Post Odyssey dreams?

I can't believe Frontier have beaten me down so much that my "dreams" are so unambitious (and I can't believe they don't "have any plans" to do this for Odyssey launch) but ...

Better bookmarks.

Please? (It really isn't much to ask)
And in a marvelous display of misunderstanding but still trying to be helpful....

Bitter bookmarks? Sure, we can make all of them taste bitter. Update comes in on Tuesday of next week. Glad to help out.

Proper colonization mechanics I.e colonize unpopulated star systems as well as building structures in those systems as needed
This would definitely be very cool - when EVE introduced player-owned stations this led to a bunch of new gameplay especially in wormhole space but as well in all of New Eden. it will require quite an amount of additional storage though, because players will go wild with this. it could as well lead to new powerplay in so far uninhabited systems.

1. More types of combat zones (in different locations like in asteroid belts, in planets, in in planetary rings, also more scenerios). Also connected to more complex missions.
I assume we will have on foot combat zones or however they will bne called.
2. Better scavanging with ability of dismounting wrecks in space and in planets, not just collecting scattered cargo, also connected to more complex missions.
3. Many SRV types and roles, Tank/mobile armor, mining/utility/scavanging , hovercraft/skimmer, etc on more planet types. lava/water worlds/ atmosferics/ gas giants.

Heya Commanders, our lovely Librarian had a nice idea for next week's episode of Lave Radio (live from 20:30 GMT on Tuesday 2nd March)

After Odyssey is released what are the top three features you want Frontier to Focus on? (so let's not include the inevitable bug fixes etc!!!)

Here are some starters for 10...

@Phoenix_Dfire
  • Update VR for walking around
  • Power Play
  • Updates to Crime and Punishment

@EidLeWeise
  • Walking around our ships
  • New SRVs (I especially want a ground vehicle that's like a speeder bike from Star Wars)
  • Make High Security Systems safe, and Anarchies terrifying
Earthlikes, Caves, water, EVA, ship to ship boarding, aliens to fight, custom ships, more ship kits, mission creation tools, custom paint jobs, more ways to kill myself without training wheels, life jackets and bubble wrap, able to engage in piracy without being banned by the developers, camera suite overhaul, stargates, base building...............and last just make one available package across the board I'm sick of base, horizons and odyssey argument when it's all dirt cheap! Think about it COD is charging 20bucks for a skin and two statistic guns and killing the game?

Caves might be problematic - a height map is by default flat - a 2d element like a texture or an avatar skin. With caves it would have to be a 3d element, more like a voxel body.

Of course it would be possible to mix both - having a flat height map for most of the planet and just in certain areas a size limited voxel body replacing part of the height map. Voxel bodies require far more memory than height maps and it might not even be that common to find one due to memory requirements for these caves. Another possibility would be to use meshes to build caves out of elements, like tunnels, different sized rooms. I built one of my homes in Second Life out of such elements. The disadvantage in relation to the voxel system is that this kind of caves cannot be changed by digging, whereas this would be possible with voxel body caves. The mesh variant wouldn't be memory intensive on the other side - but it might feel quite repetitive - think of caves a la The Elder Scrolls Oblivion - constructed with cave mesh elements.

Fix ubiquitous lag and instancing issues.
Odyssey purports to have full combat scenarios with foot, ground and ships involved.

With the current lag and instancing issues, I really don't see the above happening smoothly except in Solo mode. What is the use of engineered scopes if you do not share the same instance with your team? What's the use of engineered scopes if your target is rubberbanding and siezing?

My ships get shadow rammed all the time. Will we get shadow punched in Odyssey melee?

Ideas are great, but the applications have to be thoroughly tested and working well. Otherwise Odyssey PvP will end up like Multicrew.

In order of preference:

1) Other planet types to land on, with large scale cities on ELWs in the bubble
2) Ship legs and EVA
3) More to find when exploring both, in space and on the surface (flora, fauna, wrecks)
4) More ships and other vehicles
5) Ability to deploy a building fabricator on a planet and have it construct a dwelling based on a design bought in advance (more fabricators required for more complex designs) and a couple of units of consumer goods to fit it out (i.e. base building)
