I find it HIGHLY unlikely ED will last even half that. The game is 3 years old and is not yet fully fledged (it lacks even basic comms and features ANY mmo has) either by design OR malpractice. People try and shoot down SC but at least they are designing AND building the game players want, not a vision that is sold and not delivered on. The white knights can bleat all they want but the facts remain, ED is crap once you get past the "oooh" 5 minutes in.
Modes ED "Beyond" Disappointing, anyone have similar feelings?

I stopped playing ED about 3-4 months ago now, I have no interest in hunting Thargoids and most of the stuff in 'Beyond' does not interest me.
I did love mining in ED and the new mining upgrades could possibly get me back playing again, however do I want to wait 12-14 months for them to appear in Q4 of 2018?
NO. I'm assuming by then X4 will be out and ED for me will be a thing of the past. Shame really, if the mining updates were hitting in Q1 then I'm sure I'd be back, for a time anyway. but wait 12 months for it? naah, I don't think so.

You do realize that frontier communicated that the development time for ED would be at least 10 years ( thats after 1.0 launched )?
Sure and that's not an issue, but atm I'm not playing the game at all as since like 2.1 the game offers nothing 'new' for me, mining does interest me but do I want to wait over a year to play the game? unlikely tbh.
I'm not disappointed in what FD presented, however you're right regarding how a professional project is planned and executed.
All my projects for this and next year is scheduled including milestones.
We need to plan hundreds of people traveling all over the world to different locations so there is a lot of planning before anyone arrives. So yes that road map was a pointing finger nothing more

You do realize that in a 10 year timeframe 24 months is not much. Especially if you are going for mining only. I do understand you - but I can not see this as a valid critique about the game a such. Maybe I just misinterpretd waht you wrote...

I cant see why not, seems to have a reasonably healthy player base which could expand next year after squadrons come out.
Last time I checked the game does have basic comms. What it doesn't have is a global comms channel, which I am happy about, I always hated that in LOTRO. and it doesn't have guilds and guild comms, but that looks like that will be changing to a degree in a years time.
As we do not know what Star Citizen will be like when it is released I find this difficult to understand. As of right know SC is a clusterxxxx. What they are developing is not going to be anything like what we where told it was going to be. Also from what I can tell SC will not be out for at least another 3 years if we are lucky.
I have asked for a refund as some of the design desisions are completely crazy. At the moment it is taking 15-20 minutes to fly from one moon to another, and people complain about the time it takes in ED.
That is obvioulsy purely subjective and not a fact. I am sure there are games that you think are a masterpiece that I think are crap too. You think it is craps, but hundreds of thousands don't. So stop talking out the place where the sun doesn't shine. I am not a white knight, I see the flaws, but I also see the good parts. I give constructive criticism where I think it needs it, and praise when it is good. ED does a lot of good and a lot of bad. It looks like most of the bad will be fixed during next year.

I have my complaints but i disagree that the game is crap... and funnily enough the things missing which YOU think makes the game crap i could not give 2 squits about.
where as the stuff i desperately want from the DDF perhaps dont interest you? (ED was never meant to be an mmo in the sense which you seem to want, and i can dig out the david braben quote if you insist)
SC i think is going down a very dark path imo and i keep hovering over the refund.
when i backed it was just for a new privateer game essentially, with a spiritual successor to wing commander thrown in.

Sorry to have to tell you, that's an urban myth. FD has never said that.
You made the mistake of only looking at the picture, you also need to listen to them. There it is, the roadmap.
While I like the idea of Star Citizen and I'm looking forward to trying out alpha 3.0. I'm actually holding out more hope in the Squadron 42 campaign they're making, which is the spiritual successor to Wing Commander. We get to see more of that in December and finally get info on it's release roadmap.
yeah S42 is (relatively) easy I would imagine... even then tho... no VR, at least its low down on the priorities... this really peed on my chips and is where FD really were on the ball imo, even after all this time ED is still in the top flight of VR games.. i would imagine 75%** of VR owners have ED and that surely must be a good few sales.

What I don't get is that SC > ED... has a way smaller play universe, it doesn't have a stunning stellar forge rolling off planets for us... It is pretty, for sure, ofc it is, and it has some awesome tech.. but... then again, it is a tech demo.
I think, you add space legs to ED, let us walk around our ships, add team play with 1st person multicrew and ED will be every bit as good as SC and then some.
The only thing I can really see different between the two in terms of game play, is that SC has 1st person in its core. But you add that to ED, and the content that comes with it, and, there's simply no reason to go to SC.
(unless you like a different set of ships).

At this point using SC examppe is really rich, as it is not game and there's very little indication it will be one.
I agree. Also ED has a very different feel and art style which I prefer. The FPS part of SC just looks like a generic FPS with silly over powered armour and massive guns bolted on to the game. If ED does get First Person Perspective gameplay, I expect it to be very different to Star Citizen.
