Reasons why I really want the American Black Bear (personally, it is the NA animal I would have picked above all others, even in DLCs and the base game):
I like having a few species, (i.e. red fox, fallow deer, llama) to try to get different coat variations. I would like to see grey wolves fixed to have more colors.
Other species with good color variation: Asian golden cat, Geoffrey's spider monkey, lar gibbon
This doesn't mean that I don't want animals from SA or other places. If there were 100 more habitat animals, I would take ~32 from SA (with collared peccary, white tailed deer, and 9 banded armadillo overlapping with NA), ~25 from Africa (with a few also in the Middle East), ~24 from Eurasia (with wolverine and musk ox overlapping with NA), ~11 from Oceania, ~5 from oceans, and 3 exclusive to NA (American Black Bear, a bird - probably Turkey, and the bighorn sheep - maybe)
- Local: Favorite local animal
- Nostalgia: Favorite Zoo Tycoon 1 animal (besides the unicorn)
- Different Game Niche: Could work as a cheap early game bear
- NA final representation: I agree that it is the most obvious missing NA species
- It is the big apex predator for most the east coast, where most of the US people live (mountain lions only pass through occasionally from a tiny spot in FL)
- I want all of the bears eventually
- Fun: They come in a lot of colors:
