Before taking a break from the game, I connected that sonnet/poem, or at least the stanzas people were looking at with the Muse (i think it mentioned muse) of love and poetry: Erato.
I came back to the game the other day and put on my tinfoil hat again:
"The jewel that burns on the brow of the mother of galaxies."
My interpretation:
Mother of Galaxies: Cassiopeia
Brow: Possibly another word for 'mind'
Burns: Troubles, torments, causes resentment
Jewel: something pretty,beautiful.
So: Something beautiful that troubles (mentally) Cassiopeia.

I then looked up the history of Cassiopeia. She boasted she and her daugher Andromeda were more beautiful than the Nereids. Poseidon was enraged and to appease him, Andromeda was tied to a rock to have Cetus eat her but Perseus saved her. So the jewel could be Andromeda, in which case we need to look at all those star systems in the constellation. I haven't looked too hard into this but i think several people did a year+ ago. It could also be the Nereids, who Cassiopeia claimed to be more beautiful of, possibly resenting them now due to being punished for that claim. Interestingly enough, Erato, as mentioned above, is a Nereid. Maybe it's a coincidence. Typing "Erat" in the galaxy map search comes up with 7 systems. 6 are all very close to Teach other in the bubble-ish area. 1 is Eratothenes, which is in the Orion Nebula. I flew out to it but found nothing except that others have come here too. I have yet to check the 6 other systems that came up in the search, tho none had names with "erat" in it so i'm not sure what caused them to come up. Maybe this isnt the jewel and it's either Poseidon, Nereus or Doris (parents of Nereids), or Andromeda. Thetis is the most beautiful Nereid and captured Poseidon's attention, and is a system in Winter's territory.

Thoughts?

You're not alone. When they talk about the jewel, I couldn't help but think andromeda, myself.

I've dabbled in history, but I'm no historian, so you went further in depth. I just happen to notice Andromeda, no matter where I am. The distant Galaxy is so bright, it catches my attention, even near the center of our Galaxy where the star field is totally cluttered.

What I'm going to do, and what I should have been doing, is try to study, word for word, anytime FDev mentions Raxxla or TDW. Going to study up on Thargoids. And finally, FINALLY get around to reading the books. I will also study up on any relevant real world things as needed.

There has to be a bigger clue. Either we're missing it ENTIRELY, or just not seeing what's in front of our faces.

So Im not the first to link it with a bridge of tinfoil. Well thats my ego shattered lol

Ill have to find that video, see what led other people to it as a possibility.

Hasnt Lovecraft come into Raxxla or DW before somewhere? I know anything can be linked with enough imagination but may be foolish to ignore things we can ascertain to be new or even unique to the game with sources as opposed to something from a 3000 year old religion thats universal like star names and constellations.

I still dont really know how Jacques got there, as in:

Did players really dump enough UA and fdev just responded or was it fdev plan all along to misjump it? At what point did they discuss and implement the misjump scenario, did they think about it beforehand and there was a 'bucket' to fill to trigger it or was it suddenly imagined after they saw UAs being dumped?
Why no call from Jacques for Meta-Alloys when they must have known players were dumping it? Did Jacques really not know in lore until the actual jump, or was this all part of the plan?
Considering UA causing damage was introd by fdev in the first place, maybe the entire thing was a set up for this one event? There were a couple of stories around it but then meta-alloys and cargo resistance pretty much put an end to it....the only legacy from it is Jacques location.
If so then its there for a reason we dont know about.
DB has commented that he is surprised and pleased at how Colonia has grown, wasnt something he expected. Implies Jacques was going to be all alone initially or would maybe repair and jump again...this all got overtaken by players and the rest is history.
So Jacques may or may not have been 'placed' or 'intended' by fdev to be exactly where it is...if so, could there be something nearby?

Edit: We know there was a whole 'find Jacques' storyline with GalNet clues etc that never got played out because a Cmdr found it. Surely that story and those clues were written well in advance and not made up at the last minute?....If so it implies it may have been 'The' plan all along.

Michael Brookes is a keen Lovecraft fan. See earlier posts in this thread about his tattoo. It was supposedly for an as-yet unpublished book combining Lovecraft and Milton-like themes. We had much discussion over the meaning of that tattoo and possible relationship to ED.

I suspect you’re overthinking things. Of course Jaques was intentionally placed, and FD only had publish in Galnet that Jaques was going to undertake a long distance jump for some players to jump on the possibility of UA bombing him, either from roleplay reasons or sheer bloody mindedness. Some livestreamer let slip on one of the Canonn threads (now closed & archived but still accessible, though not sure if that post wasn’t removed) back around 2015 that FD’s 10 year plan involved a major Thargoid invasion pushing humanity out of the bubble (also the storyline of the Dynasty plot and bases) & the need to fight a guerrilla war to reclaim it. Clearly to do that humanity needs a base well outside the bubble to fight from...

I think there are a couple of Guardian sites not too far from Colonia, so perhaps there’s a storyline link to them at a future point. Certainly necessary to top up AX weaponry for anti-goid guerrilla ops.

Was just in Carcosa last night having a look at all of this as I too was thinking the whole "unamed" and "nameless" seemed " a tiny little bit obvious" only thing that seemed of interest to my somewhat untrained eye (other than a gas giant with 8 moons) was an installation named 'Unauthorized Installation'' but i was unable to get close enough in my Paper mache jumpaconda because of trespassing and such. Could be something but sadly I was unprepared to investigate. 😔

Theres Unaauthorised Installations all over. I think theyre the closest to Pirate bases we have, the first one I found was in an Asteroid Belt, you can imagine what I thought lol. I do wonder though if they arent Pirates as such but some hidden organisation. Dunno, they usually have cool piratey names like Blacktooth and are usually orbiting the last body or moon in the system, usually the furthest out.

What I'm going to do, and what I should have been doing, is try to study, word for word, anytime FDev mentions Raxxla or TDW.

That way madness lies...more that it drives you mad theres bits all over the place, 2 minutes here, 30s there, 45 min interview not on Frontier YT channels, GL :)

I suspect you’re overthinking things.

Oh lord yes, but smiling while I do it. Ill only be disappointed if I actually find it.

Clearly to do that humanity needs a base well outside the bubble to fight from...

I always though the first target would be Colonia and the Colonia Highway and all the outposts, retreat us back to the bubble and squeeze....but depends if its targeted and strategic or just following the other group and destroying as they go.

It’s important to keep on smiling! 🤓

Not if the goids are coming from Col70 via Witchhead & California Nebulae. Colonia’s on the far side of the bubble which should therefore be the first to be hit (well, actually Chloe Sedesi......). Now if FD had the goids coming from Bovomit, where I suspect they were originally planned, things would be different and Jaques would be the sacrificial lamb robot mechanoid cyborg mobility scooter. 😁

Howdy Cmdrs,

FD said they made Raxxla's location "a tiny bit obvious", therefore I think we need to laterally think the s**t out of this. The Codex entry says the toast is an "alleged toast" and although there has to be something useful there, I'm not gonna focus on that too much. I took my Anexplonda (she either explores or explodes depending on my abysmal flying abilities) and went lateral right off the proverbial cliff. And kept going since I somehow managed to miss the ground.

(TL;DR I think I found something, maybe nothing, laughable most likely. Fun journey though)

1) It sure would be nice to know the level of allegedness of that toast. Is it canon? Should we ignore some/all of it? Anyway, here's another way to look at the "brow" part. Beside "forehead", "eyebrow" or "summit/peak" it also means "bridge" (the old Norse meaning). There is a star that sits right on the galactic equator, bridging the galactic hemispheres. Mintaka. There's a black hole in it, Mintaka B, the lover's woe and the parent's grief. Mintaka A is an O-class star, so there's your jewel. Don't know how the siren and the whisperer fit in, but it might be just be a distraction from FDev, I don't know. So anyway, I went there, scanned again (and mapped) the whole system, spent some time there looking for anything out of the ordinary. Even went in the black hole. There's a body exclusion zone of 147 km. No Omphalos. That was it. Nothing else.

2) RAXXLA. The name might bear a clue itself. RA XX LA. Could they be coordinates? I've seen some cmdrs pursued this already, but here's what I think: RA is Right Ascension and LA is Latitude, better known as Declination. XX, as roman numerals, are either 10 and 10, or 20. So we got 10 degrees RA and 10 degrees Declination, OR 20 degrees for both. Because I can't seem to figure out how to search GalMap by coordinates (is it even possible?) I went through the astronomy catalogues and at close proximity to those coords I found some systems: HIP 48866, HIP 49279, HIP 48911 (for 10 and 10) and HD 189550 (for 20 degrees). There was another one which I have to mention: HD 189754, alt name is HD 1989, it's about 1340ly away, which was right on 20 RA and 20 LA/decl, but it's not in GalMap. Or it is and it's a dark system.

Neither of those systems I found had any Omphalos thingies, or anything else of much value for that matter, just some LTDs and Tritium in a sea of serendibite, alexandrite and whatnot. Maybe something else might be found following those coords, but this is all I could find so far. If someone else finds/knows a way to search GalMap by coordinates, please let me know.

3) Now for the cool part. Just as I was leaving Mintaka I got a phone call. I was looking at my old phone with a numeric keyboard and it suddenly dawned on me that someone could write Raxxla using numbers. R is 7, A is 2 etc. Hell, maybe the cmdr who found it was an old 20th century movie Matrix fan and was still using a vintage Nokia...it could happen right? Right? Slim chances, but Raxxla would translate to 729952. (Well actually it would translate to 777299995552 but let's hope the FD devs are not completely insane. :))

I searched for 729952 in GalMap and came up empty handed. BUT, there IS a system called HIP 72995. And the 2nd planet in that system would be....? 72995 2. Or RAXXL A.

Behold. Thar's yer Poor Man's Raxxla. It wasn't even me who discovered it. Or mapped it. And it sure ain't much to look at.
rxxl.jpg

Well, since FDev hasn't told us what Raxxla is or what isn't, before they officially deny it (and maybe give us SOME info at least on what Raxxla isn't), we might just as well go there and snap a selfie.
It looks like some crappy render out of the first season of Star Trek TNG. Something fits, but it's just an interpretation. So anyway, as far as I'm concerned, this is my own personal Raxxla. For now. I'm enjoying this until FD tells us it isn't. 😉

As a finishing thought...
What if there's more than one Raxxla?

Keep flying like Raxxla's just one jump away cmdrs.

O7.

To the jewel that burns on the brow - Sirius
Sirius, also known as the Dog Star or Sirius A, is the brightest star in Earth's night sky. The name means "glowing" in Greek — a fitting description, as only a few planets, the full moon and the International Space Station outshine this star. Because Sirius is so bright, it was well-known to the ancients.

The Ancient Greeks thought that Sirius's emanations could affect dogs adversely, making them behave abnormally during the "dog days", the hottest days of the summer. The excessive panting of dogs in hot weather was thought to place them at risk of desiccation and disease. In extreme cases, a foaming dog might have rabies, which could infect and kill humans they had bitten. Homer, in the Iliad, describes the approach of Achilles toward Troy in these words:

Sirius rises late in the dark, liquid sky
On summer nights, star of stars,
Orion's Dog they call it, brightest
Of all, but an evil portent, bringing heat
And fevers to suffering humanity.

If Gaia is the mother, then Sirius is the jewel that burns on the brow being the brightest...

"Burning".... Just a thought :)

Just wanted to pop in a give a bit of perspective that's changing my mind. I'm out on the HIP hunt currently underway to get all in game HIP stars into EDSM. I'm spending a lot of time less than 1K away from Sol and am finding a good bit of undiscovered territory. I was firmly in the camp that Raxxla couldn't be near the bubble because it had all already been explored. I'm changing my mind on that. Just today I found two systems that only the main star had been discovered. One had 13 bodies in it. No gas giants with eight moons, though. So I don't know....lore or other reasons are irrelevant, I'm just saying that I found a totally "unlooked at" system less than 500lys from Sol. This also lends validity to "A CMDR has been in the system and didn't find it."

Take that for what it's worth.

I discovered this too, when visiting Guardian sites in Synuefe. There's a lot of undiscovered systems there. Especially lower and higher on the plane. Even found a gold ammonia world in Synuefe, which was intriguing because we know it to be Guardian territory and the Thargoids thrive in that atmosphere.

Yup back in the bubble doing the same thing... gotta get ma trinkets ;)

This has been my thought, too. I even wondered if they could be linked to the independent system Fortuna (lady fortune) or Tiana Fortune (perhaps being nicknamed lady fortune). I'm rounding some up in my carrier, at Seagull Nebula. They drop more frequently there. I've gotten 11 today--could of had way more, but sometimes you get a ship that drops 5-6 and you can't collect them all before other ships do lol. At least not with my 1A collector lol. It's an anarchy system, so no Wanted status. Just fly around hatch breaking everyone in a shield tank (so you can mostly pop chaff and ignore them). Oddly pirate activity is very high in that system, but it's the corporate ships that seem to mostly have them.

Nice - will check it out. I haven't gotten my trinkets yet - thanks !

Once you’ve got a hold full then pm me 5 numbers between 1 & 50 plus 2 numbers between 1 & 12.

(The way Brexit negotiations are currently going UK will soon be unable to participate in the Euromillions lottery, and I want that villa in the sun before winter and the second covid lockdown starts! 😉)

Okay I've refined my Trinket hunt. Not that these things are worth anything. They're on and off. Sometimes you find them like crazy, sometimes you don't see one in two hours. But when you do find a source, hatch break the ship as many times as you can. I just got 14 from one ship and had to bail on the rest because a pirate scanned me and launched a hatch breaker on me lol. Go after Keelbacks, and T-ships. Then Adders/ Haulers. The Keelback I hatch breaked 3 times for 5-7, each instance.

[Edit]
Do note that some of the limpets flying around may not be yours and they and other NPC steal them/ steal them back. Try to track who's doing it so you can steal them back lol.

Will do... May the shining face of Fortuna look upon you!
Ya these days I just pretend im traveling by watching youtube walking videos of places I want to see...

Hey guys. Just a wild proposal here. Trinkets are known to be carried by superstitious pilots. We also know something of value is in them. We may never know that last part, but what if anything from drops, to jump routes are enhanced with these things? The only reason I ask is becuse I feel like I find more Trinkets when I have them. We also know that the Dark Wheel is usually looking for something and could be why they historically had missions for these. Now I don't know if those missions still exist, but if they don't? They may have found what they were looking for.
