I would love this, if only for vanity shots. They're offering up these paints, but we can't see them. I hesitate to buy them because of that. I absolutely agree that ext view should be locked out of combat.

I agree it would be nice to have an external view for vanity shots and to just get a good look at your ship, but flight and combat should absolutely stay 100% 1st person. Elite is all about the immersion of believing you're in the ship, flying with an external view would fundamentally change the feel of the game (for the worse).

Maybe we need a new career path: the space paparazzo!
For a price, the gracious Commander will follow you with a ship equipped with lot of fancy cameras. His great experience will enable taking amazing shots with a starfield backdrop. He'll know the best scenic places, will catch the exact moment you'll fire your boosters, and will make even the lamest docking show up as a majestic performance.
For an even bigger price, he'll follow you in combat too.

Photo mission will fail if destroyed.

You play as a human pilot, not a ghost or a wizard. I personally like the idea of trying to enforce a sense of reality in-game.

Ok, i assume in "reality" a space pilot can grab his Space Walk suite and get out of his ship to look at. So than, i want this!

And if you don't like it, as it breaks your imagination of being a space pilot,
you can simply not use this function of a outside camera.
(And this answer is less stupid as "then play an other game if you don't like a certain point at this one.")

Proposed the same about 100 pages back. Unfotunately, the OP is extremely biased towards implementing real-time first camera views and doesn't update his thread in a neutral manner.

Imho it's the only viable solution. Realtime 3rd person is gamebreaking.

I don't see it as gamebreaking. There are plenty of ways to do 3rd person that do not give an advantage.

But I also don't care one whit about whether it gets put in or not.

I do however wish that everyone would get their knickers out of a twist and move on with their lives seeing as they can't approach the issue objectively. The time that has been wasted in this thread is obscene.

If you can wait for the necessary expansion, "than" you will be able to don your "suite" and do just that. Read the DDA docs.

No thanks. I'll continue to play the game without the third-person magic floaty cam, as the developers have implied (vaguely, I'll admit) that such a feature is incompatible with their own vision of the game.

The drone camera mechanic as proposed by the development team makes sense within the reality of the game. Plus, it offers gameplay benefits, such as the possibility of spy missions. Seems a no-brainer to me that it's the better choice.

I would respectfully disagree with the bit outside the quotation marks. If you're going to "quote" me, at least quote the content accurately. I successfully managed to type coherent sentences with the appropriate grammar and spelling.

Perhaps I didn't make my point clear enough. There is so much that is (and will be) a part of this game. Threatening to jump ship before launch in some sort of tantrum would appear to me to be akin to cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. Hence the facetiously curt nature of my response.

Stopped following the thread after the first three times it repeated itself, but left enough posts corrobotrating the fact that real-time third person is in fact gamebreaking.

It could be implemented in a non-game-breaking manner (like a fixed third person camera located 1" behind the ships exhaust, rebndering the ship uncontrolable), but then it wouldn't serve the purpose of having a the opportunity to create magnificent videos.

Therefore, I'd consider Post-Hoc 3rd person as the most viable option.

Request; External Cam; looking behind

Hey all,

I have a humble request. I would like to be able to look around the craft from the exterior, like a remote external ship camera, etc. One that would also enable me to see behind me. I had a ship full of cargo the other day and was attacked in Super Cruise, fell out of warp, was being shot, and never saw him. No rear view, etc. Just being shot up and lost my ship and cargo.

In X3 Terran Conflict, we could see external views, enemy view, etc. That would be a nice feature.

A humble idea.

X-Plane flight sim has an elegant solution in that after you have landed you can go back through your flight as far as has been recorded. I imagine there are limitations on memory allocation for the video stream.

You can then fly around the aircraft with a fly around camera view looking at all angles. If a similar system is adopted in Elite it would keep the immersion of cockpit only in game, while allowing a pilot to view after flight was over. Perhaps only allowing outside video when landed.

That would be a useful feature. There's been a number of times I've had "whoah, where did he come from?", or "how did he do that?" moments. And with a "review" feature I'd be able to go back and revisit those moments to work it out :)

However, I would say a lot of people wanting an external view want it to better see current events, so personally I'd put them as pretty different requirements.

PLEASE give us 3rd person view...

I dont want an combat able 3rd person with crosshairs like war thunder....

BUT there is an amazing amound of damage modeling going on the player itself cant see anything

i have an amazing video of the anaconda damage model

we realy realy need an 3rd person view just to view your ship in roidbelts or other diffrent locations:D

3rd person wont be a feature, BUT! FD are looking into implementing a 3rd person camera drone, it wont be helpful in combat, personally I would love a 3rd person camera view but the immersion players  wont like it.

pff immersion players....

if 3rd person view doesnt have crosshairs for combat theres no reason to dont give it to us

everyone who doesnt like it will NOT BE FORCED to use it

wheres the problem????

It brakes immersion :D You get a hightend sense of whats going on around you, since you can see more then when you're in the cockpit. So it will give you an advantage over somebody who is not using it.

Just feels unrealistic. Hope they will never implement this.
