When did neutron jumps enter the game? Could the 'mis jump' be a neutron star jump that fires you off in the wrong direction?

“Even after it was discredited....”

I The Dark Wheel it says: "on Raxxla there's an alien construct that's a gateway to other Universes".

Construct is the same word FD uses for the sentient Guardaian AI. I doubt that that's a coincidence.

A two million years old, hyper advanced synthetic species that viped out their own creators and left without a trace.
With the Monolith network still fully operational, they are probably not gone. They could well have made all kinds of artificial universes and still be in the Milky way.

Anyone else spotted that the andromeda galaxy in the skybox is rather odd. Above pic shows the ED in game image on the left and the visible spectrum image from univ. of wiki. on the right to a similar scale. Pink??? and distinctly the wrong shape, and nowhere near big enough

They went to the trouble of including M110, so why is the rest of it completely wrong? I guess what I'm getting at is - poor workmanship or deliberate act?

It's funny you should mention this, because (a LONG time ago) I recall a topic talking about that exact galaxy. For some reason I remember it as the "spinning top galaxy", but using google-fu I cannot find a reference to it now. It looks like a colliding galaxy - so I refer to others here about which galaxy it is. How come nobody has not noticed this before?

Possibly, but that I guess would be virtual universe(s), not the real universe. FD definitely said there is only one universe in ED.

But the Codex says the Omphalos Rift theory was discredited, which seems like a big hint from FD. Still think that any gateway relating to Raxxla is just part of the myth, i.e. it may not be true, or may be only partially true. Hence my previous speculation on an old station named “Raxxla Gateway”, or guardian or thargoid planet-ship (since a ship is a type of gateway taking the inhabitants to different places, etc.

I agree that the Guardian AI is highly likely to be still around. I suspect the number of permit-locked large areas of space (got another one to get around this week on last leg to Beagle Point) means there are (1) several disparate groups of them &/or (2) other alien civilisations yet to be found. Thargoids still exist, so Guardians may also. Just so long as its not the bug blatter beasts of traal!

You might want to raise this with Erimus Kamsel or Dr Kaii since they seem to have been behind much of the galactic mapping efforts

Can this help to refresh your memory?

It's not discredited if Princess Astrohphel and Spiraling Stars contains concealed facts about Raxxla's location. Some tried to discredit it, because "these details [...] bear a striking resemblance to the children's story".

Edit: It's not a virtual, but parallel universe.

Regor Sector (parallel to the Guardian sites) is still permit locked, as is much of the Horse Head Nebula which has a totally bizarre, bottom of a cube like star formation within it.

Edit: Collecting reference system names, standby...

Corner 3: Col 70 Sector DA-Q D5-11
Corner 4: Col 70 Sector BR-C C13-0
Note: Can't get in most of them, obviously. Set bookmarks and view in Galmap ;)

Here's a map of restricted sectors.

The story was discredited by people who don't know where Raxxla is. Some other people that don't know where Raxxla is, believe the author of PAaSS knows and has left hints.

Both opinions are made by people who are more or less as clueless as us.

I don't think virtual, parallel or other universes make much of a difference either. The story is vague enough for all to fit.

That could still be "parallel" in terms of the original 84 Elite that had eight galaxies, so maybe 4 and 8, or 3 and 6 while it seems all of them may be contained within the same Milky Way in the current version.

Edit: In 84 Elite it cost 5000CR for every galactic jump and the drives themselves were hard to find, tech level 10+ I think, so being able to cover half the 'map' from galaxy 4 to 8 in a single hop, or even being able to select which one of the eight you wanted to go to would be a huge time, cash and effort saving.

“Shinrarta Dezhra?’ The woman laughed, her scorn plain to hear. ‘You think the Dark Wheel advertises on a station board in plain sight? That we need rookie pilots to drag a couple of tonnes of thrumpberry flavouring across to Hutton Orbital? A trivial ploy to keep the Founders off our backs.’
‘I’m gratified to hear it,’ Thorn replied. ‘You had me worried for a moment.’
‘It was a little too obvious,’ Lestenio agreed.
‘It keeps the treasure seekers and wishful thinkers occupied,’ the woman said. ‘They believe they are onto something. They have their uses for occasional menial activities. The truth is far more subtle than they will ever suspect. Shinrarta is merely a front.’
‘So …?’
‘You should not consider the Dark Wheel a single organisation, gentlemen. How could it survive for so long if it were? The Wheel has many levels, many hubs, cogs, gears and spokes. It is more akin to an affiliation of organisations that share certain common goals. Interlocking in purpose. Consider yourselves now spinning on the outermost rim.”
