I wish I had the gumption to explore such distant regions. I'd love to see them but the getting there is such a slog.

In order to make such a long trip pleasant and less overwhelming, it is best to take your time and, like any other big project, break it into smaller sections. In my case, I first headed to Colonia and rested there for a few days. Then I aimed toward the center of the galaxy and also rested and explored the area; after this I headed toward Rykers's Hope and explored a bit and finally I headed toward the galactic rim in Mare Somnia, Acheron, and the Abyss. By doing this a 60,000 LY trip does not seem overwhelming, especially if you take a ship with long jump range (by this I mean at least 60 LY laden jump range).

Imagine how it must have been for the pioneers who reached such distant places when there was no FSD booster, no long range route plotters, no jumponium, and no engineering.

Also basically what i am doing.
The only thing engineered what i have is the DSS.
In other news i have found the perfect song for the FSS

Is there a way that this will be automatically played when i have the FSS activated?

Don't think so... great song though!

Mind you, every time activating the FSS causes this to play... it might wear thin quite quickly!

If I were to listen to an alternative soundtrack via an external player (MusicBee, Dopamine etc.), I'd probably have a playlist by Solar Fields or Astropilot.

So I've joined the galactic nuisance and purchased a FC! all me ships and modules have been transferred over
I have refuel, repair & armoury
1st impressions are of feeling a bit like jumping in a deep end, it's not very friendly is it? a lot of trial and error at the moment

one thing I can't seem to get is the Livery? it's not giving me the option from the management and when i go from the the carrier service tab it's in relation to the ship im sitting in
what am I missing??

No "Universal Cartographics"? Handy for exploration but if you're not into that aspect, there's no point.

plan is to get some experience with the carrier before going off in the black, fancy doing a bit of large scale trading, scavenging, maybe collect some rare goods/guardian/thargoid stuf, earn a phat load of credits and ultimately go travelling, got the alt account to then faf about in the bubble for when odyssey drops

I'm hoping you don't have to go back to the bubble to purchase stuff when odyssey drops, would be cool to be on the other side of the galaxy and have a walk about so far away

Well, after a year and 3 weeks of playing, I finally did that pointless thing that had meaning to me at some point but now I have lost it. Elite rank in Trading and Exploring without one single enemy ship destroyed nor one single gram of ore mined.

That seems odd. Does it let you choose your jump location from the "navigation" icon and start the countdown? At what point do you get the sidewinder? Have you tried a log?

Wtih the livery, again, odd. Let's see if you can jump then try again. Something is awry with the icon being greyed out.

Coincidentally, I'm in that system and it all looks good to me

Carriers don't do SC: their only movement is a jump into hyperspace once the jump destination has been selected from "navigation" -> "open galaxy map". A different process to jumping a ship.

Tritium... yeah, that's a weird one. You have to transfer to to your ship first then "deposit" it via the tritium depot. A stange mechanism but there you go. I asked about that on the last AMA. Bring a ship with tons of storage.

Yep!

You can place loads of commodites in the carrier hold, including trit of course. The only way to get trit for your carrier to use is via the "deposit" in the depot.
