Yes, it is. They didn't used to pass through shields, which made them completely worthless.

I wouldn't say completely worthless just took more "skill" or time to use them. Honestly that change hadn't effected my pirate routine except for shield tanking the smaller ships which I dare say is a little exploitive. But seeing as piracy is still one of the lower paid professions it should stay how it is. The money is still in the big traders and that pretty much requires a shield strip and knocking out power plant to be efficient.

Frontier patch notes:

Nerfs;
Bugs? Why fix bugs if you can nerf something a little more.

Great post! BLUF bottom line up front. Looks like the nerf-hammer was out pounding everything today lol. And it seems like everyone was targeted to some degree this time. Sorry but saying "working as intended..." and "Thargoids adapting..." really is a poor reply considering how much these changes negatively affect your customers.

Looking back at the FDev livestreams, where they were burning through 8-10Mil for rebuys in 20 minutes of 'fun' online gameplay, I can't believe there is such a poor understanding of the imbalance issues and the lack of understanding behind changes like what was done in today's update. Consider the effect of these changes for someone who likes passenger missions to earn credits - let's look at the simple math and possible worse case but potentially realistic scenario:

  • 1 hr cost of combat rebuys = 30 million credits / hour of combat (worse case)
  • passenger mission earnings as of today = typically 200k / 20,000 ly travel
  • rebuy total / mission payout = number of missions to do to pay for each hour of combat
  • 30,000,000 / 200,000 = 150 missions
Now let's consider the play time to do said missions:
  • 1 mission = 20,000 LY x [insert however fast you can jump this distance - maybe 4000 LY / hour?]
  • 150 missions = 6,000,000 LY / [insert speed] (3,000,000 LY x 2 to include the return journey)
  • 1 hr rebuy = 1500 hrs to recover cost hauling passengers

Does this sound like entertainment to anyone, really? Ummm... No.

FDev: #1 tip for you is to play your game as player's play your game. Get to know your product before making changes.

They stated during the beta that they were stress testing the increased missions and failure to retrieve mechanic, assume being PC only for Betas they didn't get a full test of its effectiveness on consoles.

The issue stems around poor/slow internet at the client side, i was one of those people until recently playing on a really bad connection but its effectively those people who are preventing the mission boards from moving forward.
The idea was to up missions and people on slow connections would only get a partial board, the disconnections are i guess an unintended bug.

Passenger mission changes are err... well...

Thinking this might possibly need a second pass :D

*Fixed issue whereby mining missions could be turned in for profit without leaving station

When has this become a issue? I have used this function since 1.0 and it made the mining a little less painful. In versions 1.x I used to fly with full cargo around picking mining missions for the 3 P's and the delivering the in, v 2.x and you nerfed the mining missions to a 0 for the 3 P's and brought the useless icediamond and water . Also v 2.x brought us the asteroids full of not so useful common materials, which nerfed mining even more. Mining is the worst profitable thing to do in the game and you nerfed it again with this update.

I concur. I also used to bring back those ice mining materials in hopes to find a few mining missions on the board so i could at least make a little profit out of a very boring experience. I'm not sure why this needed to be nerfed in any way.

I think the algorithm is using the LS number to calculate fee and not taking the LY into account as much. It should be reversed. It wouldn't surprise me if the variables have been switched by mistake in the code! :D (Oh, no, never happened to me, especially not when we used cryptic abbreviations. LOL!)

Yup.

The only time I do mining is when I feel I want some solitude/meditation activity. It's very soothing and calming, because there's not much that you do. Only need some way of locking the trigger button too. Sit there and watch, and only engage when you have to move to next asteroid...

But when it comes to rank, rewards, money... useless.

Considering that mining is such a tedious (and boring activity for some), I think it should be the highest paying job out there. It would make more sense. Also, what's up with these pirates finding you every time? How do they do that? Even if you go to a distant, zero population star system, there's a pirate within seconds. Amazing jump drives they have, and scanners.

- Scan universe for miners.
- "Found one"
- Jump there, right now, even if it's 1 billion LYs away.
- "Done."
- "Give me yar tasty cargo!"

Ah! p2p, only thing missing in ED is instant popcorn.. Interdictions, pirates the whole NPC ship thing is a pain. They just appear, never follow the same rules as the rest of us.

Just tried EDDI & EDMC both API are not working

With this update I'm not even bothering to do mining at all. FDEV well done.

For the funnies lets turn this mining mission "update" into Monty sketch. A delivery truck full of milk cartridges drives to loading bay of a shop.
"Hello".
"Hi". "Sir it seems that you have a need for 25 units of milkcartridge's."
"Yes" Take this paper that confirms a commission for 25 units of milkcartridges" And now get out and come in again to able to deliver them"
"But Sir I have the milkcartridge's right here, take them and give me the money"
"No!" Get out and come again to deliver them"
"..."
"I'm calling the rozzers, get the Frontier out now!"

---

I just can't even.. FDEV why why...

Got home tonight late (8pm PST, GMT-8) and first thing I notice is that the API is still broken. GREAT JOB, FDev. Glad you took the servers offline for this surprise patch.

Delivery/data missions are all still going to the Colonia region, regardless of faction state or reputation level.

Did the Thargoids destroy all of the destination systems other than Colonia already?

so basically "oh crap people are having fun making money and killing thargoids!" nerf everything to misery and oh fix some textures or something so we can say its a legit patch and not just another nerf bat kneejerk?
