VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

Go on, I’ll have a try :)

Imagine you enjoyed the first Lord of the Rings* movie on a humongous IMAX 3D cinema screen, all the bells and whistles, then a year later The Two Towers released in the same format - magnificent! Sure, most people would only see the films on a standard, smaller cinema screen or possibly only on TV’s or even, shudder, on a mobile phone.

Then instead of the expected next-year release for The Return Of The King, there’s a five year gap - until an absolutely stunning trailer drops... this will be it, this will be the thing you’ve dreamed of, a true masterpiece to finish the trilogy - until Peter Jackson lets drop that he’s premiering it direct to TV, it’s what the vast majority have watched his films on anyway. Asked about the IMAX 3D version, he gives a bit of a shrug and says, “not for the premier.”

Then it’s, “don’t worry, you can still watch the first two movies in awesome-o-vision!”

Cue sulky people and other people telling them that even though they’ve never seen an IMAX 3D film they shouldn’t sulk because they’re not.

* - substitute any movie trilogy you like, and I know LotR wasn’t in 3D :)
Your cinematic analogy was not a million miles from mine...
I wonder would a better analogy for how different the experience of playing ELite in VR vs on-screen be something along the lines of "if playing a game, such as elite, in VR is watching a movie at the cinema, then playing it on flatscreen would be akin to only getting the audio of the movie, and listening to that as a radio show/podcast/mp3 in your headphones."
So which is it "Great minds think alike" - OR - "Fools seldom differ" - I'll let you decide

That's closer then the others.

Whoops! Subconscious plagerism, my apologies - I’d walked the dog between reading your post & Max’s, so that must’ve been just enough time for my cerebrum to digest your text and think, “hey, I’ve got this new and original analogy!” :)

That's closer then the others.
Aye, Max

:D

This is not necessarily true. The monitor I am using on my gaming rig is not really fit for 2D gaming. It does fine for starting VR-applications, but I certainly would need a new monitor to play any reasonably modern game without severely nerfing the graphical experience. An AMD GPU user could just buy a new graphics card just as well as I could by a new monitor.

I've got the same. My VR PC is only used for VR, and has a small monitor attached.

Nailed it well, Sir!

I also tend to think about Diablo fans being told that next installment is mobile only, with the million euro tagline: “Don’t you all have phones?”

Have I missed anything, or has there genuinely not been any more info on the fate of VR in this game since the 8th of June?

shrugs so it's not available on release? Is the world suddenly going to implode?

Mass hysteria?

I'll wait till it's available. Hell, I've waited this long for Space Legs to finally be a reality. Meanwhile in SC they're still waiting for an actual universe to go along with their implementation.

SAME OL' FRONTIER DEVELOPMENTS

Say nothing, protect the profits.

Thank you!

And this really is how I feel about Odyssey. I dont hate it, most likely it's a good DLC for whom ever it may target. But it's just not for me.

.
Yeah the point is that with Odyssey they want to create a link from the ground (feet) to the stars (flying the ship).
But this link is already very deep and accurate in Star Citizen where you litterally wake up in a bed in a hotel, use lifts and public transportation to go to the starport and there you get onboard your ship and fly away.
The real difference between the 2 games for me would have been VR.

Star Citizen is to me the same "game" as NMS. Both games are space games, but with wierd gamey mechanics or graphics style. I dont own any of them.

I would take SC over Elite any day, even without VR... if it was even 35% finished :p. To my eye it is still at a proof of concept stage after all these years. Sad, because it's beautiful and has this "pilot in the universe" vibe Braben was peddling during the KS too.
