolutely agree, there are bigger issues and this isn't truly 100% gamebreaking, still needs fixing though :)

Starting with removing all special effects and premium ammo is a good start.

I've never tried the Enforcer cannons. They may still be an issue, even without thermal cascade. All the big guns will be fixed though.

First, if Huge cannon heat your FDL - GIT GUD.

If a huge heat cannon even hits an FDL, it will overheat it no matter how it is outfitted.

Look, I know you're mad that your go-to broken game mechanic crutch is at risk of being nerfed here, but you know as well as I do that this is broken in its current state. It does not conform to the balance passes to heat that were applied several months ago.

Dropships, FASs, Gunships and other "Bricks" of this game don't care about heat cannons like FDL. So that is a good countrmeasure to use.

No, even those ships get overheated to obscene levels by 1-2 heat cannon hits. Perhaps moreso than FDL's, since they have much larger hitboxes and do not have the speed or manoeuvrability to dodge any incoming shells reliably (with the exception of the FAS)

The problem is - (it is very important, you'd better listen to it) heat cannons are somehow related to damage. The more damage your cannon have - more heat it deal.

Correct, this is what needs to be fixed. Cannons need to spike you up to a maximum of 95% of your ship's heat capacity on their own, regardless of the raw damage of the incoming cannon shells or the number of hits received. They need to supress a ship's actions (firing, boosting, FSD charging), not outright melt their internals.

Soooo your solution is to mass gank random players?

Great.. I'm sure first thing they will do is go complain to the official forums specifically about heat cannons, instead of just leaving the game (or open)

Well, I suppose if I was still playing this game and in open, I might just be more than merely bemused. But Im not playing this game right now...and even if I was, Id be in solo anyway so...erm...moving on, nothing to see here but you guys knock yerselves out...I got plenty of popcorn fer the inevitable ^
