INRA Base Discoveries

Well it's hard as they're 218Mb each :p However this is a crop of one and if you zoom right in you'll notice how the metal fixings don't lose any quality, but the writing's already blurred. I can't see anything behind the writing though, maybe it's cause the lighting's different but I don't think so. Click the picture to get a fullscreen version.

I can almost read that. For instance, the lighter panel in the middle reads something like:

??????, What do you think you will accomplish by bringing in ???? ???? I think you ???? ??? ???? ??? power ???

Similarly, I can see words in the other sections. The very last line on the right panel seems to read:

And a final sequence/surprise is in ??????? of us.

I might try some image manipulation on it, see if I can coerce those words to become a bit clearer...

Ahh well i suspected it was intentionally blurred.... but had my hopes.

They must have run some solvent over it when they abandonded the base.

So it appears that Alnath and hip 59382 are duplicates, with the exception of the add-on thargoid dungeon.... if anyone is at hip 59382, can you go look at the building I have marked K on the map, and see if these yellow and blue characters are at that base as well, if your looking at my map it will be the South west corner of the K building If NW is the legend I put on this one.

The blue and yellow circles seem to be something normal. Just visited Dixon Dock and saw this:

I can't bother reading 65 pages...how many bases have been found?
Never mind, I see OP gets updated :D

When i went to bed i had stopped at 2 more, i think the "pac man effect" in pics must have been a graphics issue. Other sites have complete circles.
8 hours of going over every pixel at 3 sites leaves me with feeling if theee is another clue its not on cargo containers or buildings at those sites.
The audio in the messages at one of those sites alnath i think, has almost morse code sounding beeps. But i cant hear well enough anymore to tell. In the first message it sounds like a keypad to a door, but then the others messages sound more regular.
Ill try to get back tonight and see if i can export audio into something else and fine tune that.

Just reporting my findings. In Frontier First Encounters, which John Jordan converted to i386 (reference JJ-386 ship), the first Thargoid mission has you go to Turners Requiem on Fortress Culloden, on Alioth. Here you have to donate the max amount of credits before you are given a mission to locate the wrecked Turner's Quest. The Turner's Quest was Mic Turner's ship. A revolution in ship design, the Turner Class ship was the result of several years of intense R&D at the AAAI shipyards. Argent Aerodynamics Amalgamated Inc, or AAAI is a company co owned by Mic Turner and Meredith Argent. When the Alioth System decided to rise up against both the Federation and Empire, it had no navy, nor the means to build one. Meredith Argent and Mic Turner banded together and came up with the brilliant idea of retro fitting Long Range Cruisers into battleships instead of building a brand new navy. The people of Alioth volunteered their time and their own ships for the cause and AAAI was formed to manufacture the new Alliance Navy.

The Turner's Quest carries the largest and most powerful commercial hyperdrive known to humanity - the Class 4 Military. The drives range was over ninety light-years. Only four of these ships were ever produced; for the founders of AAAI, Mic Turner and Meredith Argent, and their close friends. The first Turner class ship, the Turner's Quest, is destroyed in battle with INRA in 3253. The second, Argent's Quest travels beyond the rim of known space, while the remaining two enter private service.

INRA had secrets beyond the northern frontier, namely how they won the war against the Thargoids. These were secrets they were prepared to kill to protect, which they did, destroying the Turners' Quest. When Mic Turner didn't make contact with AAAI, Jo Merion was sent to find out what happened. She recovered his Stowmaster Capsule but was then apprehended by INRA forces. She was eventually released without the capsule and given accolades with both major governments.

Undeterred, and worried for her friend, Meredith Argent hired a commander to fly the Argent's Quest (which I believe to be the first Thargoid mission mentioned above) to the last known location of the Turner's Quest (Pleione 4B). The pilot found the wrecked ship, including its black box and a wounded Thargoid ship (HIP 17125 A 3 A, anyone? Less than 40LY away from Pleione and the Turner's Quest drive could easily do 90LY). Returning to AAAI, the data was replayed and the commander sent to Polaris where there was reference to another unknown entity. The Argent's Quest docked with the entity and appeared in a system over 600 light years away - the Thargoid home planet. There, the commander learned that INRA developed a virus to destroy the Thargoid's organic hyper-drives. The Argent's Quest returned to human space to find the antidote. He returned to the Thargoid Homeworld with the antidote, allowing the Thargoids to travel again. In thanks they built a Thargoid warship for the commander, who flew home to accolades in the Alliance, but criminal charges in both the major powers, both of which are linked to INRA.

Interesting stuff, so have some rep ;)

Question is whether any of it is now relevant, seeing as we are at the commencement of a 2nd Thargoid war. But that INRA antidote is still out there somewhere, and no doubt has a role to play later.

Also, there's the puzzling relevance and location of JJ-386 ........

@Lighspeed Hey thanks! Right back at you! Bottom line, the JJ-386 might just be on the same planet where the old Thargoid ship was found. Maybe it was added in 2.4, which could explain why it wasn't found together with the old Thargoid ship (the POI bug). If not that, then I dunno...

I am by no means even adequate at finding things on the surface, but last week when this thread turned towards the crash at hip 17125, i spent several hours running a fairly intense visual search at various logical angles from the thargoid, and found no additional wreckage.

Me too. I hypothesised that the Cobra shot down the goid & would have followed it down to confirm kill, but being itself damaged didn't manage to pull out of the dive & crashed nearby. I spent Friday afternoon doing a visual search along the bearing of the goid wreck (there's some tall mountians very close by that could be fruitful) but no results, however if you blink at the wrong moment you might miss it. We really need better ship sensors, if they can detect cargo canisters and old wrecks by blue poi circles from above 2km altitude they most definitely should be able to detect these types of wreck! I quite like doing a visual search, the detail of the views astounds me (especially since I treated myself to a 4k monitor last week), but I don't want to spend my whole gametime doing so.

I would love the unfolding story somehow involve the fate of the Turner Class ships. I'm a bit nostalgic, you know.

Also, are there any ideas as to who the sponsors ("benefactors", "corporate bigwigs") of the development of vaccine were? We're they under Thargoid influence?

Actually what brought me to the thread. I was sitting there looking at mtns and it looked like the goid might have nicked 'em, so i drove over, then flew, then searched the forum, followed in the footsteps of some ideas mentioned further back, and after 8 or so hours I gave up.

If the downed ship is 100% a cobra though, that theory doesn’t hold water. It would have to be a Turner class ship. Also if that’s the case, it wouldn’t have brought down the Thargoid ship because Alliance (and Mic Turner) was pro Thargoids, as far as i understand it. It’s likely that ships sent by Inra brought both down and they could be in two completely different places on that same planet. And the other thing is that we are brute forcing the search but maybe we don’t have to and there could be clues that we haven’t found yet. This of course is all conjecture.

In the interest of accurate nostalgia,

The ship was a Quest Class

FFE was entirely consistent in this designation

Not so sure about that. I remember even internals referring to it as Turner Class, with ships named "Turner's Quest" and "Argent's Quest"... Can you link a source for this?

Edit: Alrighty, I found it. The bulletins called it the Quest Class but elsewhere (including code) it was Turner Class.

Internal code never counts, otherwise we'd be going around calling the Clipper the "Empire Trader", etc.

It was called the Quest Class everywhere in the game, or specifically by name such as the shipyard, and the BBS:

TURNER’S REQUIEM Tickets available here for Mic Turner’s memorial service. All donations go to the new Quest maiden voyage.

We don’t require further credit, you have given enough to show your commitment. We require a Commander to re-trace Mic Turner’s steps in order to find out what happened. You are of suitable skill and seem to have the necessary commitment. Would you be interested in taking on this mission?

You are now in possession of the ARGENT’S QUEST - the most powerful ship in the known Universe. You must travel immediately to the last place that Mic explored - the Hidden System at 32, 32. We believe the Turner’s Quest is still there - you should photograph it as proof of your successful arrival. It is also likely that Mic’s Flight Recorder will be there - either in or near the ship. Please return it to us. You have enough fuel to make the return journey and your weapons should ensure your survival. Take Care. You will make a lot of enemies this way. Please launch now. Good luck.

Well Done, Commander. We will examine the photographs in detail. In the meantime, the Flight recorder read-out has revealed the existence of a second Hidden system. Mic found a Thargoid Shuttle there and we believe it may still be functional. Would you be interested in a new mission to investigate it?

Thank you. We have serviced the ‘ Argent’s Quest ‘ and added a Nuclear Missile and Transmission Jammer that you will need. The second Thargoid Base is at Polaris [0, 76]. Please go there immediately, and return here when you get back to human space. Thank you.

Incoming message from the Thargoid Clone Leader: You have been to Pleione and Polaris. We believe that you are here for personal gain and wish to make you an offer that it will be in your interest to accept. If you do not wish to consider our offer, you may request launch as usual and we will release your ship. You should depart immediately before the ‘ Argent’s Quest ‘ becomes terminally infected with the INRA mycoid. If you intend to stay and accept our offer, please click ‘ YES ‘. Message ends.

I hunted around, and while there's a few copies of the mission texts around; this page has all of them

Just read logs. Have to say - FD have sometimes struggled with writing articles and stuff, but Thargoids story line along with Lost Ones and Guardians is well written. Gave me chills and thoughts about humanity. Never expected game to do that.
