Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Agree or not, that's how the game works. It's a peer-to-peer network, so everyone has to be online to see each other and/or ships. If anyone is offline, they are not in the game, period.
To tired to look at, at the moment. It's 1.48am. Let me look tomorrow ...... zzzzz

Sorry boys. Haven't checked the last half dozen post. Just too tired. 1.52am as I write this . zzzzzzzz I'll look tomorrow.

However ........................... I have arrived safely at System Khaka and docked at the Qureshi Enterprise.
I'm fully refueled, repair servicing completed, and planning to visit the ship sale yard tomorrow.
All I can say is: "WELL DONE CMDR WOMBAT. YOU KILLED 'EM SON !!!!!" And thanks boys. Have a drink on me!! :D

I was at a planetary settlement today and a Hauler landed in front of me.

So I went over and took a picture. This one looked like it had been a few places.

Here's how the Hauler looks when you're standing near it (that's me in the space suit). I always liked that little ship.

Sorry. That was a very poor choice of words: "agree". 😖
How could I agree or disagree when I don't understand what it's all about!
I really meant "understand".

2) Nope. As soon as CMDR Codger logs off he disappears from the game. He CAN just log off at any time, using the Exit To Main Menu or Exit To Desktop actions, which take 15 seconds. After that, he's just sitting at his computer, and is not in the game.
" Hmmmm ....... we need to talk about this. Not sure I understand. And it should make a good discussion. ............. "

It's an important word change and should lead to a better discussion.
Why ?
Because I will be questioning responses to my scenarios NOT by NOT agreeing, but more by NOT understanding.

Back to bed ......still very tired .... but this issue was worrying me ...... ;)

Oh my God! Looks big. You must think that funny when you compare it with your ..... Cruiser was it ? That must be a shot taken from within Odyssey ? Don't think I can do that in Horizon ... 🤔
Maybe Odyssey does have a future with me if that is the case ...... 🤔

I've made my second "small" change to what you see below. It's in regard to what we more commenly now call "Systems", rather than "solar systems".
Wombat1940 said:
I've made a couple of "small" changes to the above, which, although not helping with naming clarification, better reflect current practice. The changes are shown in red below.

There is one Universe that includes everything.

The Universe is full of billions, trillions of Galaxies.
Our own Galaxy is called the Milky Way (sometimes just called The Galaxy).

Each Galaxy is made up of billions of solar systems (Some times just called Systems).
Our own solar system is called the Solar System (denoted by the capitalization to distinguish it from other solar systems) and is part of the Milk Way.

Each solar system is made up of a Star or in some cases a number of Stars, together with numerous Planets.
Our own Solar System (sometimes also called Sol) has one Star (which we call the Sun or Sol) together with eight Planets. One of these Planets is what we call the Earth.

In the case of ED, there is just one Galaxy. That Galaxy being the Milky Way which includes our Solar System with the Sun and the Earth.

Again, any errors ......... please advise ASAP. :p
And now a third change. 😖 Sorry ........ need to tighten it, or maybe even "better clarify things". For me anyway ..... ;) I know, I know, I will be criticized for being pedantic, but I can't help it ! :D
Again, input from others would be most welcome. (y)

Hence, the terms I intend to use are:

Universe
Galaxies
Milky Way (our Galaxy)
Systems
Solar System (our System)
Stars
Sun or Sol (our Star)
Planets
Earth (our Planet)

Back again. That's is really a beautiful Shot!!!
Looks so bloody real !!! Not only has the Hauler showing a shadow, so are you !!!!
Image if it was real !!! If that was really you standing there. 😲
Here I go again: me and my bloody imagination .........

I've mentioned the passenger missions before where Robigo Mines Outpost has an unending supply of criminal masterminds who want to see a tourist beacon in the Sothis system. When you have allied reputation status with all the factions there so you get offered the best passenger missions, and you have a Python with no shield installed and a load of passenger cabins, you can make around 80 million credits per hour going backwards and forwards. You can make 30 million rising to 40 million an hour with allied reputation doing the same trip with an ASP X full of passenger cabins. This is how you can get from ASP X to Krait Phantom money very quickly.
(y)
I suppose you could do it with a DBX for less credits per hour, but it's probably best to do some exploration and sell some exploration data from that ship until you can get an ASP X.
This is for much later - since I'm worried about "input overload" for you 😉
[Edit: removed 1st video link as it was talking about Anaconda - can be done in cheaper ships]
In this video - two ships are compared for the Robigo run. Watch the route for the Python from the Robigo Mines outpost that can also be done with an ASP X which does not need any engineering to get the jump range needed to do this easily:

I've combined both responses: FG's and Codger's. You are both saming the same thing and agreeing with each other and my suggestions are wrong. So I have a further two questions. Thanks
Wombat said: (1) You and I were flying together, in our own ships, chasing the same enemy, that enemy being CMDR Codger, (importantly, not an NPC).
I log out of ED, leaving you on your own chasing CMDR Codger and you destroy him.
Hence, would he be there when I log in to ED again as I would expect him to be ?
Or would you have to advise me you'd defeated him?
Remember he's not an NPC.

What Codger said: 1) Nope. CMDR Codger could have gone anywhere after being destroyed. He does not disappear when you log off, cuz he's not a NPC.
What FG said: What Codger wrote is correct.
After a player is destroyed, they rebuy their ship and then they are back and they are the same CMDR. They are persistent while in the game, and as Codger says, they can go anywhere they choose. I can tell you I destroyed him, but it would not be material as they will be back, and they may or may not be where you last saw them. Just like you they can go wherever they want whenever they want.
Right. So Codger would be back. Anywhere, any place. Does that means, back here to fight again ....... and again ...... and again ...... ? 🤔

What Wombat said: (2) If CMDR Codger want's to escape, away from both of us, I assume he can't simply just log out.
This I assume is because his craft, piloted by God knows who, will still be flying in ED, trying to evade you and me.
Is this the case ?
What Codger said: 2) Nope. As soon as CMDR Codger logs off he disappears from the game. He CAN just log off at any time, using the Exit To Main Menu or Exit To Desktop actions, which take 15 seconds. After that, he's just sitting at his computer, and is not in the game.
What FG said: No, a player can log off whenever they wish (there's a 15 second wait time if you are in combat) at which point they are removed from the game until they log back in. The player and their ship are gone, the ship isn't still flying around piloted by an NPC.
So he could save himself. He and his ship just disappear from the "game". He could come back again in a week's time, to the same place but everything moved on. You're gone, I'm gone. Sounds shockingly .......... "archadish". Absolutely unreal ..... 😖 Am I right ?

Please look at my joint response in post #575.

I've checked in the shipyard and all it's got is Sidewinders. 😖
Have they sold out of Haulers while I've been getting to the Station ?
Have they never had them and my information wrong ?
What's going on !
Is the shipyard you have got to definitely in the Qureshi Enterprise station?
If I was in the bubble right now I'd pop over and take a look.
Inara and EDDB both think the following ships are available:
Adder
Asp Scout
Cobra MK IV
Cobra Mk. III
Diamondback Explorer
Diamondback Scout
Eagle Mk. II
Hauler
Keelback
Sidewinder Mk. I
Type-6 Transporter
Type-7 Transporter
Type-9 Heavy
Viper MK IV
Viper Mk III
As mentioned earlier EDDB/Inara are not guaranteed to be accurate. It relies on commanders reporting information to be updated in the database, but I'm surprised all of the above ships would be missing.
Is it possible you haven't quite found your way around the shipyard interface to get to ships for sale, and your not just seeing your ships available at the station which is just your Sidewinder?
If you're sure there are no ships for sale here, I have two suggestions:
  1. Try Inara to find a nearby station: https://inara.cz/nearest/#tab_galaxysearchoutfitting
    or EDDB: https://eddb.io/station?s=12&m=965,1271&i=1&r=10681&j=0
If necessary travel between more than one station to get the exact design. I've just checked these for Hauler, 2A Frameshift Drive and 2B Fuel Scoop, other Core Internal modules should be D rated to get best jump range and you also need the Detailed Surface Scanner to map planets
  2. Ray Gateway station in Diaguandri https://eddb.io/station/17272 definitely has every ship you are interested in buying except the Krait Phantom at 10% discount and a wide range of modules. It is my home base in the bubble. It is also 171ly from your current position - so a challenge to get to in your current Sidewinder.

Thanks for the reply.
I will just recheck the so-called Shipyard here, just to make sure.
And I'm not opposed to another journey in my Sidewinder PROVIDING there is a successful outcome this time.

However, others must be doing similar searches, and I assume they are being successful.
Maybe I need to refine my search technics since it would be impractical to keep having to run back to you to find something. ;)

See the Shipyard tab below which should be selected and the left / right arrows to change between the ships for sale.
This picture is taken from a youtube video where the guy has changed his colour scheme to cyan. Personally I stick with the orange colour scheme.
Note that if you really wanted to keep your Sidewinder and transfer it to a different station in future without flying it there yourself, use the SHIP TRANSFER tab when at the destination station you want to move your ship to, pay a fee and the transfer begins. It will be cheap and take minutes to transfer a Sidewinder to somewhere else in the bubble.
If I wanted to transfer my Anaconda 22,000ly to Colonia, it would cost me well over 100 million credits and take over 60 hours....

Slightly going off topic.....

I know you are going to buy a hauler, but before you do, do realise that each ship has a different cockpit/bridge.

Some give you a great view, like the T9, others not so good, like the adder.

Take a look at these before you decide to buy any ship.
Thanks for the video clips. Quite comprehensive ! I'm not too concerned about the Hauler's cockpit layout. The Hauler is only a stepping stone towards something better. ;)
