assuming they're not keen on having to use the FSS mechanics.
You're right of course. Instead it's
1)Honk.
2)Open FSS and look at what peaks are in the spectrum.
3)Pick any interesting peak.
4)Tune it and zoom in.
5)If any are really interesting fly there and map 'em.
Overall you actually waste less time checking out systems that are nothing but "red beans and rice"

If a group of coders can sit round a table and draw up a system like the FSS and DSS and think they've delivered something good then it doesn't bode well for future updates - especially as future updates will be paid.
With the caveat that you have to park your ship and muck around in the FSS first to determine whether or not a system is more interesting than "red beans and rice." Personally, I'm more of a lentils and barley sort of guy, but to each their own.
So far it looks like the old system if you were using the basic scanner except it now picks up all stars in the system.
Different from the way it way granted but no where near as dramatic as some explorers make it out to be.

Scroll through the spectral analysis look at the description in the lower right corner of the screen stop when you spot the earth like zoom in and bob's your uncle.
Not a lot of mucking about when you know how it works.

Dont get me wrong, I am very pleased with the new system and consider it miles above what we had. But it is important make sure we're all on the same page: those people complaining they can't do what they want to do ain't wrong. We may disagree, but they are factually correct about their style not working any more.
With the greatest of respect, but I suspect you've missed out on a lot of discussions. The issue is not finding ELWs and such. The issue is that some explorers are looking for different things; specific constellations, patterns etc. You need to use the FSS to uncover that, while previously they could use the system map immediately after honking. I myself am into finding ruins, abandones bases, shipwrecks and all that Star Trek stuff, so the new system is wonderful for me. For some others not so much for multiple, different, reasons.
Personally I think they are just looking for excuses to get back the single honk and run approach to exploration
With experience of the FSS you soon pick up the type of system from the signals available in the spectral analysis. Problem is it's something new to learn and certain people just can't be bothered. So instead they just knock it and cry on the forum that the new system is bad.
For me, and as things are now in the game, I would prefer black bodies over the comparatively full reveal functionality of the ADS. I rather like flying my spaceships around and being able to explore and discover things traveling around in the galaxy and systems seems rather compelling to me.
Black bodies would provide enough of an overview to help distinguish one system from the next, but still hold enough mystery to make the discovery process engaging.
In other words you're upset they made it easier instead of harder. You'd rather that the stuff FD has put in the game never got discovered than that a peasant like me could stumble across something interesting...

See the post again, and sorry for the late edits. I don't have a problem with the FSS and think it's a rather useful tool in the tool box. I'd just prefer some other options.
Hey S.B.
Okay, this is going nowhere. Can you upload a video where you do the following.
1) Enter a system. Wait for the auto-resolve.
2) Enter system map, show there is nothing,
3) Honk.
4) Re-enter system map and show it is all there.
Thanks. Also, something is up with your decimal points. What distance do you mean? 1500 LY?
This is the issue. It isn't optional, you do it their way unless you want a blank SysMap.More options are good, I like options.
Nailed it
