Does Elite development ends in 2024?

As far as i'm aware, Seasons was a concept only for Horizons and they fulfilled that already by the end of 2018, then it was dropped, not to be picked up by Odyssey
You are telling us FDev had the idea using the term Season only within the context of EDH? They changed their obviously not working model and time schedule during the development of EDH. But it was very obviously not planned to launch later DLC in a different way, as your post implies. The way Beyond (with the addition to Mining for example) was released rebuts your theory.
If we are precise, FDev failed their first Season pass concept, as they could not deliver their content on time (it took more than twice as long overall). The usage of the word "already" in your post, is pure sarcasm in this context.

As with almost all ED related releases, 2.4 also was far from finished at launch and that time even officially mentioned by Ed Lewis. So it is tough to argue, they fullfilled their obligation at that point in time.

Well some players consider Beyond to be part of Horizons (I disagree but hey) so you weren´t too wrong there 😋
The reason being, they were mostly fixing existing things during that the time. The did not deliver content worthy of being sold, without resorting to microtransactions.

Edit: and people still complain about lack of updates / content when we got 3 years of free updates (2018-2020) 😒
I don't see anybody complain in this thread regarding the lack of updates. Also I'd argue, that a good part of those updates were fixing essential parts of ED and thus being the utmost basis for any live service game. Additionally I'd argue, that most people rather wanted to have a completey developed EDH season and Beyond being a fully fleshed out DLC worthy of spending money on.

Nope, not at all...
I'm quite content with how i experienced ED since i started in 2018. And what i got for the money i spent

And i wished i had started ED from the beginning, but... oh well... 🤷‍♂️

Good for you, but that does not make the past of ED or this matter irrelevant.

Some aspects of the game were way better back then. The progression was tougher but ultimately more involving, creating more interesting choices.

Frontier have had plenty of opportunity to clarify or reiterate over the years.

It is good to see much improved customer communication since the Odd launch, an open & honest approach to issues is far more confidence inspiring than silence and 'trust me'.

However 6 months after launch and approaching a year after Odyssey's planned release there is still no word on long term plans, what other major features are planned.

But short term I am looking forward to Carrier interiors (and particularly being able to sell bio data on a carrier, despite this not being stated), and still enjoy playing.

Yes, there was. It was said during Lavecon, there was a thread about it here but that got deleted or lost during forum restructuring - the link is now dead.
Yeah, that was quite a few years ago. I doubt that the ten year plan is even still in place. The first delay was that Horizon's took two years to put in not the original year they thought and Beyond diverted that even further. Odyssey has taken more than three years to get into this state (mostly due to covid) and I got the impression that took a lot longer to put together than they were expecting.

However, Elite: Dangerous being an Online game, fdev can rework it as often as they like, as long as it still makes money. Look at EVE, they've rewritten the client two or three times in the last ten years and that doesn't look like it's stopping.

If Odyssey doesn't make money, then this is the game we're stuck with. Otherwise we can expect more DLC in the future. Personally I hope we'll get (and in this order) ;-
  1. On-foot VR
  2. Some kind of player settlement building/management
  3. Ship Interiors.
  4. More land able planet types.
  5. More Aliens.

Right, i was mixing Horizons (2.x) a payed_once update but delivered in Seasons, with Beyond (3.x) a series of free updates.

Since none of us could get up and walk around space stations, planets, land on atmospheres but there was still content added, I can see why anyone (including myself) could consider "Beyond" to be "Horizons with benefits."

Time advances and in December 2024 it will be 10 years since the launch, there are still many promises to fulfill that were announced on the Kickstarter. There is really not much time left for that date and looking at the panorama of the content that they released between 2019 and 2020, I do not see time to add new content or an obligation to continue developing elite beyond the end of 2024 or I will continue to see the time that Odyssey is consuming.
Having read the Odessey reviews I'm afraid I will not be buying it. Having watched some game play on the tube it seems to be a FPS or planet surveying. The graphics look great which is what the game designers are good at and the physics is also good. However I think it would be a good idea if you could build things on your chosen planet. Other popular games such as Minecraft and Space Engineers are about building structures and creating a home/base or civilisation. Personally I don't play this game for the pu pu as the action during a battle is not anything fantastic and there are much better SiFi space combat games if that's what you are into. In my opinion Design Team concentrate on the exploration, commerce and politics......And let players build stuff on planets. ;)

Lifetime Expansion Pass = they still owe me two more paid for DLC otherwise I want my £120 back.

Didn't you gamble when buying a LEP? All you 'bought' was whatever content was released during the lifetime of the game, not a guarantee that you would receive content to an equivalent or better value to the amount you paid.

No. The game will run for another 10 years and I'll have my two more DLCs and fdev will have lots of Arx purchases and many paint jobs purchased over these coming years.

Post launch LEP = £120
a DLC = £30
4 x £30 = £120
People on here can't do maths (even I'm not good at it tbh). I have a hard enough time trying to explain how the LEP isn't bringing in any more income to people on here, despite the fact the LEP hasn't been on sale in years.
