I wonder if Michael belongs to the Children of Tothos too. Today on Archambault Terminal we are meditating on magical syllables and numbers derived from demons, trees, and indecipherable sentences. People on old Earth had so many languages, today most of them are used for advocating tourism. 252. I have performed a ritual washing with yet another bottle of Water of Shintara, carbonated, and had a moment of relief from my recent duties for contemplation. Having survived both Titan's Daughter and the Gnosis, there perhaps could be a small chance of survival in this trial also. Moments like these are often interrupted by booming echoes of explosions near the perimeter of the station, or singalongs to ancient hymns from old Earth, believed to hold potent symbolism. Solitary candle in the Villa of Ormen? I don't understand what these words mean. I am told having been familiar with this method of thinking in a previous digital reincarnation, and that I'm being directed to yet another world of dust storms, non-linearity and starvation.

I was on the Gnosis when it was attacked. Keeping parked on the station when offline now because if it does go boom I don’t wanna miss out on the EDSM badge :p

Some additional context to back up my early findings.

https://www.gradesaver.com/astrophil-and-stella

‘Astrophel and Stella 108 sonnets and 11 songs, "Sonnet cycles" were so named because they incorporated linked sonnets that generally described the progressive rise and fall of a love relationship. In other word’s an inferred plot.’

‘Sidney's sonnet sequence also exhibits clear references to Homeric epic, particularly Homer's Penelope.’

‘Some scholars have suggested that the 108 sonnets in the sequence represent the 108 suitors of Penelope, who play a game of striving to hit the Penelope stone in order to determine who can court her.’

This bit is interesting…

‘The 119 poems are also just one number short of the number of months Ulysses spent trying to return home to Penelope in The Odyssey. The structure of the sonnet sequence, falling one month short of achieving Ulysses's journey home, can be seen as an emphasis on Sidney's failure in his pursuit of his own Penelope.’

And here kind of backs up the theory we shouldn't take the text literally as romantic prose...

‘It is generally accepted that the Stella of the poems is Penelope Devereux, later Lady Rich, and that Astrophel (Astrophil) is Sidney himself.’ - 'Critics disagree, however, on whether Sidney's love for Penelope is real or merely literary.’

‘First of all the title is made up of one name of Greek origin and one name of Latin origin: a clear disjunction. The presence of the grammatical copula "and" suggests that the two are a couple (such as "Tristan and Isolde" or "Romeo and Juliet"), which readers immediately realize is not the case. Even the names themselves, meaning "star-lover" and "star," describes a separation between the two: there will always be distance between the stars and those who love them.’

Scheria was where Ulysses was prior to returning home, but Scheria is a mythical location not actual (a place that isn't a place)?

And we go deeper...

Taking the lead of Scheria I began reading 'Islands in the sky'.

https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=MbcwBwAAQBAJ&pg=PA251&lpg=PA251&dq=Scheria+in+stars&source=bl&ots=t7EQEGn4rm&sig=ACfU3U049IAPgP_QwqRg7OpnecCg76OAjA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwig_Nj9-IbhAhX5UhUIHYvDA6wQ6AEwEXoECAoQAQ#v=onepage&q=Scheria%20in%20stars&f=false

Some very compelling points, a detailed road map written in the night sky it also mentions the Omphalos and concludes Scheria as the 'shield on the water' the centre, the Omphalos....

I feel an answer lies within this text...

Right, Pa.
I was talking only of what we are sure it is canon in ED.
Which is the gameplay, GalNet and the Codex.
RH's TDW is not, iirc.

Holdstock's The Darkwheel is 'canonish'. Makes it hard to sort out. It's definitely the heart of Elite even if it's only the heart in my own opinion ;)

I have found something strange.

There is a HIP system outside of the Bubble (though not terribly far out) that is not showing discovery or mapped tags, including my own. Having both discovered and mapped dozens of HIP stars and planets, this is not normal. The only places I've seen that prevent tags are places inside the Bubble, like Sol.

Could this mean this system is important, or is this just a bug I don't know about?

Could it be that it’s just no one has been there yet? It’s really rare but last year I came across a system in bubble that was unclaimed. Map it, turn in your data and then check it out the system map again.
But as you say could also be a problem with the game itself. I went to the thargoid base in Aries Dark Region DB-X D-3 yesterday and visited the base after coming across the abandoned survey vessel “Victoria’s Song” that was attacked by the Black Flight. But the system where he Thargoid base is isn’t marked as being a Thargoid civilization on the GalMap like the others are.

I'm not that stupid, LOL. You apparently missed "including my own", and planets don't show up in the system map untagged before discovery, thanks to the new "fog of war" game mechanic (which I love, BTW).

That’s true. Hmm. If you can get a system name I’ll try and look at it under my account later and see if I get the same result.
Something off the topic to add but just crossed my mind. Soontill (Which doesn’t appear to be the soontill we have in game, seems the actual one is yet to be found by us) was said to be obscured in a “space fog” which made it hard to find. Now that we have Lagrange clouds, could it be that Raxxla is hidden away in one of those? Would be interesting.

Ra ( system Ra ) xx ( Roman Numerals =20 ) La ( Lagrange cloud )? This went through my mind last night. I also thought Ra might mean Right Ascension but there is not enough numerical data. The system Ra was interesting and Rahas ( related to Ra ) came up with nothing. I read ( again ) the Dark Wheel Novella buy Rob Holstock ( a wonderful story from my childhood ) this morning, noted all characters and places mentioned. We also did a data dump ( live on youtube ) a while back looking for all systems ( 2048 of them ) from the original game that are in E.D. There were not many but Ra was in there.

Question: is everyone here allied with the Dark Wheel faction? Also, anyone regularly run tourist missions for them? You never know, maybe one of their VIP "tourists" will take us somewhere interesting! I might try this myself.

I keep meaning to do tourist stuff. There are odd groups in the middle of nowhere with weird names that only take tourist missions. Like in ngc 1333 with, "The Associates." I think there is nother tourist group in orion nebula in the space hotdog sticking out of it in it's single stations. There are odd stations in odd ngc and other space structures that have possibly unique groups in them. The orion one is a group called something like, "Orion space tourism group." I don't think they are just tourism though. I think they are the main group and take space data as that is why the station is convenient if you explore the orion nebula hotdog.

I am maxed out with the dark wheel in sinatra, but I have never done anything with them after dumping space data on them.

One day I will get my anaconda as a tourist ship and go back to ngc 1333 and max them out. They are one of only two groups there. The main is a mining guild I think and takes space data. The associates are the secondary and only take tourists missions. It is where I found out if you do all donations to the main gruop and there are no missions left for any group you get an error message that says it cant' access the server. This is because there are no missions to access the server wtih. Also the main group takes donatinos constantly and you can buy them out also. I wonder if you can flip them and originall the associates were the main. Maybe if you make them the main again you can get something special. Haven't played with it yet. Obvsiouly donation missions would get the other group ownership over time. Like a switch of statistical inevitability. It's a bit fishy actually and it still sticks out ot me to this day. I need to work on them when I actually finish my other stuff.

If anyone wants to give it a try. Load up a good tourism ship with all business or the one above it modules and go run missions for them. It's in one of the stars next to the nebula. (not california nebula. The small cloud in the ngc 1333 hotdog.)

There are other locations farther out of the bubble with weird potential single system existence. Usually located in asteroid bases.

Yes, I’m allied with them. Not run any missions for them for while but I remember an Elite tourist mission (about 7 businessmen) last Autumn from SD to a nearby tourist system about 13ly away, can’t remember the system name. Got several million Cr for 10 minutes run and an elite assassination mission as a follow-on. Didnt take it for roleplay (& rheumatism) reasons but did wonder if it was a recruitment test.
