I was looking out for them last time I was exploring. Next month is exploration month, so maybe I will make it into a rock of ubiquity huntYou will now. It can't be unseen. It is the Rock of Ubiquity.
The money still has to be collected - as I said I'm saving for a new ship. Right now, I'm about 12 mil.Depends on the money - and the engineering.
The Vulture is a very nice heavy fighter, but only starts to shine when you have unlocked a few engineers for thrusters and powerplant. Especially the powerplant - without engineering, the Vulture will always be limited by its poower plant.
The Federal Assault Ship (FAS) can be a very capable fighter, too. The old more or less default fighter progression was Viper -> Vulture -> FAS -> FdL (-> Python -> Corvette)
I intend to expand my courier business from strictly data to specialized cargo hauls also.

I guess I didn't make it entirely clear in my last post, but I thought of a certain lline of ships that have the prefix "Federal" in common.
The class 3 weapon with class 4 power plant issue is easily solved by putting a class 3 multi cannon in it. Low power requirement and Tod the blaster can over charge it and add incendury rounds effect to take out shields. I guess you are taking about the DBX. Engineering will also solve every thing. I have run a large efficient engineered beam laser on a DBX. For now stick with multi cannons and get Tod to engineer them. Beam lasers only really work with engineering. Also unlock Felicity Farseer as she does grade 1 power plant as well as FSD engineering. Most ship builds only need grade 1 power plant engineering. The money still has to be collected - as I said I'm saving for a new ship. Right now, I'm about 12 mil.
Enineering-wise, all I have unlocked so far are Todd "the Blaster" and Elvira, er... (I always keep forgetting and mixing her last name up with a real life person...) You know, the one up in Khun. Powerplant upgrades are the next on my bucket list, as I have a ship that has one large and two smaller hardpoints. But installing a tier 3 weapon into that point makes the use of any other equipment nearly impossible if you want to use it in a fight... Really, who thought it would be a good idea to combine a tier 3 weapon slot with a tier 4 powerplant?

I know. I could hop over to one of the systems that have them in stock and have a look, but I would love to hear the opinions of more experienced commanders than I am.
For the intended role I would need space for one at least 32-unit cargo rack. And enough power to run an a-grade shield generator and at least two a-grade shield boosters alongside of its weapons.

Also the Federal ships apart from needing federal navy rank are heavy and have poor jump range. An Asp Explorer is the ideal exploration utility ship with great jump range (especially with that Engineered FSD V1) that fits 32t and a 6a fuel scoop plus space for collector limpets. Or use a 5A or 5B fuel scoop and 64t cargo space. It's perfect for materials collection and can get you started with passenger cabins at Robigo Mines until you have credits for a Python. It's also a fantastic smaller core miner and Ok for laser mining. The money still has to be collected - as I said I'm saving for a new ship. Right now, I'm about 12 mil.

That was my first explorer. I used it to unlock all the Guardian tech and do my first rounds of collecting raw materials and such. It's a great ship. Best cockpit view in the game bar none.An Asp Explorer is the ideal exploration utility ship with great jump range
I still prefer "Codger's Rock"... It is the Rock of Ubiquity.
I still prefer "Codger's Rock"![]()
As long as you are not prone to Spoonerisms.![]()
They all require Federal ranks to purchase of course. The Gunship and Dropship don’t suit how I fly my ships to the extent that I don’t use them at all, the Assault Ship works better for me but still not enough to get considered for much use. If you can master how to fly them all three should do well against NPCs, you generally don’t hear much about them in other rolls.I am saving for another ship. I still am in the Suthe sytem, which means that there are some stations nearby that have the Federal line of ships availabe, are they any good for a more combat orientated build (for fighting NPCs, still)?

Good thing I didn't call it that, eh?I still prefer "Codger's Rock"![]()
Back when it came out the Chieftain was claimed to be an equivalent to the Federal Assault Ship. I find it a much more lively ship handling wise than the Dropship. So upgrade seems right.New to forum
I'm flying in a Federal Dropship at the moment; bought the game a week or so after release, played for a while, then left it, another brief spell in 2019, and back to it now (Horizons) after a couple of years away and thoroughly enjoying it. Currently having fun doing increasingly risky courier and delivery runs, with plenty of trading on the side, and the odd bit of salvage too. In short - playing like I used to on Frontier back in the day!
Tempted to upgrade(?) to a Chieftan, but not sure how much it would cost to get it up to the capacity (80 Cargo) of my Dropship.
