Modes Elite Dangerous PvE vs PvP and who needs a Solo play if you had PvE server

I'm just annoyed that people still can't get it through their heads that what they find , fun, boring, fearful, exhilarating, etc, etc,etc does not mean everyone else feels the same way and they keep wanting to shoehorn everyone into their experience thinking we can't possibly enjoy a game otherwise.

Well, misconceptions and stereotypes abound on this subject, from both sides of the aisle.

When have PVErs tried to shoehorn PVPers into playing their way. PVERs have repeatedly and constantly asked again and again for PVPers to leave them alone... while many of us have asked for a Open PVE server. No one has screamed, "OPEN PVE ONLY!" Many, myself included, have bent over backwards to try and keep it where PVPers can have their fun and PVErs can have our fun.

I have no problem with PvP being an option, but it shouldn't be compulsory. People have differing personalities.

Cheers, Phos.

Oh no... they certainly have. To claim otherwise is just willful ignorance.

I've only seen it once when Jockey was joking and trying to make a point. I've seen some suggest confining PVP but not outright banning. But maybe I missed the thread.

Minor (but very important) correction: There are no misconceptions regarding how PvP players view those who strictly play PvE and giggle to themselves about how they "git gud" by effecting the BGS from solo mode.

That's not a correction. Vin's statement was "misconceptions and stereotypes abound on this subject, from both sides of the aisle". Which is correct. No correction needed.

Your statement is towards a specific activity. In a simular way I could make that reverse statement towards PvPers who engage in seal clubbing.

edit: thinking about it some more, it's ironic to stereotype how PvP players feel as a minor correction on EVE's point, so that I did enjoy :)

Which was itself a response to calls for either the removal of Solo and Private Groups or the removal of any effects of players in those modes on the BGS, Factions, PowerPlay, etc.:

Due to a small but vocal group of people who want to change how PG/Solo players play, i think its time for fair play and turnabout, so let's take a look at Open.

I have been trying to argue for PP to be done in open only, since with the current design its a dead horse anyway, so what worse that could already happen, make PP an exclusive PVP content.

Sure, but you can't have the Rank 3 module rewards then.
People who don't want to engage murderhobos shouldn't be truly forced into Open to get these modules.

Personally, I'd argue that it would have made more sense for PvE players to be enticed into PP by putting the actual current Merit mechanic into Open (so all system ownership changes are done in the Open mode), and then giving PvE players some kind of merit system of their own, where they provide CC at a hugely weighted ratio (1 CC from 10,000 merits, for example) for trading with/doing missions for the local power that the current PP faction wants to support, or they provide a very slow/small increase to fortification of their system by bounty hunting in that system.

Something more inclusive that would serve as a hook to get people into PP.
Then you can try and convince them later to move into Open for the other stuff, as they get more interested (is that even possible?) in the other parts of it.

No, because having Rank 3 means you need to undermine a system (kill 20 NPCS), you need to do it in enemy controlled system and if you do it in SOLO noone can stop you, this is lame (what we have right now).

Modules should never have been part pf PP to start with.
However, that being said I can see a use now, if the game would support an idea I had.

Make the modules locked to the power, so you can only use them if you are pledged to the power they come from.
Otherwise they default back to a default version of that module type. Until you sign up back to the power you got it from, then it's power version comes back online.

That would encourage people to stick with a power and fight to keep it active. Because if a power falls, all the modules connected to it stop as well ;)

this is lame.

So is ganking unarmed traders and explorers, but hey - cannot please everyone.
