I still wonder how hard it could have been to do a second system by now? They have QT, so is it much of a stretch to do Interstellar through the same kind of accelerated tunnel thingy that "The other game" uses and get people at least trading between systems?

Does this come down to persistence and tracking across instances, etc?
Not only that, they hold it back so not everyone and their dog jumps to the "new place" and overlods the meshes. They put into storage, pump out the other systems pop, pop, pop out they come outa production pipeline to be released all in one go so ppl distribute neatly on good amount of places.

Well my take on this is that they didnt really utilize any procgen tech at all. The whole planet is handcrafted and consists of copy-paste textures, again placed by hand. Their "development pipeline" probably consists of a handfull of guys so they needed roughly 10-12 months for one

Calling it first: at some point they'll crowdsource planetary surface handcrafting to the backers.

Yeah, that's what Land Claims are for: "Here, take this shovel and this bucket and have fun shaping your land and building your space-sandcastle! Want a rake? only $599 and you can have one! Star Citizen: NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE... because you have to."

And if server meshing is the bottleneck, why isn't Squadron 42 done?

Because if you think of the pipelines refactoring, the time when the power of the machines will be released (and what is release anyways) is more or less measured in weeks, not months. Having said that you need to really answer the call in order to punch above your weight and to stay frosty. Otherwise the best damned space sim ever will get stale and rough around the verse.

Seeing as it’s still alpha they could move everything thing over to a new system unless of course there are no other systems.

Still no reply from CIG?
It’s going to be epic when Chris Roberts try’s theory crafting his way out of this one!
His only chance is to scramble something together in an attempt to wow his faithful,if he’s got anything working in SQ42 that’s his best bet.

I wonder if there is something hilarious afoot, like Ortwin has reminded Chris that his place on the board is now subject to shareholder scrutiny?

I'm sure there was something trumpeted about him no longer having unbridled control over everything? So if he goes "Full Escapist" (nobody goes Full Escapist), he might lose his CEO status?

I would suspect he has a couple of 800lb Gorillas sat on him to keep him quiet.

If they are looking for more outside funding, then a CEO who goes of on a ill-conceived rant isn't going to be winning many friends.....

Maybe the investor put a clause in to safeguard his money if it all goes south. Their silence is a little telling. Have some backbone,if you’re not ripping everyone off, tell us.

When he was interviewed he already declared all criticts to be trolls, therefore he has no need to reply, he preemptively won the argument against all criticism!

just how is server meshing going to help realise all these stockpiled assets?

regardless of what you think of the game, the current "map" size is pretty huge for one server.

right now it is a laggy desynch fest when trying to fight other players. adding more planets / moons certainly isn't going to help server performance. it wouldn't / doesn't surprise me at all that they are at the limit of what one server can handle.

Just great. Genuine Roberts watched Judge Dredd and had a fidelitous Vision!

As for "map size" - how is their "server meshing" going to affect that? From everything they have said thus far, their "meshing" involves tokenization and instance offload / retrieval.
