Arf's Holiday Message

Awesome cant wait to see whats coming :) also glad to see the station popping fixed! Anychance of a livery lighting fix too? Or is it my potato laptop that needs updating?!! Seems too dark to see anything when buying paintjobs!!
Livery for SRVs is terrible when selecting paint jobs. Last week I bought a "black" pj for my SRV, get it out of the ship on a planet and the darn thing is white... 🤷‍♂️

Mhhhmm, the community is feature-wise split into parts. One part (2/3), that is actively delivered new content every month - and one part (1/3) that does not even get an information about it's future.

There is no need to drive a wedge (omnomnomnom potato wedges!!!). The devide is there and we beg to cure the separation of beloved child and unwanted stepchild. I as a console player do want to empty my wallet into FDevs bag and participate in the new content, that is created and delievered every month. Is this so hard to understand?

I really had hopes for the end-of-year-review to give us at least a glimpse of hope. I can not understand, why this information strategy can be seen as a good move FDev internally. This could even be seen by a blind man, that not even mentioning US is such a missed chance and may result in even more salt among the console players.

Knock off the baiting comments please, and trying to drive a wedge between the community.

Literally took a break from my ED break to ask how it is you know that this wedge isn't what FDev wants?

Considering their lack of news the last few months for consoles... and now, how they're furthering the development of ED for PC while continuing to not talk about consoles...

It's pretty clear they want the wedge. Not sure what news you have that changes that.

(omnomnomnom wedges!!!)
Curse you. Now I want seasoned wedges and maybe a chicken filet roll for lunch. I'M SUPPOSED TO BE ON A DIET!!!

To be fair, I wouldn't necessarily call the PC folks a beloved child, more like a "customer who have paid for something and what... seven months on STILL has yet to be delivered"

I think that's the difference people lose sight of. Console players are (unfortunately) complaining about something they don't have yet. PC players are (unfortunately) complaining about something they do have, and have paid for, and as such the company has a legal obligation to make it right. There is also the not so small issue that Odyssey, in its current state even after 8 updates and numerous hotfixes and micropatches, WILL NOT PASS MUSTER by Microsoft or Sony and therefore even if Frontier announced "fine, we'll give you Odyssey in its current state" the manufacturers would not allow it (and it likely wouldn't run even if they somehow did).

I fully understand and sympathize with console owners wanting Odyssey now, but they've made the decision/announcement to delay its development and told everyone repeatedly that there'll only be news about it when there's news to deliver, which will be after the PC version is properly sorted (and actually at that point capable to be ported to console). It's the official stance, and I don't think that the people shouting DAILY (not directed at you, you wedge-craving person, you!) at community folks (who aren't actually the ones making the decisions or involved in the actual development) are going to accomplish anything beyond frustrating themselves and the rest of the console community by whipping them into a lather.

Thanks for the update Arthur.

Unfortunately for them, they are the interface to the higher-ups..... the "front of house" if you will. So we have absolutely every right to express our frustrations to them, and the higher-ups should be using them to feed back.

That's their raison d'être !!

Agreed. My point is the silence for console players, that is harmful. Honesty would be more helpful.
I would have no problem waiting another 6 months, if we were included in the communication. And this would not cost a cent.... penny.... what ever is used to pay in the UK...

In the hypothetical case that in January something about consoles is announced, it would not have been better to quote a word today, to calm the console players and that the ball was getting big until January or that people discussed a cancellation to prepare them mentally and then I ask myself a question: Does retaining the information ±50 days change something than ±50 days later?

I'm personally quite curious if Update 10 will be a moment when game state on PCs will be good enough and allow Frontier feel more comfortable and share more about further overall plans (consoles included) for this game. Imo Update 8 (and 8.1) was finally a game state where game performance improved and stabilised well enough. Just this alone however speak volumes about technical state of the game (Odyssey DLC) in May and how much effort was needed to get things working at least decent ... I wish to all CMs and Fdevs nice holidays and hope that next year will be for this game and whole community much better as this one.

.... I really look forward for missions updates and FCs interiors. Things like this makes playing of ED much more pleasing.

But that's the thing. They have been honest. The announcement was that console development was on hold until the PC side was sorted out. After that, there'll be news but until then there's nothing to share. As a player on the PC side, I can definitely say that the PC side is still far from sorted out. So as such, they have nothing to say. Still, there are a few console players who ask several times a week demanding an update, when there just isn't one to give.

I mean, I'm not sure it'd be productive or helpful if they just said every day "Odyssey for consoles remains on hold" (And they have done that repeatedly in streams)

(As to the folks who are upset that Odyssey is getting new features, and taking that as a sign that Frontier has "given up", its worth remembering that the team working on the game has different departments - and complaining that some employees are working on paintjobs or mission development is like walking into a garage and demanding why one of the salesmen or the receptionist isn't working on fixing a car)

Have to say I'm pretty dispondant from that end of year message not even a slight hint of anything to do with console, and I'm not just talking about Odyssey though I am presuming Fleet Carrier Interiors and the New Srv are not for console. I mean is it too much to even mention the word anymore, Just over three months ago it was asked if anything was being thought of to "keep the console community engaged" whilst all this Odyssey stuff was going on. it was relayed that yes there was but not presently as "not at a stage to do this effectively" evidently the end of the year (well almost) is also not an appropriate point to do so.
Really do love this game and I get the "Focus" is needed but does that mean that consoles no longer even get mentioned except for the occasional nod on stream to say we haven't forgotten about you apparently this includes feedback about bug fixes.
Recently I considered leaving the Elite community but was talked out of it by someone who was convinced we would get an end of year mention after six months, but yeah message is loud, clear and has been received.......Communication / Involvement wanted (Again not just Odyssey) get a pc.

Don't doubt everybody is at full chat at the moment trying to get things done just feel something could be done for the console community even if its just a gesture.

Anyways gotta finish on a festive note hope all of Fdev have a great Xmas and New Year with a few crackers along the way, have a good one @Arthur Tolmie @sallymorganmoore @Bruce G @Zac Cocken and all others o7 🎄
What would you consider to be a gesture? What exactly do you want to be announced about consoles that isn't already public knowledge? If they say on stream "there is nothing to share at this moment" it literally means there is nothing to share. The only thing that is going to satisfy the console community would be a release date, and we all know how that went last time ...

...lotta people posting about console news, but how bout that thermal conduit nerf? Can we please get more info on that?
