Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 7 Notes

Hi Dev's, @sallymorganmoore
Firstly thank you for all your efforts in the bug fixing.

This one for me is a major issue:
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42858

Efficient weapons have lost the damage increase values.
Overcharged weapons damage increase numbers are not accurate & seems to be either nerfed or have a miscalculation.
The experimental affect oversized is current only granting a 0.3% increase instead of a 3% increase.
Please will you sort this out as soon as possible.
Thank you.

I've had a long career in the Telecom industry, where critical software has to be spot on or there are huge consequences. It's not so much that there are issues, it's that the reasons for the continuing issues has not been corrected (imho). That is a management issue.

Sally is giving it her all, so that is commendable, I don't envy her task :)
Indeed.
The main issue I see is that most of the problems with update 7 could be found by simply playing the game normally in single player for a day by a single person.
PLEASE @Sally get the message to Frontier management that they can’t continue to release untested software.
If they dare to say it WAS tested they will just make things worse.

Whoever that Sally account is that keeps getting pinged is going to be mighty confused if they ever log back in again.

Is that working in Horizons as well or only in Ody?
Ody only... but they kindly made the absolute nerf of most of the combat weapons also apply to everything in Horizons too.

So in short combat and all that relies on it in the game is thoroughly rodgered right now until it's fixed, as you can imagine!

@Bottom Hat future stupfhz here I think keep it bookmarked.

@sallymorganmoore Sorry I hate to tag you but have you been informed that on foot npc appear to be easier to kill than before the update?

I have flagged this user for potential future collection, thank you mate ;)

Yo, it's getting a bit frosty around these parts, Commanders.
Noticing a few feathers ruffling a bit at the moment. Totally appreciate we're not in a glorious land where we want to be yet and tempers can fray at any point, but let's try and stay on target with making things right in as sensible a way possible, without bouncing off anyones nerves.

TOTALLY fine to have frustrations, just remember not to make it personal or keep digging in holes that are going to cause any feelings of targeted mischief.

Here for you.

Do you ever come across any spare stuphz Sally?

I'm open to negotiations, perhaps along the lines of trading stuphz for some pictures of Phil Mitchell exhaling and going red?

Just putting it out there whilst I'm here ;)

It contunues to amaze me how with every update to Odyssey (Elite Dangerous in general, really) some bugs get fixed while others are added - or are they not bugs, but "features". In random order of appearance here are the ones I observed during a 2hour session the night of the launch:
1. Random stutters while entering stations and docking
2. No progress bars for interdiction - this happens both while one interdicts someone else, or while one is interdicted
3. After killing an NPC vessel in space (after being interdicted) the materials from the defeated ships did spawn, but stayed stationary, all packed together in a neat diamond. Moreover, but I cannot fully confirm this, it was a quick thing while scooping up the materials (no room for limpets in my ship at the time) I had the impression that materials could fly right through the ship. Even hitting them did not move them from the point where they had spawned.
4. While on planet surfaces in an SRV nearing a POI (settlement, hidden cache, irregular markers, you-name-it) target materials in the SRV HUD display as if they were several meters above ground while in fact they are not...

... those are the three main things I observed.... What is going on?!?
Cheers (so to speak)

Oh, and another for the list:

Now when mining all of the RAW materials spawn inside the asteroid. (at least in Pristine Metallic rings - have not tested other ring types)

Simply UNBELIEVABLE.....

This^. I game on a GT 1030 which plays Horizons well. Odyssey plays like a geriatric snail in a 100m dash across treacle and each patch I wait in vain for meaningful improvement. Some patches were, well, pants, while others offered a ray of optimism in a sky full of disappointment.

When FD said Odyssey would run on the same gear as Horizons, does that still hold true? What about console owners? GPU availability / wife compliance of buying a new GPU is a real issue right now and while the RTX 39000000 GT Overlord crowd can bulldoze it out I can't.

Unless these issues are managed now FD are storing up a massive PR and monetary nightmare later on- we are talking MacOS Offlinegate VR X bugged PA dps % if people wait and wait, only to be told its no longer being considered.

My old (now replaced) PC played Horizons beautifully at high settings. Very early in Alpha I raised an issue that I couldn't get out of the station - it seemed to be related to Alpha needing a lot more memory and crashing my 8GB system (usually when it tried to load the system map). I couldn't take part in Alpha because of this, and the "full" release had pretty much the same problem (which I reported again). I lost patience (love) at that time and had around a 2 month break from the game.

So, long way of saying, that the original statement of Odyssey running on same game was false. The memory requirements (min/recommended) on the Steam page for ED are now 6GB/8GB and for Odyssey 8GB/12GB. Obviously an acknowledged difference now, but I couldn't play at all until I got my new system (and then didn't feel like it for a while...).

I am surprised they haven't brought down the servers to issue an immediate hotfix yet.
This bug has really affected ship combat in a bad way.
I'm not. It's not all that big a deal (ie, won't cause all that much harm in the long run) so long as it's fixed soon (which it will be, I imagine it's at the top of the list of priorities (can't think of anything else that came up in this thread that even comes close).
