Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

The guy is negative to the extreme and spends more time slating and being non-constructive, to further his channel and rack up the clicks. If it is channel specific, then stump up the cash like everyone else and give something back to the people who support him, rather than just trying to bum things for free. A lot of these "content creators", like "Instagram influencers" offer nothing, but a way for them to make money, with controversial comments to stoke up likes and subscribes

Lets all discuss the topic, and not what YOU think is motivating another poster.

Thanks all.
OK, the topic is "Give Yamiks an alpha key" and my opinion is pretty much what Popalu said, basically no, Frontier don't owe Yamiks anything so Yamiks should buy an alpha key like everyone else. I could elaborate further, but I think you understand how I feel about this.

EDIT, If Yamiks gets a free alpha key, I want one. I don't need it, and would gift it to someone who couldn't afford it. In return I would review Odyssey as a content creator.

I don't know. As console player I just don't want another knife in my back like FDev did with delayed release on consoles. I had no any negative opinion until that announcement, but that just broke something in me. I guess trust its name.
Fleet carriers are what broke me. I mean just completely destroyed my love for this game then I stared to get back some hype because of Odyssey then it got delayed. Hype is cooled then us console pesants have to wait till Autumn and my hype was doused by a big bucked of ice cold water.

Whilst playing the game (not counting the 8pm server bounce) in between bits you watch videos about the game? Boy you love this game. :) I'm teasing of course because I'm on the forum during all those times. I get what you're saying and if I wanted to watch a video about the game I guess I would be more likely to watch one of his, as you later point out, he is more succinct with the information.
Hehe yeah, I'm somewhat addicted to Elite I should probably seek help. Seriously though it's to keep sticking to it, if I started watching other games' footage I'd be inclined to Alt + F4 and play that instead:) It's also easier to do this on PC where a browser is a mere Alt Tab away; though I've got to admit that Elite is the only game where I feel this is necessary, am way too busy in other games to get sidetracked with surfing the web (and that includes slow sims like FS2020!).

I also get that Yamiks' style is not to everyone's taste but he clearly has a market and his serious views on the game, even when presented in a puerile way do carry some merit. Not all but some. Some folk like classical, some folk like punk. It's all music, you listen to what pleases you I suppose, or even, what you're isn the mood for.
Personally I think it's a shame he decided to go down that particular path with his channel; while I'm sure it attracts a certain crowd I do wonder how many more he puts off. His choice of course and if it works for him... but for me personally, he has sort of poisoned the well with his schtick, even if he'd calm down, stop swearing and remove the toilet humour I wouldn't bother with his channel. It's a viewer's market out there and there's plenty of other Tubers vying for attention.

Criticism is good for Elite, as it is any game, as long as it's delivered respectfully and constructively. There are certainly quarters of the Elite community who resent even that.

However, Yamiks' feedback on the game borders on personally offensive to the devs. He has called them "", for example. I would not feel compelled to give someone privileged access to something I helped make if I knew that that person used slurs about the mentally ill about me. Would you?

I don't dislike Yamiks at all - my dealings with him have been positive, and certainly some of his criticism of the game itself has been spot-on, in my view. But I certainly don't think Frontier should feel obliged to give privileged access to someone who makes a living from personally insulting them.

It's their game, and it's unsurprising that they choose to give privileged access to people who don't insult them. Nobody "deserves" a free alpha key, or any other form of privileged access: each and every one is within the gift of Frontier to give to who they choose. They're not a right.

My love for Elite isn't ruined, I just lost my trust for the developers. On the other side they created game of my life, so... I don't know if it works in english, in Hungary we say only important person can really hurt you.

It is another feature of thee game I like, I don't have to be glued to the screen, I can look away. Chess is a great game but you don't have to stare at the board, Candy Crush....well.

Yeah, it is his 'thing' now, that 'thing' he does. People get trapped in that stuff, they often learn to resent it. Typecast actors, always playing the fool but want to be serious Shakespearean actors or bands that had one hit 20 years ago trying to promote new stuff just get endless requests to 'play that other one'.

If he's happy with his market share, I'm sure he'll carry on forever.

As far as I understood it Yamiks was more confused then angry that he was not considered a "core content creator" when he's actually #2 in subscribers with only Obsidian Ant having more. But due to his usual delivery this came across wrong.
Given the title and description of the video, I'm not so sure about that.

No. He's just the leading critic. I became a fan of him during the fleet carrier debacle. When fdev dropped fleet carrier upkeep from 150M a week to 25 every content creator was happy and praising fdev about it except him. I didn't want upkeep at all. 0. I called it for what it was, a manipulation tactic and he was the only youtuber saying that despite the fact that the forums were on fire about it.
So presumably you don't like videos where he's not criticising Elite? Also the forums are always on fire and have been for 7 years now 😂

not really proof ... a convincing abstract of the offenses, possibly with some linked material. i can't simply label someone as an abuser because someone says "he is, i saw it" without further detail. for context, thistle pointed at his youtube material: i have seen no abuse there, criteria is apparently not universal, and when it comes to shut out a person, these details are really important.
There have been plenty of videos where he has called for developers to be fired and called individuals incompetent. I guess it's what you define as abuse really isn't it.

indeed and you're welcome to share it. but to me your post looks very much like "blame and shame" aggravated by the blame not being substantiated, and used to promote the disqualification of a person's position in a discussion. ad-hominem rings a bell? in short: you don't care because you don't like him, so screw him. it really doesn't get more toxic and i would expect otherwise from a moderator.
I'm not "promoting the disqualification of a person's position in a discussion" at all. I am not a fan of his videos and I do not like his attitude, but at no point did I say screw him. And at no point have I said he doesn't deserve one. Ad-hominem? Are you talking about his video?

I did not use my experiences of him at any point to say Frontier should not provide him with a free Alpha key, I used it to ask a question. My whole point has been trying to understand why people:
a) think he is more deserving of a free key than those who got them
b) don't believe that Frontier have a limited amount of keys
c) care

I would appreciate it if you didn't imply I said things I clearly haven't.

Can't say I like/enjoy it, but I've gotten used to it. I mentioned FS2020 which you could in theory play similarly (say if you embark on a long-haul flight in realtime) but when bushflying the sim tends to keep me engaged and busy by having to keep an eye on instruments, navigation and just simply taking in the sights (last night I explored Edinburgh and surroundings, having ran the half marathon there twice I was able to follow the route of the course at low altitude while the sun set through some scattered clouds; marvellous stuff). Elite struggles with filling the entire gameplay loop with meaningful player interactions - I suppose space being largely empty doesn't really help lol.

I love ED and I have (had) absolutely no beef with Fdev whatsoever. However, right here Fdev are crashing and burning big time. Yes, Yamiks is a provocative son of a gun in some cases (most cases), which is why some of us find his videos about our favorite game hilarious and highly entertaining, but he's is pretty balanced in his critique of both the game and Fdev. Look at his Star Citizen videos, if you want to see Yamiks really spew fire, again for all the good reasons in the Universe.

This story reminds me of Hardware Unboxed vs Nvidia, where an honest review, after a stupid attempt to show "power", ended op with Nvidia begging for mercy while the Youtuber ended up being able to buy all the graphics cards he wants. I guess you can't fix stupid, and that history repeats itself. My sympathy is 100% on Yamiks side in this case, which kind of proves the point, because that leaves 0% for Fdev, and honestly that is not Yamiks fault, so who else could it be?

I suppose because I play racing games also, just nice to look away.
