Elite Dangerous Issue Report - 10/08/2021

Greetings Commanders!

I'd like to introduce you to something new. Below is our first Top 20 Issues table, summarising the highest voted issues on the Issue Tracker. As part of being open and honest about the game's development, we'll be regularly posting updated versions of this table and discussing it on our Supercruise News streams.

Note: the status and planned release of each issue is subject to change as various factors affect the ongoing development schedule.

Top 20 Issues:

  1. Problems With Lighting and Illumination: We're happy to say this is now fixed since Update 6, having spent some time to monitor it afterwards. Any new issues to do with lighting should now be reported on the Issue Tracker as normal.

  2. Degraded Terrain Textures Compared To Horizons: A lot of the work for this went into Update 6, with some finishing touches coming in Update 7.

  3. Tiling Planetary Features: Changing the way planets are generated signifies a huge undertaking, so we're still investigating this.

  4. Low FPS Performance In Odyssey: This work will continue up to the end of the year, with improvements added already in Update 6, we know there is more to do.

  5. Limited Gameplay During Apex Shuttle Rides: Nothing to share at this time.

  6. Game Hangs On Exit Sometimes: Currently under investigation, we'll aim for the next update but it's one of the fixes more likely to end up in a later update.

  7. Invincible Thargoid Heart: We know this is a longstanding issue which has a complex cause. It's still being investigated and hasn't been forgotten. If you would like to contribute some information to this issue and others, please read this post.

  8. Anti-Aliasing Not Working Correctly: Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year.

  9. Joystick Buttons 32+ Not Working: Not started as other issues are prioritised.

  10. Expose Telemetry Data For Motion Simulators: We're currently discussing this internally, and may decide against it. If it does go ahead, it won't be before Update 8.

  11. NHSS Signals In Odyssey That Should Contain Interceptor Are Empty: Appears to be fixed, should arrive in Update 7 pending some further QA testing.

  12. Increased Performance Problems Since Update 5: Some further improvements are coming in Update 7, while general optimisation will be ongoing. The coming change won't be a fix for everyone, but will resolve some of the drops players are seeing.

  13. Supercruise Stuck At '0' Time Remaining With Tunnel Forming: Currently under investigation.

  14. Fleet Carrier Modules And Finances Not Calculated Towards Assets: In progress, slated for Update 7.

  15. NPC Fighter Kills In Conflict Zones Count As Progression: Currently under investigation.

  16. Support Missions Have Been Culled: Fix should be incoming in Update 7.

  17. A Previously Present Codex Entry Is Now Missing: Under investigation. Currently considered lower priority.

  18. System & Galaxy Map Misalignment In Widescreen Aspect Ratios: In progress, unlikely for Update 7.

  19. Stolen Tritium Cannot Be Donated Into A Fleet Carrier's Fuel Depot: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

  20. Missions and Rewards Not Sharing With The Team: Fixed, should arrive in Update 7.

This is a reflection of the current scenario, and due to the ever-evolving nature of game development, the planned release for these fixes is subject to change. Let us know what you think of this report below!

See you in the black Commanders,

Brilliant. Not just the number of fixes, but the publishing of the list, mainly. That's what we (I) want. Information. Thank you and the team.

Okay, you want kidding me right. ... Where is the issue? not the Vote button, jesus.
Are you asking why the issue wasn’t found when you typed it into the search box?

The problem you had there was the word “in” 😅

Issue Tracker is very finicky regarding search text - “Low FPS performance” will bring up the Issue, “Low FPS performance in” will not, and neither will “Low Performance Odyssey” or “Low FPS Update” 🤷‍♂️

Are the CMs going to change the name to SuperIssues News and call out the new Top 20 each time in the style of Top of the Pops?

"And this week in at Number 14..."
"Up 5 places this week is..."

Those of us who can still be arsed to wrestle with the Issue Tracker can see what the top voted issues are, there is a filter for that.

What happened to the news about the rework/replacement for the Issue Tracker? All this is window dressing unless we get a bug tracker that is fit for purpose. Expecting your customers to solicit votes from the community to support the Issue they have posted gets old very fast. I did that with the SLF pilot comms and after all that effort the Issue is marked as FIXED when it clearly isn't. It is better than after Update 5, but better than isn't fixed. How difficult is it to revert code that was only changed for Update 5, or is the version control system also unfit for purpose? And who decides an issue is fixed anyway, surely it should be the people who raise the issue and/or confirm it?

CMs I am not denigrating your obvious efforts to try and bring order to this chaos; I very much doubt anybody in the community envies your position at the moment. Your positivity in these difficult times is welcome and I'm sure you would like more effective tools just as much as we would.

How can the lighting issue be fixed? It's pitch black on planet most of the time on the dark side. Nice to have planet tech but if you cannot see it what is the point? Also the night vision is way too dark. I just don't understand how can they qualify this as fixed in any way! .... I always landing against a black backdrop so save the performance and ditch any planet rendering all together :D
Don't land on the dark side of a planet? What else did you expect

Am I the only person who thinks it's ridiculous to limit our "issue voting" to 6 votes in a game with nigh unlimited bugs? Seriously is the thought process behind this; if we have less votes available, they'll be required to do less work? It's asinine at the very least
There's going to be a top 20 bugs whether we get one vote, six, or a hundred each. How many votes we get just determines whether the top-voted bug has 100 votes or 10,000 votes, which doesn't really matter.

Giving people a fairly small number of votes each probably helps to spread the distribution out between "bugs that people want fixed because obviously they're bugs and should be fixed" and "bugs that are seriously annoying lots of people" - too few votes or too many votes each would just lead to most of the distribution being too flat. Given how many more Confirmed bugs there are now compared with in Horizons, a further increase to 10 or even 15 votes each would make sense, perhaps.

Outside the last month or so their policy has been mostly to ignore the vote count entirely, so it mattered even less then how many we got, of course. And I expect Update 7 will also include a bunch of fixes for bugs outside the top 20, so it's perhaps still more important for communication rather than actual progress.

Totally support this initiative (highlighting the top N issues), it's really informative and hopefully highlights the way the issue tracker works and will encourage players to be more engaged with it. I would actually love to see a longer list (maybe the top 100), not that I would expect you to go through it in detail in the news stream or even to necessarily have status or planned release details on those beyond the top 10 but it would still be interesting to see the longer list (and I imagine it's trivial for you to produce that). Having tried quite hard in the past to get particular issues confirmed and voted on at all (for example the ship audio cutting out after safe drop at a station or ship pips getting reset to 2-2-2 after recalling from the SRV) I'm quite surprised at the shear number of votes some of these more obscure top 10 have received (e.g. the telemetry issue) but I guess I have to accept the numbers (I trust FD try hard to ensure it's not possible to spam these votes ... and I apologise for the implied accusation if there really are hundreds of players genuinely bothered by the lack of motion simulator telemetry for example).

Okay, you telling me the: "Low FPS Performance In Odyssey" on the Zac list is the: "Low FPS performance following Odyssey update" on the issue tracker? ... the posts in the issue are more related to "increased performance problems since update 5".

@Zac Cocken is that correct? Would be nice to take the exactly same name from the issue tracker for your list. Otherwise we can not be sure to vote for the relevant issue with 563 upvotes.

Seeing as Issue #31046 has been Acknowledged by the Devs (the green tick) and has a full pyramid of votes, and all the other similar issues in your screenshot are marked Invalid/Expired/Duplicated/Confirming - I’m going to guess “yes” and that Zac changed “following” to “in” for some reason 😁

Guessing and knowing. Guessing is no basis for discussion for me here, just waste of time. Fourth post from me now because you "guess" but don´t know.

btw. if you program like that, no wonder that the program don´t work.

Sure okay 🤷‍♂️

Good luck finding the “real” issue report 👍

Edit: as a pointer, searching just “FPS” in Issue Tracker will bring up 19 pages of issues - you can then narrow your search by selecting “Confirmed” - which will reduce the issues down to two reports, then you can take a stab at which one you think might be Zac’s 👍

First off Well Done Fdev.. The new communication and giving us a form to show what you are working on is a great move. Much much better than in the past so thank you for listening and improving how you handle things. (y)

Secondly if you are listening the lighting is by no means fixed, it's halfway there. There were some big improvements but there is still something wrong with the way the blacks are crushed and the cockpits of some ships like the Krait are waayyyy too bright. I CANNOT see the space dust as clearly in FA off anymore outside stations particularly which is damn awkward. Please return it to how it used to be, this is important for actual gameplay as orienting yourself is hard without visual reference. Please if you are going to mark it as fixed continue to tweak it to balance it right because right now it is NOT fixed.

Thankyou.

I think you should find a chill button. performance is not just some issue, it is a problem and we ALLLL know about it and they ALLLL know about it. What position it is in doesn't really matter because it is a MAJOR issue and complains will never stop until they improve performance.

There is this current on which plagues the PS5. Usually in busy systems with players or lots of fleet carrier movement. This doesn't affect PS4.

@sallymorganmoore was going to have a look but, I think she is swamped with other stuff.

It will be a real shame of this comes over with Odyssey as it appears it's a PS5 only issue.

Ello Stormy. Thanks for nudging on this. Honestly, big ticket issues still remaining on console are still stuck on our foreheads. I'm always keeping in mind to continue pushing console crash ticket updates forward so that, when we do hit the ability to, we can tackle those for you with the most up to date and accurate info.

Fleet carrier menu no longer shows stock levels. Also it's not displaying ship availability in the shipyard correctly. Also the nameplate is showing up black even though I've selected white. The lighting on the nameplate on the fleet carriers doesn't look right either. I've had issues in the tracker for a long time now about these bugs. I really hope they get addressed soon. Managing the FC is just not as fun.

Side note, we should have some sort of interior on the FC with APEX services. The current outpost interior would be perfect, you could just re-use most of that. Wouldn't it be great to see the FC jump from a view overlooking the deck?

Please add your input to this issue tracker I started if you think it relevant - it is just short of "confirming" status (I don't know why since there are 10 in addition to my initial report) you might push it into an active state. Thanks:
