Is there a docking request shortcut yet, or is it still 1-e-e-s-spacebar-s-spacebar-q-q-1

It could be worse. Imagine if we had to file a flight plan before we got permission to take off.

And if we are landing at a station that wasn’t on our flight plan, file more paperwork to explain why we deviated from the plan.

Really? When does it not? I use a macro and have done since the game was first released and since then the macro has never failed due to the station not being in the expected place.

not sure, we talk about 2 years here - oh even more

i think it was at rescue ships or engineers, something rare like that
dosnt appear often

Am I the only one that kinda like its? It's the one thing I'm a pro at in this game! Makes me feel like Neo typing all fast and doing things (might be the mechanical keyboard that adds to that effect :p )

OP. If you use voiceattack, you can add a command like this to automate your docking request.

Press 1 key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press E key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press E key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press Space key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press S key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press Space key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press Q key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press Q key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Pause 0.05 seconds
Press 1 key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release

Just make sure you are always on the Navigation tab first!

I've added extra commands in mine to divert pips to shields and automatically lower the landing gear after 5 seconds. Works like a charm.

What is so dramatically different in the PC version that this is such a chore, at least to the extent that people are talking about setting up macros or using other third party tools?

The menu pops up with I look at it, so no clicking yet

First click: RB (tabs from Navigation to Transactions)
Second click: RB (tabs from Transactions to Contacts)
Third click: A (selects station)
Fourth click: Down (Dpad - highlights "request docking")
Fifth click: A

That's it. Five clicks, which appears to be half of what the OP is doing.

Yep, Voice Attack

"Request Docking"

Done

I considered getting Voice Attack but setting it up so I have to say "Docking control, this is Lakon two kilo alpha requesting docking permission, over"

Then I thought, I still say all of that when Selecting the docking request manually, so why would I need voice attack? Besides, it probably wouldn't know how to pronounce "Lakon", no-one does.

if you take a closer look at the op's post he does almost the same as you, just with returning back to the first tab.

Sometimes you need to spell things out phonetically in Voice Attack. I use it (including for docking), and whilst at first I'd roleplay a bit and wait until the flight controller had spoken, and respond, these days I usually just say it when I'm range (or just before, so that I'm in range when it's finished). Voice Attack's a very handy program in VR, although I used it before I got a headset. Pip management is one thing, so I don't have to move my hands to change pips, "sys", "eng", "wep" for one pip, "full sys" etc. for all (just make VA press the button several times) and "reset". A throttle with enough buttons would probably be a better choice though, quicker to react.
