The FFED3D Thread

tractor beam

I've been playing this for about a week or so now and loving it! Not having played it before - only Elite and Frontier. I'm currently having a problem scooping up all the goodies (including the flight recorder) in the first Argent's quest. My auto pilot is not up to the job as it get the item close and then it flies away at great speed. Tried it manually and can get it close, but not quite.

Any tips?

your right about the studio,there was a great web page that listed all the faults on the vids.Has anyone got a copy/link to it?.

Maybe one of the mods can tell us a bit more about them?.And definitely cgi for the next one:)

I too would be curious about the background and 'production' that went into these:D This has come up before and I think they were all actors (in the loosest of definitions!) But I kinda like them as well - like you said - they're so bad they're good.

LOL only if you don't mind A good ol Kiwi lads (yes Kiwi not Australian) accent turning up every now and then.

Cereal tho, once you've played something like Mass Effect and seen the clever diversity they have in alien creatures you come to appreciate what can be accomplished. One of the things that got lost somewhere between Elite and Frontier was the massive diversity of creatures on different planets. I'm not suggesting that there should be a back peddling to the original creatures but a little added alien life could really spice things up a bit.

It's at LOTF and very good it is too :D


Hahaha Brilliant - Clearly there was no attempt at using a sound room - not even using some old egg cartons to muffle the walls a bit. Nice find.

I wonder though however, how much of the old games will be in the new E4.

It probably will be CGI Characters, with or without the velcro gloves.....ahem
 
Yeah, the journals in FFE were a definite success. They helped to remind you that there was a whole galaxy of people out there and things didn't just revolve around you...
Seconded.

Regarding the russian mod, I'll give it another shot when all the ships are remade and issues with celestial bodies are resolved. So far it's very promising but not really worth it - yet.

Totally agree, they worked so well in making the Elite universe more substantial, especially as if you didn't pay attention you would miss out on things like the Wiccan Ware Race, the medical run and of course the Argents Quest.

I'd love to see it continue but not in a video format but keeping to the style it was so you could dip in whenever you want.

The Russian mod is certainly worth a shot but what I've found frustrating is, basically, my lack of Russian :eek:
As a result I have to try to work out what's happening on the project via the Google translator which sometimes makes even less sense than the original Russian text!
For example, I would like to have a go at redesigning one of the ships - perhaps the Panther or Griffin - but haven't the foggiest where to start :(

Boy I know what you mean about that translator:)

Anyhow if you want to have a go at redesigning one of the ships, There's two ways of doing it.
note you will have to know about 3d modeling uv unwrap texturing ect.

1 if you want to model it,you first have to check the list on Elite-games make sure it not been done or someone else is working on it.be aware that there is also a polygon limit for the models.

Load the game find the ship.Buy it then press ctrl=f9 this will export all the model data in the game screen to the export folder in FFE3D.

You now need to find the model,use the directx viewer on page 2 of elite-games English forum to see them.

you now need to get the model into a 3D programme and build it

Now this I think is the biggest problem with working on FFE3D,you basically need a copy of 3dsmax and a plug in to get model data into the 3d prog then back into the game.As far as I understand it,it's to do with the directx format.

you can save the model using the viewer which can then be loaded into any 3d prog,but so far the only way to get the model back in the game is through maxs.

2 Submit a drawing to the guy over at Elite-games.

By the way Iam pinback on elite-games forum.

ps Steve jahell has fixed the landing gear on the cobra model:D
