You'd think a mod would have merged this thread with the other 4 billion others by now. It's been discussed ad infinitum ad nauseam; there will be drone cams, it will be put in later. Fin.

If you can't contribute anything useful, then don't reply. You already said once that this question was asked beore, no need to come again and spam the same thing again. If there are people interested in the conversation, let it happen.

You would think a Mod would have banned you by now if you show this sort of passive-aggressive trolling on the forums.

You don't need a 3rd person camera to crash a ship. I mean, really, are you serious? I can do it whenever i want now itself.

What's with all the hate from some people towards a simple thing as a 3rd person camera. The only reason i want it is for my travels across the galaxy to be more enjoyable and being able to view my ship when it's flying.

And for the people with the snarky tones towards "pretty screenshots", have you ever looked at the photos in the newsletters we get?

Hey, you have a problem with the word "pretty" then go buy a dictionary.

No, I don't want you flying your ship from outside your ship. That's a foot in the door for the 3rd person crowd and I want nothing to do with it. When you're in 3rd person I want you harmless.

what YOU want is of no interest for me

i allso dont care what the stupid barking dog of the neibors wants th whole ... day.. but im sure if he doesnt shup up soon and goes on barking all day even the weekend he gets a poisen candy from me very soon

Jeezzzz guys it's not that big a deal. You do yourself more harm riling yourself up worrying that another player might be in third person than a person in actual 3pv could do to you. You will need blood pressure medication if you keep this up.
Hiply Rustic that's called a "slippery slope" argument, you are wanting to deny a feature to people now because you are scared that it will evolve and morph into something you fear?

Jay, I disagree.

I believe that allowing 3rd person POV while flying is too short a step from allowing 3rd person POV while flying and fighting for it not to be a valid concern and not some paranoid 3rd or 4th step-removed slippery slope. It's one step.

you need a lot more than just 3pv to make that viable though. The hud needs to work, weapons need to converge. No one in Star Citizen can hit anything in first person, much less in their third person view. If you try to fight with it you will die by some kid playing with a mouse and keyboard. It's not fun, it's not something that motivates you to do it again. And on top of that, here people want the addition of no 3pv while in battle, that really takes any other concerns one would have away. The only thing I could see using 3pv for to get an actual in game advantage, would be to hide behind an asteroid or something, and peek around it with 3pv. Something you could not do without it. But judging by the extraordinary amounts of asteroids in any given area with asteroids... I just don't see that being a viable strategy to do anything either.

Those are probably fair points, Jay. I'm still concerned though. I went down this road with Mechwarrior where we were promised that the 3rd person PoV would be designed and implemented so that in no way would it create an advantage. That, of course, was . So, pardon my tone but I've seen it happen already and I would prefer it not happen here.

like it was allready said devs working on external cams

they want money .. they want to sell ship paintings and decals

WE WANT TO SEE WHAT WE PAY FOR

point.

if ya need more read the last post in page 2

Understandable, but keep in mind your signature. You don't want to be the voice that ruined something all these other people want, because of knee jerk reaction to something Mechwarriors did to you. Also, I know you give DB more credit than that :) I know he doesn't want Star Conflict arcade fighting.

"Honestly, I could care less about seeing my ship while outside the station. I get that it would be nice for the screenshot aspect, but, that hardly seems to justify the time spent coding it into the game when there are so many other things needing to get sorted out."

You may have noticed the cool videos frontier is using to advertise E: D and the beautiful screenshots of Cobras, Vipers, Eagles etc. ALL in external view?

An external view may need a key binding and a query that game is in solo play... 2-3 hours plus a little testing that the query works. The external view is already there, just locked to the players (devs only).
They should advertise that: "No external view for players available!" - "Screenshots and Videos other than cockpit view do NOT represent actual ingame views!"

Yes, I feel a bit cheated. After paying 120 EUR for a beta the second thing after leaving the station was trying to get the external view to look at the beautiful ships I've seen in the videos and advertisements.
NOTHING! I couldn't believe it!

You could allow 3rd person camera views in game that can pan, rotate, zoom, make coffee. Then when you enter combat, it locks 1st person view or 1st person with a pip popup of 3rd person like virtual mirrors. Yup.

You give the explorers and people that want camera views and cater to the the people that want to only look out a front window.

OK! I'm now a little concerned. We are at Beta 3 with just Gamma to go. From my understanding, Gamma will basically be feature complete, so if you were going to test a feature like external views, surely it should be done in a Beta phase?

So are FD so confident of their solution for external views, they're happy to introduce it super late, or we not going to get it?

External Camera available in SOLO PLAY

Yep! Exactly... a simple standard feature everybody is used to, since 1985, just to have a nice view around my ship and enjoy the cinematic quality of the graphics.

So if this really is the majorities concern, they simply need to lock external view to SOLO play, as the NPC/AI won't bother about the "tactical advantage" of an external camera?

...as the 'Drone' approach might bring up the usual 3rd person, cheating, unfair advantage argument AGAIN, simply give us external view like in ALL promotional videos etc. and to calm down the cheater faction, limit it to SOLO play. No harm done to gameplay and balance, yet everybody can have the beauty shots he craves since first starting the engines.
