It's a little bit boring procedure, and I hope English version of log in and registration will be prepared soon.
 
look on the top of the page,click on the word "BXOA".

This should take you to the log in, log in as normal

look down to the "Kahan npoekta Elite 3 noa Direct 3d" thread click on it

Then click on for English speaking user.

Then post as normal click on the word "otnpabhtb" to send

There is no "T.j" in the base (but there is turwhitt).
Can you post screenshot of your login atempt or activation letter text here.
 
Actually i'm going to work on some textures of the game.
I'm trying to replace some of them with better ones..
I'm experienced about it just from thief2.
For now only for my pleasure... i wanna see a better looking of this good Russian conversion.

when i can i will post some screens.

I was thinking about the possibility of adding other astronomical objects in to the game, like black holes being one of the most important ones. I think it would be fun to slingshot around one although I have no idea how hard that will be. Would implementing such an object be a case of increasing the gravity of a planet, moon and stellar object to infinite and making it dark ? Of course when you get sucked in to one, you just explode as usual i.e. ripped apart by gravity. You could have a black hole at the center of a solar system, in orbit around a large star etc. If it can be done then maybe we could add that illusive super-massive black hole at the center of the galaxy that people have searched for and never found ;) :). Maybe a bitmap can be added to represent it on the map but creating a custom system so you can fly to it and explore the stars in orbit near it would be great. Maybe some of these stars will have planets and moons of their own, would make a nice view. You could add rings to some of them as well to represent the accretion discs that they can have.

Another feature would be nebulae ? What's the possibility of implementing them ? Maybe have them in the background in systems that are near to the ones implemented in the game, although I don't know how many actually are. Maybe more can be added to the galaxy. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is the Dumbbell nebula, but it's just a flat graphic on the map.

I will create an account on the Russian site at some stage, but until then can someone from there post this question on the Russian site for me, please ?

Aha! Please excuse me; I don't want to seem pedantic, but it's a subject that fascinates me. :eek:

A black hole doesn't really have infinite gravity, as such. If it did, then just one of them would generate enough tidal force to rip the universe apart. But outside the event horizon the gravity well would be fairly similar to whatever the body was before it collapsed. That's still going to be a fairly hefty pull, of course (small masses don't collapse into singularities); but only inside the horizon does the force of a black hole really become unmanageable, in that the escape velocity rises to the speed of light.

But yes, you could slingshot around a black hole in just the same way you might slingshot around a star or planet. As long as you retain or generate enough speed to maintain an open orbit once you pass periapsis - the point of closest approach to the body - you'd be fine. Just be sure you don't cross the horizon. Actually you'd probably survive the crossing. To an outside observer watching your ship approaching the hole, you'd appear to slow down, then stop dead. The observer wouldn't see you cross the horizon, but they'd see you fade from sight as the light from your ship redshifted down the spectrum.

From your point of view, though - assuming the hole's big enough, anyway - you might not even notice you'd crossed the horizon at all. Not at first, anyway. And with a witchdrive you might even be able to jump your way out (though I dread to think what the singularity would do to your nav calculations). The problem is that because of the massive time dilation at and inside the event horizon, you'd probably emerge into a dead universe: the outside world would have advanced millions, maybe billions of years - maybe all the time there is - in the time it took you to initiate the jump.

I'm not sure I'd know how to go about modelling all that in-game, though... ;)

i am just trying... some textures are just changed... but i don't show you 'cause the aren't good enough.
Btw i think there could be some copyright problems with those textures since i catch them on internet and resized.
So there will be no a share version of this one.
But dunno... may be with the time on my side i will make some textures from my own and then i will pass them to the russia community to make the upload for everyone.

It's a subject that fascinates me as well, I guess that's why I'd like to see one in the game :). I thought I had it all figured out lol, but thanks for correcting me on that one :). It would take infinite mass in order to have infinite gravity and it was said on an article that I read recently that even the black hole at our galaxy's core has a mass of 4 million suns so, like you said, it's not infinite but that figure is astounding.

Simulating that, even from 1st person perspective, sounds like a lot of work to code. I remember some screen shots posted on alt.fan.elite a while ago of a hoax that someone had found the black hole at the center of the galaxy in the game and it was just a large oval black shape. As the screen shots progressed it got larger until the player supposedly fell in to the event horizon and then some white photon streaks could be seen. Then there was complete darkness and an explosion of the ship at the end. I wonder if I can find that on Google ?

As said above, it would be hard to code but if these objects are going to be in Elite IV I'm now wondering how the dev team are going to implement them.

Hi all, merry Christmas. Im a longtime lurker here, and finally I see a reason to come in out of the cold ;)

This mod is awesome. Could be the best thing since JJFFE.

Anyway, im after a bit of help. Ive been trying to add some models to the game, as after adding in some custom textures, I realised that they can only look so good without a better model.

heres a pic of some of the ones I have modified so far. Modified on the right, originals on the left:

They're not too good I know, but they are better than the originals, but everytime I try to add them in I get a crash.
Has anyone else succesfully added in models to the game?

Btw in case anyone is interested, it takes about 2 minutes to make a model like the ones above. Each one was made using the original mesh, and applying CatamulClark at level 2 or 3, and sometimes a subsurf division at level 2 prior to the catamulclark(spelling?).
This means that if we can figure out how to get them back into the game, we could have a quick and dirty replacement to every model in the game in about a day or 2, until the real ones are made.

I discover recently this superb project ! It's very great, before i prefered Frontier at FFE, but now I love FFE ! :D

I hope a good issue, and complete version with tunnel targeting fonctionnal, new sounds FX and ship locator in orbital system as FE2 ... i dream !!!

But in same time i am disappointed, in france a vast majority of people of board they are indifferent to this news. It's too late for à return of FFE ? :(

Downloaded these yesterday and will try to give them a try over the long weekend. No doubt they won't work and I'll be back here.

This might be the impetus to force me to give FFE another try, as like many others I gave up on it almost straight away after I died several times in space battles before I even knew what was happening. :eek:

I know what you mean, but there are still plenty of FFE fans around. Many games like Eve online and X 1-3 would never have been made if it werent for Elite, and Im sure many of the people who play those games got their first Space Fix in an Eagle ;)
