Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

People have different needs when comes to space sims, apparently. Some need to do as little flying as possible. :D

If you've convinced yourself it is bad, why play it? :)

(not you, but those to whom you refer)

That's why I like this subforum. Folks posting here seem to actually like Elite.

As to what I am up to.... Last night I winged up with some friends for some hunting. We shredded a CNB, killing oodles of dastardly criminals. Lots of fun, great money. But oh my goodness, why did FD have to split the XP? I'll digress or I may convince myself it is bad. The road to combat Elite is a lonely one.

I netted another 35 million mining void opals yesterday. I lost some credits though due a weird bug where the void opals that I break loose with the abrasion blaster sometimes get to close to the asteroid from whence they came, and my limpets can't collect them (the die in the process by running into the asteroid). and I can't scoop them manually because they are too close to the rock. So they expire, and that is a big pile of lost credits.

I definitely need to refine my technique some more. I have yet to come close to filling up my cargo hold during a 90 minute session. I usually come away with 20-30 void opals before I either run out of time, or run out of limpets.

Agreed.

As for splitting XP - well, it makes sense, I think. We used to split bounties, too, but Fdev changed it. Killing an Elite pilot requires certain amount of skill, if you do it alone, if you do it in a group, the amount of firepower decreases the amount of danger and skill needed. Technically you don't learn as much as you'd learned in 1v1 combat, either. :)

Up to?

I'm trippin down Memory Lane trying to find the coolest spaceship I can remember. My all time favorite is still the Eagle (can I plz have one in ED?)

As a runner up, I've always been fascinated by Chris Foss' concept for Leviathan in Alien

No wonder I'm one of those who think the Red/White color scheme of Zorgon Peterson is spot on :)

Even if it makes sense, I still don't like it. Bounties aren't split (any longer) but XP is? It's arbitrary, and it nerfs the one that's far harder to achieve. Money's the easiest thing to get in Elite. Split that, but give me my XP!

And besides, why have a mechanic that discourages cooperative play? Bah, salt.

Still love the game, but I have lots of solo combat in my future if I want to advance combat rank (and I do)

I used this quote in a different thread yesterday, so at the risk of repeating myself...

"The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph" -- Thomas Paine

Red/white and red/black color schemes are my favourite.
I've got a red and white stripy paintjob on my T6. Very Fossian.

Well, in light of that quote, you must understand why it is the way it is.
To paraphrase it - "The harder the conflict, the more glorious the XP gainz" :p

Edit: Sorry for double post. My button identification skills suck. :D

If we're going down that road, I'll take Thunderbird 2, then The Liberator, then Babylon 5. Ok, so technically B5 is a station and would need an enormous landing pad...

T2 comes readily fitted with an SRV bay (or fighter hangar) and The Liberator has three obvious huge hard points.

All natural fits for the EDverse :D

I'll take the Liberator with three ginormous beams.

A Liberator style ship in ED would be great.

T2 will have to wait for atmospheric landings as it couldn't reach orbit despite what the awful Johnathan Frakes movie said.

They did a Liberator varient back in Frontier Elite II one of the Imperial ships.

I was thinking about the Thunderbird 2 as well, but then I read that it's max altitude was 100,000 feet, which makes it only borderline spaceship ;) On the other hand Elvira et al might be able to make a few upgrades. Thunderbirds had a spaceship (rocket), the T1, but the T2 was way more cool!

Speaking of T2 and still with minor connection to the thread, how about this for a hardpoint? Misiles equipped with misiles/rockets [yesnod]

@FDev: You can add those to my wishlist!
