Please reconsider fleet carriers for solo players.

Yeah, but if one ship per commander then you have to 'level up' all your commanders.

Want a T9 tanker for refueling? Gotta grind void opals on that account to pay for it.
Want an Eagle canyon racer? Have fun unlocking engineers on that account to get your G5 drag drives.
Every ship you want is another alt to grind.

Sure, you can do it, but to me it seems like an awful lot of effort to go to, compared to ship transfer.

Nah, there are ways around that. Something about collector limpets and Palladium markets....

My thing is, I’ve already paid for my account. I like the game enough to have one account. It’s not great enough to make me want to buy it again. The store has already extracted more than enough extra from me - and let’s not forget this update bringing Carriers is a paid expansion. I’d be a little surprised if Vanilla commanders are able to make use of them as passengers. See them, maybe. Get a “You have to empty your pockets into ours to dock here”, very possibly.

Which means all you “I’ll show them and buy 12 alts” are going to need 12 New Expansions as well. Which would only be fair.

Wait, how the heck do you get a FREE alt commander on console?

everytime I create an account on my xbox, it tells me to buy the game again.

I did it the other day on Xbox. I went to switch users in the ED launch menu and created a new account with a new email and everything.

The new starter systems are really well done. I’ve been out in the black for a while so it was also my first time trying the SC assist and advanced docking CPU

For me, that's the whole point of buying an altCMDR, to start from scratch and enjoy the early game again.

There'll be a second reason if a Squadron membership threshold is put in place for Carrier ownership.

I have an alt for exactly that reason, but T9s and G5 engineering aren't really early game - mid-game at best, even if you follow the Blue Dragon's advice and 'exploit' your way there in a few hours.

Even then, it's going to be hours of grinding something in order to move your carrier around.

Totally fine if that's what floats your boat. It just sounds like hell to me :)

If a carrier can't be owned by a lone wolf, get around it. Go find some friends and, God Forbid... form a squadron.
Or use your alts to form one just to fulfill the requirements.
Formed squadron. Got a couple alts, family, and friends, so I'm good already, and got billions in credits. :)

However, I can see how "lone wolves" want it too, and if there are workarounds... then the restrictions really won't stop anyone to exploit and get around it, so why even have a limit?

I added my first alt-acct a long while back because my primary is out exploring in deep space, and it's too much effort to fly back to the bubble to test new features in the new releases. The alt is always in the bubble, while the primary in out in the deep. Then I got a second alt to create a dedicate PG for some special reasons. They now serve a second purpose for the squadron size.

But then I have a bunch of kids with their own accounts as well. They're not playing right now though, but I think they'll be interested in getting into it again when carriers come out.

Indeed. Arx are for cosmetic items and altCMDR can earn Arx but not be bought with Arx.

A solo player on pc is going to need.. 1-xx alt commanders, only purchasable from real money.

Either that or we can start a player group called the carrier rats offering a 24 hour service lending alts to anyone ready to buy their carriers. That would be mischief.

Both.

I have a number of altCMDRs ready to go.

Someone already coined "The Carrier Pigeons" - which I found quite apt.

Because, it was meant for community play. And only the most persistent lone wolf who wanted something like that would go through all the trouble.
There won't be many. Others would simply form squadrons out of convenience.

Personally, I only need one account. I won't buy a second one just to access some game feature.
I already hate the idea of even letting FD hold on to even one cent of my money in ARX for future purchases.
Let's just say that I'm the type who doesn't give retailers or businesses even an inch out of principle.

I think there will a fair number. If you're still playing 2k+ hours, trust me its the first new thing to do in a long while. One year of same same different wasn't that new.

Or you can just buddy up with 2 of your friends who play, but don't care for the carrier. Use their accounts to be squadron mates.
You know... sort of like foreign brides for Green cards scams?

Then continue playing in Solo while building that carrier.

Leaving aside the question of whether FCs are designed for communities or solo players, let's take a look at the math:

Regardless of how many alts you have in your squadron, you can still only fly one ship at a time, so given that the maximum squadron size is 500, which means that it'll take a single player 8 HOURS to do what the full squadron does in a MINUTE.

Now the Gnosis jumps 500 LY, so taking that as a benchmark, if refueling the FC takes a full squadron a minute, they would be able to get their FC to Beagle Point in a little over 2 hours. I think we can therefore assume that FDev intend it to take more than a minute to move a carrier 500 LY. So how fast should carriers move? Well the Gnosis only jumps once a week, so I'll again take that as a benchmark. I think 5 hours per week is a reasonable estimate for play time for an average player, and I'll also assume that FDev are happy for a mid-sized (250 member) squadron to move their FC 500 LY per week. So that's 1,250 man hours to move a carrier 500 LY.

Those of you wanting your own, personal, fleet carriers to take out into the black to explore, you're looking at 2,500 hours just to get far enough out to start getting first discoveries.

Now it may be that FDev set the limits lower, so that a 25 member squadron can move 500 LY per week - but you solo players are still looking at 6 months to move that far, and a full size squadron would be able to move 10,000 LY per week which basically means they can teleport around the Bubble at will, which I can't see FDev wanting to happen.

So everyone may be able to get your own personal carriers, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to be able move it far.
