Destroyed for no reason?

Out of curiosity, I'm genuinely baffled by why you would be genuinely sorry to hear that? Surely you would be glad for me to stay out of your way as far as is humanly possible? Perhaps you could elucidate a little further for my education please?
I'm sorry to hear it's not your cup of tea, just like so many other people, who can't find enjoyment in the thrill of it being a wild west, where everything goes.

Naturally, it would be ideal if everyone could just enjoy it, and adapt, instead of trying to make it something bland and uninteresting.

Susanna just answered it a minute ago. Seems like she gets it after all. I stand corrected. :)
The 'Wild West' is one thing, as I've said in a different thread, it's not PVP in and of itself I have a problem with, it's players whose sole purpose is to upset other players.

'Mining Salt' isn't my thing, so I prefer not to give those kind of players a target. I also happen to think that those kind of players shouldn't be allowed to ruin other peoples days 'for the lulz'.

My kind of game play (exploring Goid and Guardian sites for example) isn't bland and uninteresting to me 🙂 it's sad that it's such a marginalised part of ED.
It's not about finding a 'thrill' in it for me, PvP just isn't my thing. I'm just not that kind of competitive person that feels that winning over someone else is an achievement. I get a lot more satisfaction when I help someone else out (which I've done many times in ED). I'm more of a collaborative person than a competitive one and I suspect that is the root of the difference between us maybe?

If the game had any other consequences apart from the 5% rebuy cost and the added liabilities the players bind themselves with (paper ship, exploration data on board), I'd get where the salt is coming from. As it stands, it's hardly anything to get upset over.

Imagine if you had a 50% rebuy cost... Or better yet, lost your ship.

you can die in almost every game. you can die in Doom - will it ruin your day?
That isn't the point of my comment, and you know it.
I just don't understand how 'seal clubbing' can be enjoyable, unless you are the sort of person that enjoys bullying others. PVP for BGS, Piracy, etc. is not what myself, and others, have a problem with.

To take your 'Doom' example, if I was constantly placed against players that had the best weapons, knew the maps, and were of a higher skill level than me, when I wanted to have a fair game against players of a similar level, then yes, it probably would 'ruin my day', as I would have been looking forward to simply having a laugh pew pewing, rather than constantly being head shot.

100% Hard agree with you here.

I'm not referring to your taste as bland, mind you. I'm talking about open, that was sanitized to death.

I'm also more of a casual gamer. Elite is an exception in my library. Only reason I stayed a few years back because I still preferred getting killed a lot in this game over letting go of this amazing space sim.

You fitted a 5E shield? Why? Sounds like you are trying to fly a ship you don't have the cash to spec it out properly. Make sure you have the Rebuy cost or there will be more tears!
This was how I fitted it out last time I played before I gave the game a break about a year or so ago.

No the difference is, there's 1 court , 1 basketball in play and a limited number of ways in which to deal with someone you dont want to play / interact with that doesn't require their cooperation.

In this game, there's literally thousands of effectively identical systems to play basketball in. There's an infinite number of balls. There's a bunch of ways to eliminate unwanted players from your game requiring no effort or cooperation from the party in question.

Grow up. If someone blows you up in this game for any reason, it's because you allowed it. The only person you should be mad at when that happens is yourself if you get mad at all.

These threads and the people who start them are the problem with this game. Players who expect their poor decisions and planning and/or crap skill to be catered to rather than taking responsibility for their own choices that led to where they're at in the game and learning/adapting to achieve their goals using what they have at their disposal. Not the actions of other players (unless they're cheating).

So given that perspective ... what do you make of the people that spend MANY hours running the Fuel Rats group? Are they just poor deluded saps that should just let the poor buggers die and learn the hard way? While I tend to follow a more middle-of-the-road course on this point (would you drive a car and not realise you need to put fuel in it?), I can only applaud their efforts to help other people! Yet this is directly a case of being dependent upon the actions of other players (to help).
