Like I always say its best to drive your own bandwagon... else you will never get where you are going
I've followed OA since way, way back. You know, when he came here to say he couldn't make vids because his computer broke down. I stopped following him some time ago. Check this video:I've said it before, I'll say it again. So many people have gone out and bought a camera and a snazzy microphone and started a Youtube channel. There are dozens upon dozens of ones purely focused on Elite Dangerous. There are only two I pay attention to, and that's OA and D2EA.
Both have slowly accumulated hundreds of thousands of followers (I think Astro is just short of 100k actually). They are 100% entitled to their opinion, and I believe what negativity they've shown has been measured and justified.
I don't fault them for their opinions, nor do I think that they have any sort of "responsibility" to deliver any sort of message.
Personally I ostracized Yamicks due to his repeated claims the FD staff should be 'sexually abused' (use other terms if you can think of them) everytime he wasn't happy with something. I dont care if people dont like this or that game, but what Yamicks repeatedly said is beyond the pale. Its not 'locker room talk'. Regardless of the state of the game, Yamicks, and anyone who condones that kind of garbage, is simply not a very nice person.Yamicks was laughed at and basically ostracized because he was "always negative".
They do beneifit from short term sensasionalism and echo chamber discussion though.
The problems with Odyssey's launch have been obvious but the only way they're likely to be resolved is with developer's patient hard work, clear heads and not having the funding rug pulled out .. especially by people who owe their patreon account balances to the content they exploit. I think the "content creators" (sic.) have developed a sense of panic. Good for them because it creates clicks, not so good for anyone else.
What they should do is stick to the game content / performance entirely and not start attack narratives on the devs, their communication or even their development strategy. Camplaining about unknown management decisions is clear undermining of confidence in the people involved that has nothing to do with anything. (@Obsidian Ant )

That I agree with. If "content creators" are whipping players into a frenzy, and are now organizing an exodus (there is something not sitting right with me that in the space of a couple of days, so many of them are suddenly lockstep migrating to SC... it's almost like they had a conference about it and agreed to jump together?) which in turn is contributing to the harassment of devs and whatnot, then yes that is a negative thing. They do beneifit from short term sensasionalism and echo chamber discussion though.

If you consider loyalty to be endlessly dumping on something for the peanut gallery whilst shaking the patreon tin, then yes. Personally, I don't.And yet he is so loyal to Elite: Dangerous that he's probably one of the last streamers left.
Ironic.
But it's their channel. They can do what they like.![]()
Evidently that's the way it is,t doesn't mean it's healthy though. The people who kickstarted the game for example, have supported the project long enough to know developing it is an incremental process (that you have to have a bar, before you can add any kind of cyborg bartender, for example) who maybe don't have enough regular hours or cash to set up similar channels, to give alternate viewpoints (I'm a cleantech research engineer) also lose out - possibly lose their game - while these guys have a little circle jerk.

They're just calling it as they see it.
No. they all watch each other's videos mate. Refer to each other's streams, I've heard them.
Have 'round table' discussions where it's just them. lol
This is very true. But as mentioned above, content creators jumping on the hype bandwagon and pouring petrol on the fire isn't either. If content creators loved the game as much as we're being led to believe, then encouraging their followers to engage in CIVIL criticism rather than focusing on how Frontier are greedily ripping them off (while, as someone said, giving a shoutout to their sponsors, shaking the Patreon tin, and demanding you to like and subscribe) would be more beneficial to all. Surely you can see that it's just not a good situation that the ONLY people who can actually fix the mess are being harassed and threatened?Content creators didn't create this situation. Frontier Developments did. Attacking the messenger is not helpful.![]()
A vast youtuber conspiracy to organise Elite’s downfall Is quite the stretch.
