Codex, TDW: "... only when a suitable test of courage and skill has been discreetly administred and passed."
An entire paragraph telling how TRDW is supposed to recruit. Sort of personal journey.
Might not be written for nothing.
Makes me think of some kind of reputation related thing. Tip off, chained missions...
But not only wit the Shinrarta TDW.

I was thinking the same. It also says something about that TDW gives tasks to exceptional pilots without revealing themself. Maybe the Raxxla missions are still in game, they are now just hidden as a chain of tip-off missions.

Strange coincidence: I am reading right now a chapter in "Mutabilis" that is describing above quoted sentence and comment.

Maybe nothing less than triple elite to start with?

My operating theory is this: We know where the DW watches. CQC Arena (for finding potential unique pilots), Shinrarta (because of their front), Pilots Federation (to keep tabs on all pilots data and Elite ranks), etc.

My thoughts goes like this:
The DW's base is in Polaris, orbiting the 8th moon of that systems gas giant. Polaris is far enough from the bubble to remain undetected to the casual traveler, yet close enough to keep tabs on everything. Polaris has lore significance as well (the Thargoid station).
The Polaris Permit MIGHT be in-game, but is hard to acquire. The "secret test" MIGHT involve getting as much of the DW's attention as possible. This involves getting to, at least, triple Elite as a step (CQC Elite could very well be needed too), as well as becoming allied to the DW faction in Shinrarta. What else might be needed i can't guess, but if the Polaris permit is accessible, its likely that the DW is what gives it.
Additionally the Black Flight is likely connected as well. Their reach extends as far as Colonia after all!

To pile on top of all of this, theres what is currently happening with the Gnosis: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/The_Gnosis.
To quote: "On December 3, 3304, The Gnosis received a request for assistance and the command crew began calculating a course change. The message was published on December 7, with both the identity of its sender and the new destination redacted. The Gnosis will jump from MEL 22 Sector TB-J b10-0 to the unidentified system on January 17, 3305."
I smell Club shenanigans.

Ironically thinking along those same lines...

Its extremely likely the older DW missions were just this, those got dropped for an undisclosed reason / possible bugged following an update. FD never confirmed directly what happened only something was in game...

I feel people were getting too close; FD underestimated peoples skill levels and they moved the goal posts.

The codex entry is for me confirmation those missions are back in the game. Where/when/how is the big question.

Maybe you need to be quadruple Elite and allied with certain factions and wait for tip-off missions....

Find the DW station and obtain some interesting new info....possibly around Raxxla?

Who knows...except finally it now gives me the objective for attainment of Elite rank. I've held off grinding this since day one...tacking my time.

Now there IS a reason to obtain this moniker.

Good show FD.

Mmmmh... 4E ?
I am not coming back to ED for such a burden...
Might aswell require all the Guardian blueprints and patterns, all the different Tharg stuff and mats onboard and all the EDSM badges, all the PP weapons and... a night passed with the Princess.. [haha] (For the 5E. I bet she is a TDW brass !)
Btw, afaik we never commented if the PP pledges could have something to do ?

And yes, as I stated many times about the disappearance of the E/F missions: it's Macros fault !

Surely it wouldn't require 4x Elite. That would lock off a significant portion of the playerbase

I'm banking on Raxxla being in Polaris, or at least the actual way to reach it starting there, and it's staying locked up tight until FDev decides to open it. I'm also guessing there will be a few events in the coming months that lead to the unveiling of a new expansion pack whose content is accessed through the Raxxla gate, and once it releases, The way to earn the permit will be added and Polaris will be open for business

Oh I concur. I would much rather it be the correct; triple Elite.

But I wouldn't put it past them to force that on us, they still insist on showing that fourth carbuncle on our heads-up. Seriously if I could I'd jam a spoon down the flight decks holo emitter and scratch out that fourth icon. No way I'm wasting my time on that without solid proof first.

Think its solid to state that triple Elite is elite.

Fully allied with Life Science Expedition; unfortunately, nothing triggered.

But at least they are happy to have a CMDR like me when I request dock 😂

Alrighty just logging in after patch. Are we seriously saying no one has tried triangulating those stars seen in the Start menu screen (with the rotating station).

Didn't some Cmdr uncover the Guardians doing just that from a trailer...

Really Horizons there's a 'darkened station' (Dark Wheel). Within non Horizons its a different system and a close proximity station (Raxxla gateway).

Trigonometry is not my strong point.

That's exactly what Jorki has been trying to do for some time. I've put some time into it myself, but gotten distracted with something else. There are plenty of Jorki's posts about this, but there have been several pages of stuff since the more important ones.

The answer's been in front of us this whole time!

Bravo - I have always wondered about those images. Have you the link to source, be interesting reading.

Ah sorry, misread your post. It's actually the view from the start video that we've been looking for. In that, we know for certain where Barnard's Loop and Witchhead are, but trying to find where the other stars in the view are. Jorki is convinced that the image is a view from the correct system, or that the bright yellow star between the horns is the right system.

As for the menu view, that's been bright up several times as well. I don't know if anyone got anywhere, but there isn't much to go on. Personally, I think that one is actually just a composite showing assets that were added in horizons.

I have two current tip off missions. Both systems are on the very fringes of the human bubble. I have images from the first site. It was not a crashed ship, but a planetary base those you have to scan for some wetwork/assisination missions etc.

Strangely one of the missions was from before 3.3 and pointed at a location in the Pleiades, but now the text has changed and it points elsewhere.

The Guardians trailer had identifiable galactic objects in the trailer images (The Pleiades Nebula and Andromeda, IIRC). That’s what allowed the triangulation. There’s nothing like that in the Start screens. Without something distinct to triangulate from it’s down to skybox matching. I’m not an expert at skybox matching, but there doesn’t seem to be enough to go off to do that either.

Stand corrected - apologies for post, twas combination of a winter cold and half an hour waiting for patch to load.

Agreed about the loading screen, was out there some time ago searching for very faint dark regions (there's a few). The loop is our strongest contender.

Toast/poem I still think don't direct to a point in space (Rift) but draws the attention to an area, around Orion and the loop?

Hard to focus with so many competing theories I'm used to analysis of patterns from evidence not compiling evidence.

On route back to loop after ruling out Dumbbell nebula. Going to continue searching the loop.

Constancy ladies and gents. I'm too prone to tin-foilery.

I've devised and completed an extensive theorized set of checkpoints/tests based on my interpretation of the riddle and its clues. I'm back in the bubble after completing them all and handing in my data and am going to see if it's worked to make any sort of contact with DW or its mysterious contacts. I'll be keeping an eye out for "golden opportunities", odd jobs and clues to potentially connected scenarios to see if it has actually worked. If it did than I will make the list public shortly after. If it doesn't work than I am utterly lost for the time being and I will also make it public. o7

There isn’t anything unique (e.g. nebulae, O types) in the two start menu screenshots, otherwise I would have found them by now. The only way to triangulate these few stars would be to code something like http://ancs.eng.buffalo.edu/pdf/ancs_papers/2006/star_id06.pdf and run it against all the known star positions (available from eddb.io).

It would likely not be definitive with so few stars in the images, but would give you some search areas. I’m no coder so if anyone would like to have a go then please let me know!

I’ve been out in the black searching star patterns for around two months now, seen some nice sights & found a few biologicals & geological signatures since the fss appeared in my Asp, but haven’t got time to explore those. What I really need is a cockpit hud overlay to get the angular distances between stars & a means to transfer those into galmap. There have been so many times that I can see things from the cockpit but I can’t identify them in the galmap.....it’s extremely frustrating!!!!! :O:O
