What happened to the FSS ?

I've heard some people not a fan of the FSS honking (sure you have to use the FSS to honk) and then simply cruising around the system to discover the individual bodies. Use the navigation panel to help with their locations obviously.

As far as i am aware they arnt shown there in previously unexplored systems. Either way i want the old honk back. The FSS is not the game i bought.

After this new Patch, my FSS is acting up badly.

  • instead of maintaining the exact zoomed vector after zooming In & back out from an FSS scan, it "auto-centers' on next nearest Parent/Higher Gravity Well (?)
  • zooming in gives 1-2sec of severely discolored FSS display
Working a Gas Giant and its moons is currently rather disorienting. After zooming out, the FSS vector isn't where it's supposed to be but often somewhere else.
Same with a distant B, C, D Sun etc, the FSS almost permanently has to be manually re-positioned with upto 2 zooms back out in order to re-target the correct body :p

Am I alone with that weird issue ?
I was scanning stuff just now and felt that something was weird and couldn't figure out if I was just imagining stuff or if something actually did change about how FSS zooming works.

For instance, every time I scan a moon around a gas giant and zoom back out to continue on to the next moon the view always zooms out centered on the gas giant instead of the moon I just scanned. Which means I have to hunt the scope around to get back where I was in order to keep scanning. Very irritating and disorienting.

Doesn't using the discovery scanner without even going into FSS have the same effect, i.e. you can honk without actually entering the FSS screen?
To be honest I use the FSS So I couldn't say...
Edit: i used to like to go oddity hunting. Using the honk to find interesting planets and stuff. Now you have to use the FSS before you can decide if the system is interesting. Think how many systems there are.... thats why im not even going to bother amongst other complaints.
See quote above. Even then honking via the FSS takes... 3 seconds? What's exactly wrong specifically here?

AFAIK honking merely discovers all Suns/Stars instantly.

The contained Auto-DSS will fill in everything that comes within approx. ~25Ls of the Ship.
So floating around the System would pick things up eventually, but it's like carrying a baby version of the Basic Discovery Scanner (which had 500Ls range) except it does the DSS part as well automatically.

Issue Tracker for FSS freaking out for anyone who wants to post a me too on it:

I know some of you have a lot of disdain for the issue tracker, but it makes me feel better posting to it....my way of saying "FIX IT Gosh Darn it!!!" (paraphrasing, the actual words I am thinking would be censored)
Alright done... (cue LOTR voice) "and you have my vote"
I am the person who submitted this bug report, and this bug report isn't the same issue described in OP. The bug report has a video in it that shows the entire FSS interface skewing sideways on a zoom-in, which is what the problem with that report is.

This is something completely different.

Uhh..... So now we've reached the point where the "can't edit filed Bug Report content" comes around to bite?
I'll recheck.

Hehe crap... indeed can't edit it, so there's a confirmation with a mismatched Text pointed to this separate issue now :p
Gotta love that issue tracker....
(you still get to keep my vote ;) )

Sorry to be frank but buying an online game and expecting it's features to remain the same is unfortunately a flawed belief. Even non-online games nowadays are subject to heavy change over time due to updates and DLC.

I think they've fixed the thing where the planets would sometimes be skewed like you'd see at the far edge of a render and they've done some sort of clever camera offset to achieve this and have forgotten to reset it when you zoom back out.

Maybe, or something else. Perhaps.

I'd buy that explanation if I hadn't experienced the skewed viewport bug several times already this morning.

I just assumed the issues were related even if slightly disimiliar. Lots of me toos in the the issue seem to be similar to what you described. I do not have the issue though, so could just be misunderstanding the problems.

Iv genuinely missed exploring. Hvnt been out there sinse the FSS made it more engaging, probably never will now. Everytime i see a pretty screenshot i just feel sad. :(

Sorry op i know that doesnt help you.

Yeah yeah we know it now. Booh hoo.
There are other threads for FSS whining.

I dont like the FSS. I just cant stand it, the look of it, the mechanics of it. Just dont like it.

Hmm. The usual suspect. Haven't even tried it yet, but so very much hates it.

You so very much remind me of a friend of mine. They for years, during our university time, he refused to go to any sushi place. He was all like "no, i never tried sushi, but i know it is repulsive, i will never eat it, blah, blah". Turned out, it required a metal festival and some early morning drinking to have him join for sushi. And since then, he is absolutely in love. Quite often he's even the one suggesting to go for sushi now.

Now, i am not claiming that the FSS is as awesome as sushi. I even dare to say that the FSS is merely mediocre and has a number of things which could be improved. But you are bashing the FSS since almost half a year, without even having -tried- it. So really, who should FD listen to? Those who look at things, or those who scream and shout in ignorance and out of what seems to be pure prejudice?

I also dare to say: i have a few suggestions on the back of my mind, how the FSS could actually be made better. But i don't trouble myself posting it. Would i post it, you would swamp the thread and spam it with the same uninformed biowaste you spit out whenever the letters FSS are mentioned anywhere on this forum. I also think that FD doesn't look at any thread with FSS mentioned in it any more, exactly due to such behaviour. So yes, you do an excellent job killing any reasonable discussion about it and preventing any possible positive discussion happening around it.

A job well done. cough

I dont want to try it. You people are just like Fdev, want to force it on unwilling players. Accept the fact that it prevents me from doing what i liked doing.
I've tried it quite extensively and still go exploring in the game, though I agree with your assumption that as far as general exploration gameplay goes, it's for the birds.

Either way, no real need to derail the thread further and contend with people who don't care about your opinions and preferences for compelling gameplay.

Good luck.
