"We are listening to the community"...

Can you explain to me how else they can give you a currency in-game that I can spend in the store without them literally giving me real-world currency for just playing their game? Because no matter how I look at it, I see three options:

1) You dont get to earn anything in-game you can use in the store.
2) They pay us real money we can spend in-store, or anywhere else.
3) They give us a currency we can spend in the store, but not elsewhere.

The first option is lame, the second is . They decided to go with the third.

Why not just have ARX equate to your real world currency? Why does $5 have to equal 2500 (or whatever it ends up equaling) points? Why can’t it equal 5.00 points?

Someone please explain the logical reason for having an in game currency that doesn’t reflect real world amounts?

I’m not advocating that FDev give away anything, just make purchasing something transparent. I don’t want to have to get a calculator out every time I want to buy something so I can figure out what I’m actually paying for it.

Why is this so wrong? Why do so many of you not want to make it easier to understand how you’re spending your money?

You'd choose directly by playing your style and paints would be unlocked naturally due to your behaviour.
Want pirate paints? Be a pirate and help them.
Easy system, no more tacked on currency needed, you'd still be able to leave your sour earned money in their shredders for a direct purchase.

Care to make a list for the other 1418 paints who I need to join? And what if I want to be an independent pirate? What exactly is really the issue you are really railing against. Because I doubt you truly are opposed to players selecting their own rewards...

Okay, so the criticism is now not the fact there is a new currency (which is indeed an absurd complaint), but about the numbers they chose. Which you don't know anything about. Ignoring that (but raging about stuff you simply dont know anything about is silly): I just checked and there are apparently multiple currencies being used in the world. Its a matter of preference I guess, but I prefer the game to be transparant in that everyone gets the same number for doing the same thing, rather than have Luis get 3.81934498x what Pete gets because he lives in Brasil rather than the US.

The alternative is people using a VPN because getting Brazilian FD Points may be more lucrative than Norwegian FD points that day. I prefer to have that stuff out of the game, and into the store. As for it being so difficult to figure out how much your spending, I'll pretend that is a genuine argument. In that case: if you really need a calculator for that there is one on your desktop. Using it will take far less time than it has taken you to make any of your posts in this topic. That seems... unwise.

I wonder who of you guys screamed "ARX" when it comes to the question "What feature would you like to see next"?

Honestly - one out of 100.000?

Given the number of times fleet carriers and earnable cosmetics have come up in dangerous discussions and suggestions, is this one of those things where unless the Devs implement everything you suggest they aren't listening to the community as your are the only one in the community whose ideas are worth listening too?

Me!

However I requested they be named "Fredits".

Hey genius, that’s how the store already works. What’s shown in the store at 5£ doesn’t show up in my cart at $6.26. Nice try, but they already price things by region. Moreover, if they wanted to, they could do a simple currency exchange calculation in case you don’t use one of the 4 they accept.

If you are so inclined to spend money on microtransactions in games, every time "change" is involved (either you're short change or have a bunch to spare) its always a form of manipulation. Elder Scrolls Online is the strong example where they've refined this into a horrible practice. Frontier points on console are also another example. At the moment my ps4 account has 150 frontier points, a real amount of moneys worth, with nothing but the dodgy community paints or something stupid like a hex value engine color thats available (i think, they might be more expensive).

I think this is a trivial issue compared to the massive gross anti consumer things that frontier are currently doing.. ie, making you purchase a new account for alt cmdrs.. and NOT SHARING COSMETICS BETWEEN THEM. Trust me, wallet manipulation via change is nothing compared to requiring purchasing dupes. Of digital items with no unit production cost. Every cosmetic is preloaded even so they aren't even going through the motions of pretending like we're getting something. A bit in a database.

What's even more overtly dumb is on console, you're required to link every console cmdr to a frontier account, there's even explicit acknowledgement that you can use an existing pc one. Frontier are certainly controlling the saves here so its their purely their decision they're holding back on in the console + pc account scenario.

But its all optional right.... so its just frontiers goodwill if anything.

I personally don't care, but id admit its really valid to take issue with change manipulation where in the past we've just been able to buy what we want directly. If it turns out cheaper that will be okay, ie, $4 gets you a 6 pack plus some change. Anything else and yes screwed.

I am one who always found that livery needed some love and I'm happy with those changes.

When I started playing ED on PS4 buying stuff from the store was a pain in the ARX.
Now I'm on PC so it's better but the whole livery - store needed love and here it is !

Being able to access directly to livery & shop from main menu is awesome and furthermore we'll get free ARX by simply playing the game + we'll be able to buy single paint job instead of full kit.

I would have complained if it swtiched to "Pay to Win" but they have been clear that it wouldn't happen so THANK YOU Frontier for keeping ED away from that path.

I don't disagree. I only lament that the direction FDev has been taking the game in lately is not one I'm likely to follow. My wallet has closed. We'll see where it goes from here.
That direction is free Paintjobs, free updates, free content and a huge team of people working on the next big expansion. It's pretty irrelevant if your wallet is closed or not since you don't need to buy anything anyway (which is perfectly fine).

lol!

you don't think "the next big thing" is going to be free do you?

what I meant is they seem to be hellbent on turning Elite into COD. I multiplayer FPS. No. I won't be buying that update and I won't be spending any more at the trinket store until they start working on features I actually want.

I haven't really seen anything interesting since they released "Who wants to be a millionaire bus driver?"

most player asked to be able to earn cosmetics in game.
here you are
never satisfied

True. But you could have introduced ARX as an in-game only currency that can't be bought, only earned.

Then continue to allow players to purchase cosmetics with real-world money from the store, as it is now.

Truth is, any form of stored valued cash card (which is basically what ARX is), will almost always end up in a deficit for the card holder.

We take the food court/hall example, where you can't use cash to buy from a vendor at said food hall, but only thru stored value cards.
Then the top up amounts are set at fixed intervals..... $10, $20, $50.
Even if you wanted to buy a meal at $8, you'd have to use $10, and end up with $2 left in the card which can basically buy NOTHING.

So you're left with a choice. To lose that $2, or to top up another $10 and buy something else to use up all the value.

So lose the cash, or get more and try to use up. The truth is, you will always have value some left lying around.

So the only way for FDEV to avoid this money-sucking scenario would be to sell ARX at a fixed exchange rate to the GBP/USD, or even by the cent.
And price the items in game at a value appropriate such that a person doesn't have wasted ARX for a particular item that he wants to purchase.

The term walk and chew bubblegum springs to mind.

I'm sure the FD team are working of multiple features at once, and some features are easier to implement than others, and so get finished first.

No, and I didn't even imply it.

I don't even know what that is.

I liked the improvements to mining, trading, engineers, the bgs and USS system. The scenarios are a good start. They added several dozen unique stellar phenomena, better tools for finding surface POIs, new ships and a bunch of other stuff like NPC voice acting.
I think that's pretty cool and isn't even remotely related to CoD. We'll also get fleet carriers which happens to be one of the major Kickstarter promises.
