DLC speculations

One thing I'd like to see is a One-Year Anniversary Pack... one that doesn't have any particular theme beyond "things we thought people would like"... would be a perfect excuse to fill holes in the roster and just add whatever...

Also, hoping for a free animal or two... nothing complicated; something simple and obvious... maybe White Rhino? ...and American Alligator?

I personally think that the next update will come in December, but as the game will have the one year anniversary in November, I could belive that there will be a "Deluxe pack 2.0", which would contain animals that are very similar to the species we already have in game, and I personally wouldn't want to see a place in the regular DLC gone for them. Some species I would be happy about would be (of course there would be only three or four, but there would be a lot of options) : Malayan tapir, Nile crocodile, Blackbuck, Green peafowl, almost any Lemur species, Wisent (and a lot more)

As for the December DLC I would expect Europe or North America. For Europe I could imagine.
-Harbor seal (if there would be diving animation till then)
-Moose
-Alpine Ibex
-Wild boar
-Olm as a exhibit animal (even when rarely kept in zoos)

For spring, I could imagine a expansion for Africa:
-Black/white rhinoceros (TBH, I would really like both of them, but I wouldn't want two slots be covered by rhinos)
-Meerkat (but any other commonly kept mongoose would be nice too)
-Gelada
-African penguin (just to get people angry that there are no penguins in Africa)
-Exhibit animal: Pancake tortoise

For summer I could imagine a visit to South East Asia:
-Gibbon
-Sun bear
-Babirusa
-Gaur/Banteng
-Exhibit animal: Earless monitor

So, lets ignore the dlc that is already in the steam database for a moment and will probably come before winter. Lets also ignore a leak I've seen, as I have a feeling covid messed up with Frontiers plans A LOT...

Ignoring all that, the earliest we should await another DLC would be winter. Because with christmas coming up, it's an important business season, so it is wise to release a dlc around novembre. A winter theme would be a good point, I think. Maybe Antarctic with penguins, walrusses or something like that.

As much as I wish there would be a huuuge one year anniversary surprise with lots of animals (don't care if we need pay for them), I was in a franchise fandom where they released a previously paid for small item for their 20th anniversary. So after EAs pool gate I'm prepared to just have a special stream for Frontiers one year Planet Zoo anniversary.

All in all, as much as I think the unfortunate continent rooster will continue, I also wish they would finally find another pattern. It would make "just 5 animals" less noteable, as those five animals wouldn't be forced to represent a whole continent anymore.

What leak? You made me veeeerrrryyyy interested :)

Hi guys!
Now we have an attic pack, an sout America pack and soon a Australia pack.

What do you think we will get next if frontier continue whit this red thread?

My guesses (wishes) is:
Nordic pack - Moose, fox’s, beaver
Oceana pack - otters, seals, penguins
Africa pack - meerkats

Otters don't live in Oceania.

Walrus' don't live in Antarctica so it's not happening.

I agree that Frontier almost surely has/had a plan to release a pack in November/December for holiday sales but who knows if it's gotten thrown off schedule. Hopefully not. The Antarctic pack is a good idea, I just wonder if they're ready with animations and rigs for things like Walruses, seals, penguins etc. Of course, i mentioned elsewhere, they could just make those animals float, not swim. Not ideal but maybe they would patch the swimming in later with more time.

It will be interesting to see what they go with. I also think it's possible with a one year anniversary they might give us one free base game animal, not attached to any DLC. Everyone who has the base game gets it.

Personally:
North America = Would replace the turtle with the alligator. One of the first animals I can think of. (Prairie dogs would be nice too, if they go with smaller animals)
Europe = Would replace Deer or Fox for the European Badger or Wolverine
Asian = Would replace the Asian dog with the Markhor or Binturong
Africa = Would replace the Giant Eland for the Grey Crowned Crane or Red river hog
Desert = Maybe the Aardwolf (not sure if this is desert) - can't think of any extra species though
Critically Endangered = needs some variety imo (hoofed animals)
Extinct in the wild = would prefer a different conservation status - a quick wiki search doesn't give much interesting animals to add extra.
Birds DLC = Woudl add Condors/Vultures to the list - especially certain vulture species are easily found in zoos.

True the walrus probably won’t happen especially if we don’t at least get underwater animations. Zt2 has animals that swim underwater but don’t necessarily dive. They kinda jump in the water and the swimming animations kick in and jump out the same way. I could live with that. Anyway any animal is still possible as I still believe we’ll eventually get one or two all animal packs possibly.

My guess is next will be a North American pack. If it's not next, then it might be the next pack after that.

I'd want it to have red fox, raccoon, lynx and white-tailed deer, with kingsnakes and eastern collared lizards as exhibit animals.

I've been considering how they might do birds. As I said in my other post, because 'birds' is such an immense group of diverse animals, they would have to make this a bigger pack than the current pattern suggests, and it entirely depends on how they implement birds as to what is or isn't possible.

That said, I was thinking about what birds are "important" to zoo collections, and in my mind they can be broken down into five categories:

- Parrots. This is the big one. There are more exotic parrots in zoos and private collections than any other kind of bird.
- Birds of prey. This one also goes without saying.
- Waterfowl. A big group, which would contain ducks, geese, and swans, but also herons, ibises, cranes, and so on.
- Pheasants. If the pack is made around specifically flying birds, this can be ommitted and dispersed into other DLC.
- Other. This category would contain the pigeons, doves, and passerines, such as mynah and kookaburra.

So I compiled a conservative list of twelve animals, excluding pheasants, which I would hope is rounded out enough:

- Blue and gold macaw.
- Sulphur-crested cockatoo.
- African grey parrot.
- Steller's sea eagle.
- White-backed vulture.
- Peregrine falcon.
- Waldrapp ibis (northern bald ibis).
- Toco toucan.
- Greater hornbill.
- Grey crowned crane.
- Laughing kookaburra.
- Magpie goose.

It might seem random, but I have put some thought into it. The macaw, grey parrot, and cockatoo, are all very much common zoo animals, and very much iconic of parrots. The sea eagle is important to conservation, the vulture is typical of African collections (I tossed up between it and the lammergeier, but the latter felt more niche - the Egyptian vulture might also be a good choice), and the falcon is one people automatically go to when discussing birds of prey. The ibis is also very important for conservation and has that 'weird' factor, while the toucan and hornbill should go without saying. The crane is another popular African wetlands species, while the kookaburra is extremely renowned and large enough that it can steal attention. The goose is the oddball, but they were in the X-Box version of Zoo Tycoon which Frontier was heavily involved with, and they're unique enough that I think they could be a bit like the Dall sheep, where they seem like a strange choice but wind up being beloved.

As for features, the obvious one would be aviaries. As I said we have no idea how this is going to work. Personally I wouldn't mind a large collection of prefabricated aviaries that function similarly to exhibits, others want total customisation. All opinions are valid, at least we can almost guarantee we'd get aviary mechanics. I also think a bird show would be a cool feature. It would be an amphitheatre facility where the talents of birds can be shown off. Not like a circus act where the birds do tricks, but like modern educational displays where it's a case of showing people how intelligent and powerful birds really are.

I'd also expect to see a whole host of bird-related objects, such as nest-boxes for breeding, new enrichment items and feeding options which require height to access, and perhaps even new ways for visitors and birds to interact. A common feature in some zoos is a public bird feeding where guests basically hold out the food and the birds come down and land on them. I've taken part in this with rainbow lorikeets, kea, and various other smaller species. That would be a neat little gimmick for aviaries, I think.

This might also be a good place to add in the highly-requested animal-related special effects. Things like butterflies, pond fish, even smaller birds could be made into looping effects that you can place anywhere.

Hi so the next DLC would we be looking at autumn with a one year old birthday update as well in November So could it be (European or North American) and then a winter update in February, If winter in February, we had artic February just gone so could it be Antarctic in which case would that be penguins and seals not sure what other animals could go with this (this could introduce an aquatic update)

So IMHO I am going for North America or Europe in November and Antarctic in February

Best Regards

I don't think they'll do penguins or other aquatic animals until they figure out underwater navigation.

I view these first three DLC packs as being representative of the first three updates for Planet Coaster - we had Christmas/N. Hemisphere Winter (Arctic), Spring/Easter (South America), and now Summer (Australia). After that, for PlanCo next came the Spooky Pack, followed by an Anniversary Update towards the end of the year. Given the scheduling for PlanZo is so out of whack because of Covid (I suspect we were supposed to get 1.3.0 and the Australia Pack earlier, but who would know?) they might end up folding the next DLC and anniversary update into one feature for November. Or the anniversary update might just be all they originally had planned for the end of this year, but in any case I suspect we'll see something arrive at that time.

In any case, if the first three DLC packs are in-line with the first three updates for PlanCo, then the next DLC might be something bigger, or different - something that is more of a game changer than simply new content. My best guess for it would be the inclusion of birds, if they are able to do that.

Alternatively, things might go the way of Jurassic World Evolution, and we might instead see smaller animal-only packs coming into play now that the major themes have been covered.
I really hope your speculation becomes true and we have a bigger DLC for the 1st Anniversary. That'd be so cool.

If we keep having a similar Continent DLC trend, Europe seems like the most probable option to me. No fully European animals in the game so far plus autumn seems like the perfect season to drop an European pack as the leaves fall phenomenom is very patent in Europe (also in other continents but oh well).

After the great Australia pack, we are heading now towards two important dates: 1st anniversary (November) and Christmas (December). I think that we can expect the next brand new DLC for one of those dates, but we shouldn't expect two full brand new DLCs because they would be too close in time. Besides, there's the new Planet Coaster for console coming soon too.

I hope that the next full DLC is Europe, because there are no animals exclusive from Europe in the game (and it is the only continent without even an exhibit animal). Europe is a nice fit for Christmas season. However, what if we also get one small 1st anniversay pack with animal variants? They would be mostly reskins and they could cover the 5 continents:

  • Malayan tapir
  • Black and white ruffed lemur
  • American black bear
  • European bison
  • Yellow footed wallabi (maybe this requires more work than just a reskin from the red kangaroo in an smaller size)

We shouldn't really hype the one year anniversary too much. I mean, yes, it's Frontier and not EA, but players got a previously sold reskin of a wirlpool for the 20(!!!!!) anniversary of the franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if all we do fpr the FIRST anniversary of Planet Zoo is "only" a nice celebration stream.

To the Planet-verse Veterans here: Did Planco get something special for their first year?

Yes:

It was mostly oriented around the Scenario Editor, which I'm still missing as a feature in Planet Zoo.

If it's a North America DLC, my predictions are:

1. American alligator
2. A subspecies of mountain lion (I don't know which)
3. Whooping crane or maybe sandhill
4. A "suprise," maybe a peccary, American black bear, or white-tailed deer. Could be anything.
5. An exhibit animal. I really don't know which. A green anole seems like a good choice, and while they're not endangered, they're still facing competition from a non-native species. Maybe a snapping turtle of some sort.

If it's a Europe one, I'm not sure. Hopefully we'll get a fox and/or winset. Out of curiosity, if mammoth are resurrected in the real world during the course of Planet Zoo's life (although I imagine any mammoth cloning projects have had major setbacks due to covid), would they add mammoths in a free update? If it doesn't get accomplished in real life, I really wouldn't want to see anything like that.

I'm sure they'll bring out some kind of aquatic pack when theyve got the swimming animations down. Can't wait to have penguins, otters, platypus, beavers and such! Also looking forward to when the find a good way to do burrowing animals like meerkats and wombats :D

North America I would speculate this (somewhat influenced by my wishlist for NA):

American Alligator
Cougar
Moose
Raccoon

Exhibit species could be anything but love to see : San Francisco garter snake
Building Pieces: Wild West mixed with Native American scenery items

Europe same approach (somewhat influenced by my wishlist for NA)

Badger/Wolverine/Red Fox (can't pick)
Alpine Ibex
Saiga Antelope/Red deer
Iberian or Eurasian Lynx

Exhibit species could be anything but love to see: European yellow-tailed scorpion
Building pieces; I think this is where Europe DLC will shine - a lot of great architecture styles to pick from.
Personally think that one of the Eastern Europe styles will even help the people who are asking for "basic building pieces".
