Modes ED "Beyond" Disappointing, anyone have similar feelings?

if I may be allowed a middle of the road stance, I was really excited about all the things I did hear about, but also disappointed about the things I didn’t hear about. No word of an Orrery. No talk about the explorers toolkit other than “and they’ll have new tools”. No details about the Codex. They just named it but didn’t tell me what that really means to me, the explorer.

Op made one comment about mining and Frontier being ok with mining as-is until now. Well, we recently (in the grand scheme of things) had a change of lead Designer. It was Mike Brookes until Jurassic World was announced and he moved over, and now Sandro is the lead. Mike Brookes was always a great designer, but Sandro is willing to shake things up and, it seems to me, is extremely excited about what he’s doing. I wouldn’t want to imply that Mike wasn’t, but maybe some fresh enthusiasm was needed. It can be difficult to be excited about the same thing for years on end after all, and Mike saw this through the very early stages. Changes that are really important to us might tend to seem like window dressing for the guy that sheparded it through the gray boxes stage.

No Sir, what you cannot stomach is dealing with different opinions. And that fact is ironic since you bang on about honest discussion. If it isn't an echo chamber and you have to actually support what you say, your go to method is bailing out and crying: the fanboys are after me because they cannot stand my postings of truths.

You just proved the l33t named guy's point and didn't even realise...

Let me know when we can have a sensible chat...

I'll be there for you as soon as people stop posting so much nonsense. I have lots of criticism and suggestions for this game, but posting it now would just mean that it gets lost in the void. I still hope that the Stockholm Syndrome Offline Mode victims finally leave the forums and we can have some real discussions. But until then almost every critical thread is doomed to fail because there are just too many people unable to be reasonable.

They've said for a long while that the current versions of combat, mining, exploration eyc. It's not their vision of such professions, they've always said improvement were coming down the line, I'd like to see where they explicitly said that everything is fine and that I doesn't need any improvements.

Although judging by your arrogance by saying how "Easy" everything you mentioned is I'm surprised how you are not the master game developer over at FD.

Calling the game a tech demo or that it is "Incomplete" is like saying that your car is incomplete because it needs an oil change, that's the natural cycle of game development, they drop X feature, receive feedback and improve it for the future. Yes they took a LONG time to do it, which is a direct consequence of them biting more that they could chew but now that they are finally free of the Horizons season they can now release the content that they wanted from the beginning.

I am (surprisingly) mildly optimistic regarding ED in 2018 but please... what exactly stopped them from 'releasing content they always wanted' BEFORE horizons?

Does anybody else miss the good 'ol days when what we complained about non-stop was non-consensual PvP, back before the powers that be in their infinite wisdom ruined Dangerous Discussion? Man, I sure do.

Well, at least, it's free.

That's exactly the mentality that frontier want you to have.

No matter how much they under deliver in 2018 on their sabbatical with Jurassic park the fanboys will be here to tell everyone loud and clear "it's all ok though, coz it's free"

More postings of truth. My eyes! :D

If you want, I'll be happy to explain to you what indignation means. Then you can use that word in a sentence next time and it would actually make sense. Don't be afraid to ask. It's what the community is for :)

Darn can't rep you again... That is priceless, can't wait to see the reply, should be equally lame as the last.

I'm quite looking forward to the Beyond updates, however I'm becoming quite concerned with something that has been mentioned ad-nauseam by the community and the OP refers to it regarding the Guardians. It's becoming rather disconnecting and unrewarding to constantly find out about locations and events within the game only by reading forums and web articles.

Life lately with my online friends seems to be more about 'Hey did you read about the latest xxx that was found at yyy?' ...so we go over to yyy and look at xxx : rinse and repeat. It always feels like a second-hand experience. I understand the difficulties with creating personal connected experiences in an MMO but I'm starting to feel a little worn out by the current process and feel this is an opportunity for real improvement in the Beyond updates - and i think it is possible to improve.

At the very least, there should be some sort of in-game support system/network within the game visually indicating hot spots within the Galaxy for current on-going long-term narratives - AND suggest ideas about how you can individually get involved to contribute. It would be a place for Independent Pilots to go to and see how their services can be used within the Galaxy from the perspective of the different core professions - and i'm not just talking about the current short CGs.

Nah, their plans actually sound pretty good. I can't be disappointed without more details. I'm optimistic actually.

+1 rep for you!

This update series called "Beyond" looks like a real "filler". There are things I like, and there are also things I do not like ... but what makes me worried is especially the bad roadmap that was shown to EXPO2017.
It is too vague ... and there is a danger that players will fill this empty roadmap with unrealistic ideas and thoughts ... that will end up creating false expectations that could further damage the relationship between the players and the developer.

This roadmap is a joke, I am very surprised that the frontier has really shown such a thing.

Well the "roadmap" is not really a roadmap more like you're here and we like to go there map. However it's better than nothing. When FD speaks you should listen to the fine printing.

They want to improve what's under the hood. The engine is getting an overhaul and that is really good.

It's also good that they are making planet coaster and the Dino thingy, because it will be beneficial for ED in the long run.

All roads leads to Rome, in this case ED. Now instead of all the moaning and whining make a thread with suggestions, put your ideals down in a well articulated form and start a real honest discussion and I can guarantee that FDEV will listen, what they don't listen too and endless crying, to that only one thing can be said! Go site in the car! Mommy will be back shortly.

sorry? Did I complain? What did you write about is somehow related to me?

I do not think I've complained about everything, and I wrote that there are things I like ... I do not find it very useful to attack all indiscriminately just because someone raise a little question or doubt. I have the big doubt that the roadmap will damage the frontier. Did I say anything wrong?

It is too vague ...

Yea, but they, annoyingly so, always are. I just like that they are revisiting things that need a revisit and we're getting more ships. The multiplayer stuff seemed like it would be a pretty big deal to a lot of people, but perhaps not, not sure why it wouldn't be, people have been begging for it. It's going to take a lot of work to get just that right since they've done a lot of work just to get it where it is. I'm sure they'll have more details as each update comes closer as per usual. It's tough to be excited, but I am optimistic. The results will be important and since it is a free batch of updates for me, I'm willing to give them the chance and good faith.

Frontier emailed me today with the video recap of the ED presentation. I just finished watching it and was pleased with what I heard. People have been complaining that Frontier never listens, but 2018's roadmap seems to be all about Frontier listening to the griping of the past year. :D In many ways, I find 2018 more exciting than what we have gotten in 2017. And the fact that the core improvements are going to be free was a nice surprise.

Well done, Frontier! It's been a bumpy road but you are cruising now. [up]

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Yup! I'm looking forward to core gameplay improvements as well!

Of course we've barely started with 2.4, too. Good times. :)

The roadmap has a few planets on it, but it needs an advanced scanner (better than ADS) because, apparently, there are also other bodies to add to that map at around Q4 distance.
