ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Today, I've suddenly and inexplicably have started to get blurring or ghosting when I move my head in the rift. I've never had this before, occasional stutter, but nothing like this. Has ED done something to the executable or watchdog program? I haven't changed any settings on my system or in game.

I'm now up and running with my DK2 however i'm really interested to see how people navigate? I cant use the system map and really struggle to use the galaxy map? Any top tips?

Thanks in advance!

I use the Xbox 360 controller for the maps. works great.

Use VoiceAttack. There's a great video on YouTube of va being used in the galaxy map.

oh ok in conjunction with the primary control device? ( I use a X52 pro )

Also anyone know the link to the display settings where you can get to display on the primary monitor as a single view? ( like it was at egx....it was a dev post from memory ) My children want a go but thats almost impossible when its all in the rift :D

Thanks in advance and thanks for all the other replies so far

/tiphat Thankyou!

I use the X52 and configured the galaxy map to work effortlessly without the need for a second controller.
I think, they might have changed something with the way the bindings overwrite themselves within one of the last updates as now assigning axes / buttons for map control doesn't clear their primary binding and I'm pretty sure it did clear the other bind, before.

The only thing you should be aware of are the menu navigation buttons (including the confirm button) which carry over from your usual menu navigation (I use the primary hat for navigation, trigger for confirmation and throttle hat left/right to change tabs - works great ;) )

I also think that it makes everything much easier to assign one button (through the X52 profiler) to the ESC button on the keyboard. I use the "fake mouse button", eg (cleared it's mouse function in the profiler, assigned ESC).

Now I don't have to touch the keyboard at all. Literally never. And don't have to use a second controller for the GalMap.

Have a try of the Tuscany demo, see if you see the same ghosting. I'm pretty certain that that just how it has to be when they use the low persistence mode. If you try pressing F1 (I think) in the Tuscany demo, that way you can see the difference between low and normal persistence. It's either much motion blur or high contrast ghosting :(

Unless you're seeing a different issue or bug, of course!

Yeah Dinbar, I have the X52 Pro also, and the xbox 360 controller just sits next to me. both controllers work simultaneously. No problem.

I had this a number of times, seems like low persistence crashes or something.. restart oculus service, switch to direct and back to extended mode, it should be gone..

Anyone vistited the BOLG system yet? There is a gigantic asteroid belt at BOLG7 that's absolutely unplayable in the rift, massive ghosting no matter if i set everything to low or not.. a bit depressive because this would be amazing to bounty hunting in:eek:

Today after playing with Elite graphics settings, something stopped working correctly: when I moved my head left, the objects moved ("floated") slightly to the right, head down - screen up. It's a bit difficult to explain, but after just few minutes I got severe motion sickness and I still feel really bad 15 minutes after.

Anyone knows what might have happened?

I have to lie down, ughhh...

Just got a gtx 970 after selling my pair of gtx 680s in sli. I was expecting a drop in performance especially as benchmarks show it being around 10% slower. I was shocked though to find that after over clocking the card I can keep rock solid 75fps with aa off and shadows on medium, with my sli 680 setup I had to have shadows on low and aa and ao turned off. Well happy

But the fact is - now it's redundant. You don't need a second controller for the map. You just need to use the existing inputs. Really no problem.

I have to disagree with your point. In development its useful to assign new features to a controller before assigning to main system as they often change during builds.

I don't really understand your point. Some time ago, binding inputs to galaxy map control cleared their bindings from flight control. Maybe it was a leftover from a design option to let you control the ship while looking at the map.
Anyway - now you have the possibility to bind anything you want to GalMap controls without clearing the other bindings.
So - what is the actual advantage of not just binding map controls to the many axes a hotas system has?
For me it's a rather simple decision - if I can stay on the hotas without fumbling around for a second controller while not losing any functionality of the map interface - why would I not do it?

Need Help

First weekend with my new tower and Rift and I keep getting an error, sometimes after 5 mins sometimes after 15,no fixed time. Just keep getting an error crashing the game saying an exceptional error in the render stream. Then if I check the task bar it says that the display driver crashed and has recovered. Help.

You are talking about in game, yes of course all bindings will be on the hotas, in development as new features rollout and change the layout. I find it easier to just stick them on the controller, then as it gets more refined move them to the hotas configured to how I want them. We still have no clear way to work the Sys Map. Will that have to be bound too etc.

Anyhow this is not the place to discuss bindings.

Which video card and driver version? OS?

Is it a custom built PC or an off the shelf one?

Have you tried playing the game on the monitor for an hour or more to see if it only crashes with the Rift?

If it is specific to the Rift I'd add the firmware and SDK version.

It appears the first Samsung Galaxy Note 4's are coming through. On the link below the guy is using his DK2 lense to view one very close up. He said himself take this with a grain of salt (others more technical than me will be able to comment on the value of the test). He got replies from people who had tried Gear VR saying it was very similar to their experience. Something I noticed was the 'linen' effect on the clothing which others have mentioned in Crescent bay.
