I have played the game for ages - but I have never killed a Thargoid. It just doesn’t appeal to me.
However, since killing Scouts gives you the fastest combat rank increase I am going to begin.
So - is the Challenger considered as one of the best ships for Scout hunting?
Edit: @Factabulous Does that mean we repelled all the attacks of this week?
I'm the noob here. I struggled with the berserker, regenerater raid at the first time but I got used to it in a couple of hours, now I can handle 6 scouts without taking any damage with my Challanger. And I believe I could do so much better if I took 3x AX MC's instead of Gauss'. Because I'm terrible at aiming those

IMHO Krait or Py are better... corvette is best for me![]()
@Assimilator1; That's really a nice Python, I might copy thatI just don't get why you didn't use Guardian MRP instead. But I like the idea of having a AX dedicated ship (lore says so), that has a good agility and tankyness, I'm kind of a RP sucker here, don't really care about the numbers unless the difference is too big. I'm currently running this, I'll ditch the SDFN for another shield booster when I'm not feeling lazy (too many jumps). And maybe switch to size 2 cargo rack and size 3 MRP. Also with the reasons said above, I'm thinking of using the same ship for bigger bugs, with this build, not really sure with the weapons though, especially small hardpoints.
Krait’s hardpoints are great. I was so tempted to buy it instead of Challanger. But I don’t like its old design and it has lesser armour (which I think I wouldn’t need because of the 3xL firepowerThanks, I don't have Guardian MRPs or (no Guardian HRPs?) unlocked, and I really can't be bothered to unlock them for the very modest 15% higher integrity vs the 3D MRP, but I would definitely fit them if I had them!
.
Re my Python, I'm thinking of swapping the reinforced alloy armour (which btw mine has legacy engineering better than current) for military, whilst it would give ~400 HP, it slows it down a touch (it could do with being faster not slower!) & loses nearly 1 LY jump range, but the main kicker is it adds 1.4 mill to the rebuy cost!. It would also slow down manoeuvrability too, although I haven't looked into how much.
The other tweak I'm pondering is swapping the 5D MRP for an HRP, I don't know if this would compromise module integrity too much though, especially seeing as I ditched the AFMU!
I like the Challenger (particularly the weapon slot quantity) & your builds, although with your 2nd one I'd ditch the xeno scanner for another shld booster, you'll need it with the big bugs!
Pity the challengers max throttle speed is somewhat low. For a medium ship build, starting from scratch I'd be torn between the Krait & Challenger!
Well, if you can take on 6 Scouts without taking damage you are officially no longer a noob [up].
Speaking of the Corvette are two huge beam lasers effective on the Scouts?
I know two huge multi-cannons are probably the most popular on the Corvette - but I have so many ships with multi-cannons and it’s perhaps time to do something different [yesnod].
* Infested and Infested systems can be seen in the Galmap left panel. Sometimes the system also switches allegiance to the Thargoids (not always). It's worth checking a system is still Infested / Incursed before travel, as they change through the week.
From the OP:
While I think one Infested should actually be Incursion, I would like to ask:
Can I see infestation on the Galmap, or do I have to travel there and look for USS?
In the latter case, this section of the OP should be edited accordingly.
Edit: Independent from my above question, Muracing still appears to be well infested. The new USS/Exploration mechanics makes finding a good USS much quicker.
* Infested and Incursed systems can often be seen in the Galmap left panel. Sometimes the system also switches allegiance to the Thargoids (not always). It's worth checking a system is still Infested / Incursed before travel, as they change through the week. Sometimes the Galmap does not show the correct states, but systems targeted by Eagle Eye should still be targets. Unless that is broken ...
Thanks, it took me 2 rereads to spot the double infested, proof-reading your own work is hard
To answer your question: infestations were found via Eagle Eye and then confirmed by checking for NHSS in systems. In previous weeks we have looked in the galmap for infestations, but (like this week) it can be bugged, so we only did that the week that Eagle Eye was broken.
I updated the FP with current knowledge, but it quickly descends into a rathole as there are multiple ways it has been broken:
* Galmap sometimes shows Thargoid allegiiance, sometimes not
* Galmap sometimes shows infested / incursioned - sometimes not
* Eagle Eye usually gives new targets, except when it's been broken
Working out which is true is in many ways why we keep this thread going - so while it's nice to be transparent about stuff being worked out in the background I think in this case it may not be worth writing down ... I'll have a think on it![]()
Maybe a completely dumb question... why isn't this Thread a sticky yet? God knows, the lack of activity in the Stickies at the moment is a bit depressing... it's the only thing updating with anything new these days.
mine had two gimbal efficent thermal vent beams in the huge slots.. and it worked pretty well against scouts.
no ammo issues, no heat issues
and the best - the corvette has internal slots that you can use class7 repair limpet controller for self repairs, and a much smaller decon limpet controller to get rid of the gunk on your hull.
the only bad thing about this is - neither the repair nor the decon limpet controller allows engineering for the lightweight mod
(so mine only uses a class 5 repair and the class7 spare slot is class 7 collector g5 lightweight)
if you already have crew, or don't fear multicrew -> slf bay with two guardian fighters is also pretty helpfull in getting scouts down fast (though, combat rank gains is divided)
