Current CGs - is this some kind of joke?

Is that why there was no "participate in CG" livestream for this? I would have loved to watch them relog for an hour. 😜

Yes, Frontier clearly endorses the Jameson crash site relogging method. Otherwise there is no way people can gather those huge amount of data. Well maybe Bug Killer relogging method too which is slower.

I'm currently at Jameson's crash site, just to see what the spoils are (been here once before). Just imagining how much re-logging is required to even get to the top 25% is making me dizzy. Are people really that desperate for credits? I'm actually not even signing up to this crap. Hope the CMDRs involved have a blast :ROFLMAO:

What's the point of dedicating several months on credit rebalancing and then coming up with CGs like this? Mental.
Frontier are strange creatures, but cash in whilst you can if you want to secure additional Carrier upkeep. The data relogs take less than 10 minutes pending reloads and the stacks give 10k per hand in average. A few runs secures top 10%, really.

Why Fdev thought this was good makes little sense, though. Especially when Odyssey will drop and missions will pay out peanuts. Conditioning greed ain't a good thing 😂

8 billion for a CG reward I can kinda say ok why not, as credits are pointless really now anyway.
But the highest ever CG reward being offered for a CG which encourages the use of an Exploit is a sad day for Elite Dangerous.

If Fdev says its not an exploit, thats even worse as it means they designed the game with the intention of logging out to the menu and back in in order to respawn Items.
Which I doubt was the intention.

I didn't even have to play the re-log game (only tried it a couple of times to see what and how many mats are spawning there, and what the griefer situation was on-site), I converted a small portion of the mats I already had into credits, 700m.... I honestly don't even know what to do with those credits (which are on top of 1.7bn in cash I already have, on top of a fleet that I consider pretty much 'done'). FC upkeep is a drop in the ocean, I could leave the game for over a year and I'd be fine. In fact I'm starting to think whether the initial Beta figures for upkeep (wasn't that around 150m per week?) wasn't all that far off after all....

Well, reloggining was just an unintended side effect of other systems. They said it wasn't an exploit probably because it's not something easily fixed, and really, there is no point in punishing people for it, they'd just be shooting themselves in the foot if they did. I do expect it to eventually be patched out considering they said they were keeping a close eye on it a week or so agao during a stream.

Carriers cost over 1 billion per year fully laden, so they do start to strip away at cash, and that's not including any crew members eating income also. The game has plenty credit sinks, so it doesn't surprise me that people want to secure money like this.

I do expect it to eventually be patched out considering they said they were keeping a close eye on it a week or so agao during a stream.

They said that in the AMA threads from November and December last year.
Then we got 2 Encoded Materials CG that vastly benefited from relogging.

My Expectations are quite low.
Not because of fixing the relogging, but because fixing actually means introducing valid and consistent ways of getting encoded materials.

Nobody needs punishing for wanting to progress efficiently.

They need encouraging to try other activities.

If other activities offered ample rewards then there would be less reasons to relog.

If you don't care about the reward, why do you care about people getting it ? Since the "exploit", as you call it, is open to everybody, then the competition was fair.

So what was the issue ? Oh yeah, people did it in a way you don't like, so they must be wrong. And if Fdev say they are not wrong, then they are wrong to.

Now, if you ask me, the biggest flaw of the CG, which is common with powerplay, was how to redeem the mats. Without macro, it was a soul crushing experience, and that need fixing.

On a side note, can I have a good laugh because people say it's unrealistic to relog, while apparently it's dumping dozens of "Cracked industrial firmware" (whatever that means) will suddenly makes my laser shoot further away.

The question really is whether this type of CG is good enough for people to have a good time, or not.

It seems that people participate despite the underlying mechanics, as opposed to because of them - the carrot simply being outrageous rewards with the potential to instantly obtain the funds required for every purchasable asset in the game, including an FC.

If it is good enough, then frankly I don't see any reason why Frontier would feel they'd have to come up with something more engaging and less tedious in the future.

I still regard loading a single 752t T9 with PP merits as infinitely more idiotic than unloading the same amount of materials at the CG
Loading 10000 merits to get PP Rank 5 (in a single week)... 🤦‍♂️
It's still the same underlying issue, and it needs fixing.

Is it really different than hauling stuff ? Besides the relog part, everything else is very much similar.

Was it fun ? For me, no, for some perhaps. Even though I do like landing on planet, I'll admit. But I don't have that much fun when I haul stuff for a CG either. Some people like it.

I certainly spend less time staring at loading screens and boring menus while twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to be over when I fly a spaceship from A to B.

Just saw your edit - also just to mention again that you didn't even need to visit Jameson's if you already had mats in stock, I could've skipped that part completely. Hauling at a CG is fun for me as long as I do it in Open, as NPCs aren't sufficiently reliable as a threat as much as players, and I like a good blockade run now and then.
