If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

I'd like to know and understand and encourage you to work in a constructive way:
- What are your goals you want to achieve or did previously achive and you think the FSS is not suitable for you or interferes with the way you are were doing things?

I went out of the bubble only for two expeditions, one was a rather short one to get a feeling for it and the second one took some time and made me Elite when coming back to my Homebase in Ruganike.
My goal was to find unexplored systems and catalogue them, I never went only for ELW's or WW's, Wolf Rayet's and so on, I tried to catalogue every system I went in, even the utter worthless ones. One I found had over 100 (~120, IIRC) planets , moons and rocks in it, I catalogued them all. Even with the ADS that took me hours.

- Which part does spoil the fun which you previously had with the ADS?

If you can't use your hands/fingers to their full extent, tuning the radio is pain. Literally!
ADS wasn't, well, at least for me. The radio tuning effectively killed the only thing I really wanted to do in ED, which is exploration.

- How would you improve the FSS/DSS mechanic to make it better usable for you (please try to find a different solution than to revert the change or try to introduce some parallel ADS mechanic)

Well, IMHO if FSS is the solution for the problem I would rather have the problem back, as a solution so to speak. But that's just me, If others like FSS it's fine with me.

Mohrgan, the objections you raise have been discussed before, I'd appreciate it if you would take the time to find a rebuttal and refute that.

As an alternative if you could justify your position on varying payouts it would be helpful. None of my posts have been about the money, nor have they been about this taking priority over any other problem. I do consider it to be both important and urgent though.

I don't know what you want me to rebut. I thought that losing a module slot and some credits to revert back to the old system seemed plausible. Except if you want me to expound on the issues I think should be in front of any exploration revision.

In reverting to the ADS/DSS system of old, everything should revert. That brought me to consider the DSS, going back to the old Honk system should revert the DSS. The ADS + DSS should respond just as they did before Ch 4. Meaning no mapping, just detailed scans. Which, in turn brought me to payouts. As I took it, payouts were increased to compensate for the extra time the new system might take. So, it's logical, that without the extra effort, there's no need for extra pay.

Why? Why the need to switch one thing off so the other can work? They both already work together just fine in any system that has been previously tagged by another player but is new to you. This can be tested in the game by any player.

I'd say it would be a very risky move. I can only speak for myself, but without speaking out that silly threat of leaving the game (I'm actually not sure what I would do in this case), I'd very much feel **** off if it comes back in any form. Regardless of changing the FSS or not. I've just given up explaining why, I'd rather try to convince the pope to wear Bermuda shorts. I also don't consider myself special in any way, so there is that...

As a matter of interest... Why exactly? Can you tell me why you'd be urined-off if I was using the old way and you were using the new way? How does it change your game?

You have a point picommander, there may be many players like you that cannot bear the thought that such a module could exist in the game. In these discussions over the past several months (the new process was announced in September IIRC) I believe you are the only one to have stated the position you hold but there may be more.

It is a shame that no common ground can be found for you.

Because I see the FSS and the ADS as mutually exclusive, considering how much overlap the FSS has with the old DSS, I don't see using half of one system, and half of another. Not only because that seems overly selfserving.

Have you seen how it works in the live game? Because I can confirm that it works, and you can confirm this yourself. I think your suggestion, as with StuartGT's black body proposal from before the release of 3.3 is based on out of date information.

The complete functionality of the ADS is still in the game for any system that has already been tagged. There is no need to nerf anything to put the ADS back in.

Theres no need to put the ADS back in at all.

And now you are downright lying. Either that or you simply have too many posters in your ignore bin. I've already seen voices that were very disappointed even over this existing compromise regarding the bubble, something I never did btw but I could start doing it if that's not enough for you.

Fair point, I did not give enough benefit of the doubt. I've amended my post.

ETA picommander if you'd like to post links to any threads or specific posts you have in mind I'd appreciate it. It may be that those objectors will want to state their argument to have that change reversed.

Here's a video showing me entering a system that has previously been fully explored & tagged by other players, but is new to me:

As you can see I was able to both target the [unexplored] bodies and hunt for signatures in the FSS Scanner Screen. I was able to resolve a body in the FSS and fly past another, resolving it at speed.

There is no conflict between the old & new modules, I'd simply like to have this same functionality in undiscovered (or partially discovered) systems by fitting an optional ADS module just as it was pre-3.3.

Nothing complicated, nothing taken away from the new system, no reason not to do it other than the time it would take to implement. Unlike a new feature request or correcting a bug no investigation is required, the functionality and compatibility are fully understood by the devs.

You're bringing coals to Newcastle here. Again and yet again you are talking about a 'conflict' between the old and the new method that only shows to me that you're either not able or just not willing to get what I'm talking about. And now you're asking me to browse hundreds of posts from several threads about people that probably have changed their mind by now - are you still serious?

I'm after going back a few pages where you posted your age and hate of the ADS and love of the new FSS.

Firstly, I'm glad you like it. Seriously. If that's what floats your boat, hoist sails and fair winds.

What I'm not understanding (maybe my age too) is what is so bad about giving players the options to have either the ADS which disables the FSS or the FSS which disables any ADS?

For transparency, I'm no 'explorer' and really couldn't care less. I'll use the FSS to find G5 materials and it can waste away otherwise. I just don't like 2D screens in VR it totally breaks my gameplay. But I'm realistic enough to understand that some might love it and hence it should stay. Also realistic to accept that some hate it and should have options. I love the new mining, even if it does make mining lasers obsolete :)

He's not the only one that doesn't get it.

If they added the ADS back into the game now, I honestly wouldn't even notice. I don't understand why anyone who uses the FSS would notice or have any issue with others using the ADS and fly-bys to do their scanning.
