Modes ED "Beyond" Disappointing, anyone have similar feelings?

I found one of the most rewarding and fun things about the game was in the discovery of the games mechanics and features that I didn't know about, but discovered through the process of learning, refining and building on technique. Granted it's not perfect but it's the best game of the genre we have so far. I hope your experiences change for the better - Good Luck!

Agreed, figuring out how to do things was brilliant. I felt like a proper explorer.

The thing I will never get about the SC whales, and it's the same bafflement at the quince billionaires.

Surely a huge part of starcitizen is your career in star citizen. It starts in S42 and you get to start in SC with some contacts and a small ship where you work to build your career.
OR you can skip the entire game by paying an outrageous amount of cash removing any sense of achievement from the game.

Of course that's just my perspective . To each their own but I can't think of a more expensive way to ruin a game.

Cash is merely a tool, or more importantly often a barrier to tools, a not an end. Some like playing with buckets and shovels instead of digging with their hands. Others like finding the perfect bucket with the perfect handle and just want to try them all out. The rest for them is just padding.

Especially when there is nothing alongside that padding, E: D doesn't have an S42. It doesn't try to have a narrative pull. It just places you in the middle of things and hopes you'll care enough to keep digging.

indeed... like i said it is just my perspective. For me cash isnt a tool..... my ship is the tool, and the point of the game is my career, the journey from zero to..... well not hero, but zero to "elite" i guess.
i am sympathetic to those who just say "I just want to PvP and am not bothered about all the grind". The problem is, to reduce the grind for 1 person is to remove the game for me.

IF FD can come up with a way to keep both groups happy they are better (wo)men than I. IMO ultimately it is a problem with EDs marketing. It sells itsself as a different game to different people, and therefore there will always be this issue for the entire life of the game

using a car game analogy, you have some wanting to play burnout, and some wanting to play i-racing and some wanting to play F1 manager all on the same track. All 3 are great games in their own right but are mutually exclusive and CANT be played at the same time on the same track.

(or to use your bucket vs hands analogy... I too want to use a bucket and a spade.... but I want to EARN that bucket and spade and not have it given to me)

It is why i enjoyed the balance of the game at launch.... tho that said there was even back then a scalability issue.... once you got to the 5 million level of ships, unless you traded or exploited you hit a brick wall, so even i admit it needed a tweak from that point on.
but my issue it their tweak completely removed the "start game" so much so when i did a mini wipe 12 months ago, it took me all of 2 play sessions to be back in an asp.

We have only been giving a small amount of info on what's coming, and so far, the fact the alliance is getting ships and one of them already looking really cool has me interested in beyond!

It's not a roadmap - why is anyone calling it one.

It's basically

Start Here-------stuff-------stuff----------END HERE

That says as much as not having a roadmap LOL

You made the mistake of only looking at the picture, you also need to listen to them. There it is, the roadmap.

Listen to them say what?

Other than 2 million "sales" and 300 staff working on it, no, there's no indication of there being any game there at all after 5 years development work.

The roadmap...

What about it?

You asked for it.

Since you obviously don't get it or didn't watch the live streams, here it is, the roadmap:

https://elitedangerous2016.wordpress.com/2-5-core-game-improvements/

Read it, watch the videos, listen carefully, etc. if this is

to you than I can't help you and you just don't know what the term roadmap means.

No I didn't watch the live stream which is why your posts didn't make any sense. Thanks for the info though.
Sorry, I thought you watched it because you knew about the picture of the "roadmap" and believed you are making fun of me. I wouldn't have been so cocky otherwise... :)

You are welcome!

OP,

Look, we don't really know everything that's in beyond right now. We certainly dont know all the features in that final large content update. Hell, it COULD even be space legs (I hope it is.) Don't be too down on beyond yet.

The problem (for me at least) Babelfisch is that right now, it's vapourware. We've been hearing these ideas since the funding started. I at least keep getting dissapointed after every release. We get delivered a buggy release which then takes them [fdev] weeks/months to fix.

And none of it joins up! Example: 2.4; Released with galactically stupid bugs which required emergency rework to fix. We're now on the 4th patch of 2.4 and still there are glaringly huge bugs with it.

2.3: MultiCrew, still buggy

The simple fact that the roadmap is based on reworking 'core' game issues, highlights how bad it actually is.

And the fact remains; What exactly will they deliver? Will it work? Will it be joined up?

I really would love to answer yes to those; but.. From what I've seen, they're not capable it. I know, I know, do it myself blah blah. But then, I'm not 'paying' myself am I?

OP, you should definitely buy an Idris, an 890 Jump and a space bike in Star Citizen! Head off for amazing high-fidelity adventures in one hundred systems full of exciting planet, moons and moons, which you can land on seamlessly. Plus you can get twenty of your friends to play with you, manning the turrets and drink mixers.

If they do spacelegs, it would stretch the current ocean that is a mile wide and inch deep into something even more shallow.
- think about all the work needed to plan different types of space stations and make them look unique
- think about all the work needed to plan around in great detail the interior of all ships, including their optional internal modules placements and look
- think about all the bugs that will inevitably happen
- finally, think about what space legs really gives you...

How often will you walk around your spaceship? If its *just* walking then probably not a lot. IF u have VR then maybe, for sightseeing.

How often will you walk around station? You expect the menu of trade, claims bounties or black market translated into MMORPG like locations and npc and conversations? Star citizen is doing that for 5+ years now and they are FAR from finished with millions of funding. You expect *this* to happen in q4? delivered by people who needed 4 years to acknowledge that mining is boring and needs a complete revamp? BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :)

Lastly, think about all the complains from other ppl that will happen "omg, why do i have to run around empty station for 20minutes to do somethign that i used to do in 20secs with few clicks on the board"

Space-legs, i beg you, dont do it. Theres no chance it will be good.

How in the hell someone can be "disappointed" in something which havent even been released yet?? :S

Of course it is vapourware. If it was already designed and created it wouldn't be a roadmap as it would be in game. You are not making any sense.

OP - Calling am update disappointing based on four bits of info a whole year before you actually play it is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
Personally I will reserve my judgement until then.

If you like bombastic promises over actual content, go try that other game that should be out any time, now.

So what?
Then quit?
Do you even know what you want?

Like so many talking heads and political campaigners, you've done a fine job of pointing out what's pretty obvious and offered absolutely zero suggestions as to how to improve things.

I've played quite a few games, and I've yet to find a single one that has done every single thing exactly right - but they've all be fun. Elite is no exception.
