Someone else got the problem that the game forgets what was assigned to a second joystick (if you own two, like me :)[dual T.16000m]) every time the game restarts?

I'm running a very old Sawtry Cyborg Force 3D with a logitech cordless rumblepad 2. I also lose settings for the second (rumblepad) controller.

Well hopefully we will be having full force feedback support so sticks like the EVO Force and other force feedback sticks and HOTAS will be fully supported.

I just ordered Thrustmaster Flight Hotas X. A bit late, I know, but I just bought the game this morning.
I was hoping for Freelancer style controls, but now I know a flightstick will be better.
The only thing missing now is a good beer helmet. :D

Edit: Found it

I hope it supports the Saitek X45

Though, I'm not sure about windows 8. I'll have to test when I get home. But if it works, and works with ED the better. I don't have the beta so I can't officially test. I'll try later to see how this goes.

Sharing Control profile: Joystick and G13

I've seen a few threads sharing people's control setups. I hadn't seen one quite like mine so I figured I would share it and the files to create it if you happen to have the same control scheme.

Logitech G13 Game Pad
Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick

My layout comes out like this:

One of the nice things here is that a lot of the controls on the G13 are still mapped to the default keystrokes. I can still use W and S on the keyboard for thrust adjustments and use L-Shift and 1-4 for UI menu selection if I'm doing something.

In order to recreate it there are a couple needed files:

The G13 Profile for Elite: Dangerous. Download the file and then import it into the Logitech Gaming Software: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bynp82bh8oz9u18/Elite-G13.xml

The Bindings in Elite: Dangerous. Download the file and then place it in your Bindings folder ( C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings ): https://www.dropbox.com/s/vevysiqevmw3ztw/EX3D-G13.binds

This is working well for me, though I suspect I'll add more as I go. Eventually I'd like to grab a better joystick but I'm not sure I want to replace the G13 by going full HOTAS.

Getting my controls comfortable has been the hardest thing for me as a new player so far, so I figured it would be good to share.

has anyone got a link to an x52 setup diagram or at least a picture telling me what button 53 does?

I can see whats bound to what in the config screen but I have no idea what button 52 or 47 or 22 are/is!

joystick or mouse

Hi all, I need some advice, been playing the beta for a few days now using mouse and keyboard but finding it difficult, would I be better off using a joystick for faster response and if so which is a good one for this game.

Tips for fighting with joystick?

Hello everyone!

Until today, i was playing Elite with Mouse+Keyboard, but I decided to buy a joystick with throttle command, because i was sucking on dogfighting and I read that it helped a lot.

For the classical navigation, it helps me a lot. I do manoeuvers a lot quicker and I really enjoy navigating with a joystick. The big problem is that, with mouse, I achieved to beat 3/4 of the solo campaign, and with the joystick, I'm not even able to do the mission against the other Sidewinder. The problem is that I can't figure out how to aim properly

So I was wondering if somebody had tips for me to fight better with a joystick.

Thanks in advance :)

It will come with practice :)

I presume you have yaw mapped to the twist axis, or some other control on the stick?

Also there may be software for your stick that enables you to tune the response curves, if (for example) it is too sensitive near the centre. This depends on the stick model and manufacturer though.

I agree with huwthomas- practice ;)
I'm in the same boat - recently got a joystick and it did take a while to get used to but i find it much more accurate - and fun -than keyboard mouse.

A couple of things I found worked -

Get used to the twist yaw, it feels pretty natural after you use it for awhile, and yawing is probably the best way to make minor corrections to your aim.

I prefer to use the keyboard for thruster controls as I found that the joystick can't handle 6dof by itself, and if you have both hands on the stick you can't access other functions easily - what I did was remap my thruster keys the keyboard so I can access them easily with my off-hand. (I use wasd for thrust and strafe with rf for vertical movement)

Buy VoiceAttack. I was pondering whether to do that, but darn are those 8 bucks worth it!

Using only a stick (and presumably keyboard) is quite the challenge. My first few attempts with only a JS (with around 10 binds on it) were a failure. Now I have all the utility binds attached to voice commands and I only use the stick for controlling the ship, as well as a couple of more things that are often used, such as Flight Assist on/off, and target enemy.

The rest is practice. But I do believe making it as comfortable for yourself as possible is a must. The stick is no use if you don't feel OK with the tenths, even hundreds of possible commands you might want to use to be good at the game.

After you practice enough and really start 'feeling' the stick, you might want to invest into a headtracking system. That's my next plan. At that point you will be able to look around freely and track targets with a lot more efficiency.

I still sometimes activate my mouse look, swap the joystick to my left hand, and look around in order to better understand what's going on around me. Gladly, I have left-hand training from War Thunder, where looking around and tracking targets meant everything almost always.

Forget voice attack or other gimmicky non-sense. Just test out and tinker around with your setup of your stick in windows itself and in the game. Besides that, practice, practice, practice to build up your muscle memory.
