I wonder if it will change when players starts to actually hurt them?

Guess it will change when we actually can Scan them/have the scanner equipped... we will see in a few hours anyway, i think :)

Oh it also stays green (in contacts, itself is totally red) while a Research Limpet is attached...

Shamelessly cross-posted here!

I really dislike the new Forum structure. I used to know where to find information, ask questions, and just have a general chat about pertinent things. Every day, over breakfast, lunch and after dinner, I perused the Canonn, Raxxla and FRift threads because they were what interested me and I liked the (semi-)scientific approach of the Canonn discussions. Now it seems to be a matter of delving into a whole load of threads under the headings of Aliens or Lore, Roleplay & Events. There are already 262 threads in the former and 16 threads in the latter. This is madness!

The Formidine Rift thread was nothing to do with roleplay! It was for exchange of information and ideas about Salomé and her quest to reveal the truth; when people tried roleplay there they were politely requested to take it elsewhere.
The Canonn thread, although at times unwieldy when new things happened and everybody & his uncle posted into it, was a good starting point for conversations and provided a summary (the First Page) of theories, hypotheses and results.

NOW I CAN'T FIND ANTHING!!!!!!!!
I got a lot of enjoyment from discussing the game in the appropriate threads; the game and the forum discussions were part and parcel of total experience. I was looking forward to 2.4; now I'm lost.

Disgruntled of Mu Leonis.

p.s. I'm glad to see a bit of the commonsense and cameraderie continues here!!

If we are going to have a new set of threads, we need one specifically for discussing Jaffa Cakes... which we know... oh... wait a minute...

Um... Well, wagon wheels. And biscuits!!!

I spent most of yesterday just going from one NON-HUMAN SS to the next. All the encounters were very peaceful, as usual.

The only thing I noticed that surprised me a bit, is that the Thargoid turnes green in the contact panel after scanning me. This is usually reserved for friendlies and allies. Makes me wonder if we all have a hidden individual relationship rank with them?

Pics? Not quite sure I get what you mean with that re: the contact panel? Do you mean on the radar?

Signed. Maybe someone can rename this thread and mark it as the current official "Alien Investigation Thread" (or what-the-like) ? Would also be glad not to read too much chit-chat here......

Not the radar. I forgot pics, but it's like this one.

Except is says Thargoid. :)

3) The way the Thargoid ships held position with mine was totally unrealistic - they basically responded directly to my thruster inputs, if I thrust left they move left, thrust up and they move up ... not reacting (with a realistic reaction time delay) to the movements of my ship, but directly to my own control inputs.

Now see, I have a theory on this.

I believe that Thargoids are able to move outside of the normal laws of physics. They can move around freely, with no visible thrusters or other form of 'standard' propulsion. So it stands to reason they can perform manoeuvres that strike us as impossible. For example, the concept of matching our own movements, might simply be that, at that moment, they're just occupying the same part of spacetime as we are, and that would mean they move WITH us. It might be a side effect of their type of movement - like anti-gravity, or perhaps a form of warp bubble, so when they're right next to us, they can 'latch' on to us by enveloping us in their little bit of personal spacetime - which could also be the reason they don't want us getting too close.

They can clearly manipulate spacetime much easier than we can, opening rifts to Witchspace with ease, and completely ignoring planetary gravity.

Another slightly different mood in another lvl 5 threat USS, this time the thargoid flew straight towards me, and I flew backwards. It closed in at 350 meters and scanned me. In my cargo hold, I had Thargoid Sensor ( ex UA) and a damaged escape pod. After scanning me it kept its distance ( me still flying backwards). I had the impression it was waiting for something. Then it went hostile, and stayed hostile all the time. ( There was nothing left to pic at the USS.) It picked up the black box.

That happened to me all the time. No exceptions.

The fact Thargoid ships are so unique looking, yet they are apparently identical (as expected, since there's probably only the one ship object in the game) apart from this symbol makes me think it's definitely significant. But how or why I've no idea where to start.

To them, we all look the same.

Just trying to log into game. I've got the update box-bug fixes already?but it doesn't seem to be loading, just "preparing ffor update" or over a minute...

ed: it's started, Looks to be about 4Gb? Can't see any patch note link. Updated to 2.4.01

I'we updated two PCs with the latest patch and noticed that the "preparing for update" was very slow on both. Download was quick though.

Wow, THIS ! Kudos, great train of thought and maybe the way we have to think to "understand" or at least being able to
comprehend the Thargoid way, behaviour and technique. We have to "think" outside our own boundaries.

Since we should`t get to attached to the new "Tharghnought" wouldn`t it be a good idea to make some (temporary) sticky threads for the recent things going on like:

"The Tharg and You: Thargoid behaviour and interaction analysis""
"The (not that) CODE: Search and analysis of hidden code"
"The Canonn Company Excursions: Scientific interactions on the latest Gnosis destination"
"The Biscuits and Brandy Bar aka: The Thread formally known as Alien archeology and other mysteries: Temporary discussion hub"

Go for it [up]

Edit: And
* Search for more barnacle farms
* Finding extent of where the NHSS occur

Probably more

Good idea in general, but then you'd have to gather information from several threads at the same time, furthermore it could be that certain points in thread "one" would correlate with points in thread "two" and this would make the threads confusing in my opinion. I'd find it better, as it has been done before, to sum up certain aspects from time to time and to hard link them in the first post.

They do have the distortion field around them. Same as all the artefacts and meta-alloys. This field affects light in the same way as when we transition in to hyperspace.

It's not unreasonable to think that they use space compression or gravity manipulation, even for local maneuvering.

I pondered this a bit more, and it would also explain a few other things..

* Why Thargoids are currently impervious to our weaponry which still rely on human limited physics - matter of any kind may simply not affect Thargoid materials, lasers might as well just be searchlights.

* How Thargoids can repair so quickly. It stands to reason they use a different source of power, and this likely helps with regeneration. I would be fascinated to see what these Cyclops samples actually show, because it would definitely appear that a Thargoid 'ship' is at least partially biomechanical, and if so, then normal space-based dangers, such as radiation, temperature and pressure (or lack of) clearly have no effect on them.

If only there was a way to effectively communicate with them. We've accumulated so much data over 2 years, you'd think by now we'd have some form of understanding the way they DO communicate. So far, the majority of communication attempts have been by throwing rocks at them.
